Why does season 3 of True Detective get so much hate on Cinemaphile?
It was a huge step up from the disappointment of season 2 and was actually pretty comparable to season 1 which might have been one of the greatest series season of any show ever. The two leads were fantastic I think, the villians were great, support cast was solid but I think the main issue was focusing on the one detectives wife way too much.
What do you guys think?
>Dem kids...
Salakanthinkabou
It was not better than 2 at all. But it's not bad
It was great but I don't like how both seasons 1 & 3 had happy endings, 3 seemed like it was building towards something darker.
You didn't pay attention.
I did, very closely. Was that not Julie Purcell at the end?
Happy ending? The dementia literally consumes what's left of him, leaving him forever in a haze.
It consumed most of the audience as well. Both a metaphor for the populace at large.
I don't get what you mean, is this some subtle Biden joke or something?
No.
he will never remember that he solved the case and it will consume him until he doesn't have any memories at all, not ultra depressing but much sadder than S1
Season One had terrible writing but was saved by the acting and directing. Season Two was so terrible and up its own ass that nothing could have saved it. Season Three was dialed back but didn't have what people actually liked about the first season.
Inb4 Sarah Gadon schizo
It's bizarre I see his posts on like /misc/ Cinemaphile and /x/ now, is it really just 1 person?
Yes. Don't forget to use the filter list
oh wow thanks
Oh the supporting cast was solid? Is that all you have to say? You know exactly what you've posted here and I know who you are, you're a sick little man. Get a grip.
It was good. Last live watch experience with Cinemaphile I had too now that I think about it.
>the disappointment of season 2
Are you this much of a midwit irl or just in the internet? Do mundane daily tasks like showering and brushing your teeth frustrate and enrage you?
The real reason for this thread is for that one edit that zooms into the black guy's eye having a flashback of Rust shooting the gun from season 1, please someone post it it was incredibly kino.
Season 2 was way better than 3, you fricking midwit
>I'm not gonna say it... but I'm THINKING it
Season 3 is well regarded as the best season, due in large part to the spectacular performance of Canadian actress Sarah Gadon.
I actually did like her in this but her character wasn't developed enough and the season might have been better if they focused more on her investigation into season 1, it almost felt like a throwaway arc instead of what could have been the connective tissue of the season.
They treated her like a schizo /misc/chud for trying to connect the Purcell case to what happened in Louisiana, when it wasn't connected at all. Old black man even hints at this when he chides her for projecting and making assumptions.
What I'm saying is the writers fricked up and should have made them connected, it's exactly what everyone has been wanting since 2014. But no, they had to frick it all up and subvert expectations and pull all the punches back to make a potentially 9/10 show into a 5/10 show.
She has less than 20 minutes of screen time, so now it's obvious that you're trolling and should be permanently banned.
Sarah Gadon's character is central to the plot and shes the only character in the entire series to reference another season.
No. She could have been any journalist type character, Ali's wife should have been the one interviewing him for her sequel book.
no his wife shouldn't have ever been on the show she ruined it for me, every single scene she was in was just terrible
You have bad taste in women.
she should have been the villain, then the season would have actually been good.
A good ending could have saved this season.
DEM KIDZ
The entire season is a waste of time. They waste your time until the end, when it's revealed that no actual murder took place, the kid just slipped on some rock and the girl went on to live with a random rich b***h. Season 2 was ultra kino, unlike this shit. The three timelines also was pointless and moronic.
>first season had two timelines? well, we'll have THREE
i dont get these threads because there's only one season of this show, right?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Detective_(season_2)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Detective_(season_3)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Detective_(season_4)
Oh god there’s a season 4. Oh dear god the trailer looks god awful full of an angry Black person mutt diversity hire
I don't know Jodie Foster investigating murders in Alaska sounds kind of kino.
It looked halfway decent until the angry black mutt with face piercings showed up and her only lines were almost verbatim “I hate you whitey” and “my bet card don’t work.”
