Since the second of British films the British TV series industry has boomed in international sales and true kino has been produced in a weekly basis like Luther, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Death in Paradise, Life on Mars, Beyond Paradise, Inside Number 9, Black Mirror, Ghosts and a shit ton of easily adaptable quiz show and reality TV formats.
As far as the film industry goes most Disney/Marvel films and other high budget films are filmed in the UK using UK talent, so it makes its money in a risk free manner.
