he's showcased some massive weirdos this season. in the first ep, there was the guy preparing for the end of the world by living in an abandoned missile silo. plus there were the dudes who lived in RVs near raw sewage leaks in new york. just bleak stuff. wilson is putting exceptionally bizarre fringe people on display now so it is more striking than before when it was just like a sad dude going to cancun to party.
the best part was his family talking about how the silo had no windows lmao, like was this guy actually planning on moving his whole ass family into a silo and living there full time instead of just using it as a prepper bunker situation?
yeah that added to the bleakness. somehow this dude thought his family would be okay with living there. his wife was nice enough to entertain wilson on camera without shit talking her husband.
john wilson went to burning man, filmed a bunch of stuff over the course of a week. when he wanted to use the footage for the show, he found out some other group had secured exclusive filming rights for that specific Burning Man he went to. so he was legally not allowed to use any of his footage anywhere. also, that other group was behind a documentary about NXIVM, the sex cult that had screwed john wilson at another point in his life.
Damn, I totally missed that news. That fricking blows, especially because those Nxivm c**ts working with HBO are fricking cowardly scumbags that deserve as much jail time Alison Mack. Guess that's why he did that cult ep in the second season.
The good thing about the burning man shit is that we got to meet Stinky Steve. But I guess that really could have been filmed at any time but they needed to fill the episode
in the thread the other night i mentioned wanting to show a girl this show, but that she hates Fielder or any sort of "cringe humor".
The first episode went well with Covering your Furniture. She thought it was funny and that I needed the foreskin pulley. She was really fricking quiet during the scaffolding episode. I panicked realizing that I was forcing her to watch a doc about scaffolding.
it really is great and showed you a different side of NYC if you don't live there. the subject matter is a tough sell for someone who is already hestitant of the show though
honestly surprised he had the balls to show graphic toilet shit for the first ep of the season, when normally you'd think he'd try to invite the audience in.
i don't think he gives a frick anymore. it's the last season and Max barely advertised for it. Just speculation from me but the whole Burning Man thing might have pissed him off
I still find the pilot to be the worst episode. Still decent enough, but leans too much on the "cringe humor", like saying awkward things to Apple workers or intentionally doing long silences for interviews
I did think it kinda sucked that this thing is literally made of stairs but you can't go up it anymore because people couldn't stop throwing themselves off it
That said, people throw themselves off bridges all the time and its not like they close bridges down, what gives with this thing?
bridges are pretty important in a practical sense for a city, so it's hard to shut those down. the vessel structure is new and being known as a suicide hot spot sucks for all the realtors and rich companies that put money into the area. so they shut it down cause it's bad PR. they will probably put up better anti suicide features before reopening. probably plexiglass or some shit.
they were happening so frequently and the only precaution they took (people couldn't enter it alone) failed. they already thought about closing it forever to the public and the last update it had was they were thinking about putting nets down over a year ago. been closed the entire time
It was funny at first, nitpicking the little things about new york. But like you said its really exposing how one of the "greatest" city is just an expensive 3rd world country
His old vimeo explains it, his style had a more negative tone to it. Idk why he chose to return to it on his show though, still a good watch regardless

I'm going to watch the first episode now I've never heard of this show or confused it with some show about a guy who goes on busses or fishes or something

honestly so far this season it seems like Wilson actually fricking hates New York. it seems like a shit hole, more so than other seasons
Who doesn't hate New York
Sunkcost homosexuals
i like visiting nyc. i wouldnt live there though.

kino show in the nathan fielder universe. wish it got more attention but then again this is a niche show for autists like me.

The scaffolding episode is my favorite piece of Cinemaphile holy shit

The cut to gay porn was hilarious

>Burning Man thing
Qrd?
he's more existential than usual, it also feels a bit uneven and awkward at times
it's similar to the later episodes of surveillance camera man
he ultimately becomes too self-aware
How do you mean? I think the quality is consistent, just that it’s somewhat more cynical about New York or just things in general
i only watched the whole series last month and i feel like the new episodes haven't been too different. quality is still high

It's not fair, first the kinoplex and now this

Starting season 2 now

he only still lives in the shithole for the show, right? he has to be able to afford a better place than the one he always shows
What was the episode where he started hanging out with some guy and possibly went out on a boat with him but they ended up being extremely racist?
Link? I love hearing racism, especially on the Black folk and israelites.
i don't have a link, i literally said i was looking for it you moron
I'm going to watch the first episode now I've never heard of this show or confused it with some show about a guy who goes on busses or fishes or something
first episode is probably my least favorite episode, but still good. i love the one about covering your furniture.
these people were insane and i felt bad for their baby
because he documents life and life is getting more depressing
i always wondered if those written documents of everything he did every day were real. if so i just feel like everyone living in nyc is a little crazy
Is this better than Nathan For You?
No. It's mildy amusing and his voice is grating.
They both use purposely annoying voices with their characters.