What, you're not looking forward to a strong woman of colour beating up all the bad white guys?
RESPECT BIPOC
RESPECT WOMEN
RESPECT WMMA
Precedent would suggest that this will not happen, only woman who ever killed anyone was in True Detective S2 and she was
>visibly scared shitless
>broke down crying after she actually did it
Please agitate in a different thread, thanks, we're trying to talk about a show.
yeh Jodie Foster is fine by me, but it seems insane getting a no name mutt, if you absolutely must do dual females get someone people know, I don't know Jasmine Brown from Yellowjacket or something, I went to HS with her
yeah and pizza is not involved. Ill probably still watch it since my mom liked True but, im sure it will suck.
No, you're thinking of Heroes. Damn that show had potential.
no pretty sure i'm thinking of true detective. definitely only had one season
Correct. Season 1 and done. Season 2 and 3 are Yidsney Wars sequel shit tier.
For me, it was because the formula became obvious. You have 8 episodes, tensions building for the first 3 culminating with an action scene at the end of ep 4, then it turns out it was a red herring/not the whole story. Tension starts building again, the gang gets back together to solve the case culminating in the last ep. All 3 seasons did this but at least S2 was crazy enough to keep you interested.
I think I tried watching it but there was too many black people
>Why does season 3 of True Detective get so much hate on Cinemaphile?
racism
Is it really racist to not like black people?
Like, is it speciesist to not like snakes?
Yes. Snakes, like all reptiles, mind their own business 99.9% of the time and are only ever a problem if we are improperly brought into human spaces. Hating snakes is like hating someone who you've never met.
>we
>THE BUTLER DID IT
I don’t really watch anything with homies anymore, not so desperate for lame modern media. You can miss out on a show or movie, it’s pure whatever. Was considering S4 for Jodie until I saw the EP and writer/showrunner, uh oh I’m passing again.
The wife was a red herring and ultimately ended up taking up way too much screentime for nothing.
The reason S3 was disliked on Cinemaphile was because we solved the entire show when BTS footage came out after episode 3. If we were all reasonably surprised at the end, it would have been good. But we had to sit through 5 episodes of filler to reach a conclusion that we knew 5 weeks earlier.
the point of the TD series was the character development of the two main protags. The case wasn't. Even the season 1 mystery was solved way before the reveal.
Well I wasn't here when S1 came out, I just know S3 was a big blue ball that was even more deflated because the BTS spoiled it, while S1 was kino and I certainly hadn't noticed King
oh shit I guess the true detectives were the friends we made along the way
Never I shall Give Goods for Etereal Reasons
Cinemaphile isn’t ready to take the Dorffpill
hes literally the reason some people rate S3 so highly, full of ultra masculine based chud scenes
was hoping he'd get an emmy nod but they cucked both TD3 and Twin Peaks the Return
I’ve been Dorffpilled homie
because there is no actual killer nor a cult and the entire show is basically a red herring
dumping old TD memes acquired here I haven't had a reason to post in many years
wtf i bought the dvd and the cover wasnt half as kino as this
>AMAZING PERFORM, FULL-FRONTAL ACTION
This WILL sell our show.
it's woke propaganda forcing juicy BBCs down the throats of us God-fearing, red-blooded real Americans
Mutt's law strikes again
he didn't say that
a lot of nsfw daddario gifs don't wanna get banned
I'm just here to pinch your wife's nipples marty...
I'm just here to cum in 10 seconds marty
i'm just here to take the kids to school Marty
I'm just here to buttfrick your wife and both your daughters, Marty
is that sweet dee?
Who was he shooting, if not God?
