is putting muh in front of something supposed to make it seem shallow. in your mind can you just btfo all of devs by saying "muh determinism". that feels like a horribly reductive way to view anything

It's more relevant than ever. One of the producers has spoken out about how the film reflects the Israeli denial of the occupation of Palestine.

      >the film reflects the Israeli denial of the occupation of Palestine
this is something i hoped to see regularly discussed around this movie and yet this post is the first time ive heard this connection discussed. the problem isnt that this is auschwitz movie #7002 but that the a24 crowd cant intellectualize the work.

        >Jonathan Glazer on his holocaust film The Zone of Interest: ‘This is not about the past, it’s about now’
        >I spoke to Glazer a week later when the Israeli assault on Gaza that, as I write, has claimed 15,000 lives, was in its early stages. It is, I suggest, a heightened moment in which to release the film. He nods. “Yes, and it’s weighing on all of us. The sickening thing about this film is it’s timely and it’s always going to be timely until we can somehow evolve out of this cycle of violence that we perpetuate as human beings. And when will that happen? Not in our lifetime. Right now, it seems to be reversing and I’m mindful of that, too, in terms of the film and its complexity.”

Holy shit. The balls on that guy. Good for him. It really is amazing hiw Israel is so self-unaware. Or maybe just does boy give a shit about it and how they appear.
Right now we have Israel exterminating a population of people after they locked them in a ghetto for years and treated them like secobd class citizens. The parallels to what the israelites faced in the ghettos of Germany and Poland should be obvious. And while not as systematic and concentrated as the camps, the bombings of civilian camps that were supposed to be safe zones are also a form of extermination.

Glazer makes Haneke look like a petulant child in terms of his formalist approach to cinema, it's so good.

I saw it in theaters in a very highly israeli area of the US, and the few other normies there did not enjoy it at all.

the fact that you are asking this question in such a manner is a reason movies like that exist. Your lack of self awareness is both hilarious and stunning

Anyone read the book? I read its synopsis and doesn't seem very similar apart from the setting.