Truly an ancient meme
ehh I used to say the same thing you said OP cause I like S3 but I recently rewatched S2 and it truly is noir kino, by the time of the last 3 episodes its nonstop surreal kino, like when Velcoro gets into the car to give the dude info and he looks over and the dudes been killed, or the gay guy killing all those former military, but it def started slow
Sarah Gadon kino
palefu
> was actually pretty comparable to season 1
the secret mystery about his daughter being one of the cult's victims reinvigorated my excitement in the mysteries, like realizing Blair Witch Project is secretly about the guys leading her in circles in the woods before they rape and murder her
>Blair Witch Project is secretly about the guys leading her in circles in the woods before they rape and murder her
That's moronic. Why the frick would they spend several days leading her around when really they could take her out to a secluded place in 1 or half a day?
murderers especially in movies are always doing contrived absurd types of toying with their victims, or otherwise planning that seems impractical, pretty dumb criticism
That doesn’t really explain the shit that happens to them
I miss Vaughn posting post-s2, should have taken screenshots back then
I wish I could Vaughn post. I don't have the brain for it but that's what makes it so enchanting.
thought I saved the webm from season 3 that shows the detectives gearing up in the car in the 3 different timelines
too bad Rust turned out to be a straw atheist and he ended up taking everything back
He literally had a near death experience in which he believed that he experienced something resembling an afterlife
Was that why the villian guy in the maze kept calling him a priest? That part always confused me, like he kept taunting 'come die with me little priest' or something.
No, his near death experience was in the coma. He kept calling him a priest because they were a cult that was mainlining the secret truth to the universe. The Yella Kang almost escaped the disc in the loop. The time for his ascension was at hand
marty's lawn
heh
overacting
frick it I'm rewatching starting now it's been way too long
just finished the pilot for the first time since 2014, god damn it's good tv
Reminder the true patrician knows all 3 seasons of true detective are fantastic television. And the elevated patrician knows 2>1=3
based true patrician
yeah I almost avoided s3 due to Black person fatigue but glad I tuned it, it was a pleasant surprise
Mahershala Ali, at least in TD, is one of those black actors that deserve to be in shows, he reminds me of Sydney Potier
they had good actors in s3, thats why you didnt mind
i watched all of the wire and liked most of the black characters (besides brother mouzone for example, but that was the character he was supposed to play) and even had favourites like bodie and lester but these new shows cast awful actors for the sake of diversity and at least i immediately lose interest
one of the worst castings in a good movie was "the protagonist" (which wasnt the protagonist) in tenet, which got out-acted so fricking hard by gay vampire robert pattinson of all people
Pattinson is based, but I also didn't have an issue with the hot sauce guy
Pattinson is indeed based. He played Sarah Gadon's husband in a movie once.
Nothing impressive. I play Sarah's husband in my fantasies every day
pfft everyone does that
it really is crazy how Tenet was dead on arrival because of a nepotism casting, who knows it may have been as good as inception if the actor was better
>builds up a huge mystery/conspiracy theory
>lol actually it's nothing
I don’t think anything they make can have the long term staying power of an entire season comprised of
>everyone in power from religious institutions to the government to your local sheriff is aware of pedophilic death cults and does nothing about it
I wonder why
I'd like to believe that's the reason for season threes story ending like it did. S1 was a little too in the nose for hollyjews taste, so they dialed it back and pulled the ol switcheroo with le one eyed black man chaperone. That's why s2 was so based, they didn't pull any punches or give you any happy ending. It's a massive web of corruption and they'll kill whoever they have to to maintain it.
There’s nowhere you can go after season 1 that’ll hit that hard other than just killing the cast. They basically did both things they could to punch the viewer in the mouth. Season 1 has its happy ending for the main leads but there’s still a worldwide death cult, season 2 there’s just no hope out there in that shithole state.
>season 1 directly attacks pedo elite
>season 2 is an example of Commiefornia being a corrupt, polluted shithole (which it is)
>season 3 shows a brother and a white man working together and he explicitly refutes the "le white man bad le racism" narrative of the roastie reporter
Literally the least woke show in ages.
Dem keeds mane
I watched all 3 seasons and never understood the plot so here is my rating of the seasons in terms of how well I enjoyed the directing, acting and soundtrack and overall vibe :
2 > 1 > 3
was this any good?
Is this real? Why would they make this??
they're degenerate drug addicts with no morals, and TD was fricking huge at the time
>TD was huge at the time
The Sopranos was big when it aired, why isn't there a porn parody for it? This such a bizarre choice to parody. Making a porno over something like Indiana Jones or marvel superhero shit is reasonable and understandable but True Detective?? That's just a weird choice. All I can assume is that one of the porn producers was a big fan and decided"Hey we should make a porno of this mostly male lead TV series". At least they didn't make it a gay porno
>That's just a weird choice
Please tell me the porno had a girl that looked like her
A porno was made just because of Daddario's breasts and ass
what ass?
giwtwm
>The Sopranos was big when it aired, why isn't there a porn parody for it?
There were numurous
Only good thing about that whole season was Sarah Gadon
From the dusty mesa
I swear it felt like everyone copied this style of superimposed images after this show aired.
It was boring and it felt pointless after you finished watching it. I liked Stephen Dorff though.
Season 2 was by far the best. It's the only one worth rewatching and VV was amazing in it
> the disappointment of season 2
Filtered. Season 2 was good. Caspere knew this.
Check
season two or three should've just been an old man henderson adaptation
What was this all about? She's way too old to be a hallucination of his daughter
He had some stuff on his mind. Starts with a c and ends with a y
Took me like 5 rewatches to notice Rust smelling the booze, and then connect it to him later smelling Daddario on Marty and the comment about his "fricking nose"
>season 1 literally bringing lovecraftian mythos to the mainstream, only to back off at the very end
I will never forgive HBO for this. They could have had Rust accidentally open a portal to the elder gods or some shit.
>lovecraftian mythos
moron
The Yellow King is a lovecraftian creation. They could've pulled a Berserk-style ending in which things become supernatural in the last episode. Instead, the main villain just happens to be into lovecraftian literature. This makes the whole Yellow King plot a red herring, which is disappointing because one of the most memorable scenes from S1 was Rust freaking out over his interrogation subject mentioning the Yellow King.
>The Yellow King is a lovecraftian creation.
it's from robert w. chambers and predates anything lovecraft wrote.
There's no such thing as Chambersian, so the Yellow King is Lovecraftian because Lovecraft references him.
Something supernatural might have been going on
It's deliberately ambiguous you fricking illiterate child
Fricking stupid manchild
From the dusty man's son
I liked it too, but S4 looks like a fanfic shit
Anyone else confuse Fargo post season 2 with true detective post season 1? I could’ve sworn true detective had the two brothers played by the same character and I thought Chris rock was in season 3 Fargo. Wonder if it’s just me
Season 3 was too similar to Season 1, clearly a corrective move in response to how plebs didn't like Season 2, even though Season 2 is hilarious and based.
Also
>Black person protagonist
Deduct at least 3 points.
You fricker are memeing into giving a chance to season 2.
Point proven, this ESL motherfricker just didn't get it.
>What do you guys think?
You already know what we think. Your first sentence had that information.
just popping into this thread to say i believed all the CinemaphileBlack folk posting that season 2 was ACTUALLY THE BEST SEASON and i watched it last week and it was fricking terrible
contrarian morons
not watching season 3 or 4 now either, that sucked so much balls
season 1 was good but season 1 of fargo was better
>What do you guys think?
Rewatched all of it recently after listening to some Pizzolato interviews and enjoyed the shit out of S3.
I think I didn't quite get the weight of Hayes finding the girl but forgetting her the first time I watched it. It's not that I didn't understand it, but it didn't hit me the first time around. The second time, it did.
It was a kino season over all, the only major problem I had was that the contrived story of what happened to the missing girl felt more contrived than it needed to be by the fact that it was just verbally told to us by characters (the black cyclops story dump episode). It could have done with a flashback episode instead.
It's still amazing television, and it's like the best "same character at different ages" gimmick I've seen on a screen.
Really looking forward to S4, even though the trailers didn't really grip me.
For me it’s season 2. Collin Farrell and gay cop were kino.
