Wow, I'm surprised that not even South Park has managed to get in this list given the popularity boost it received last year.

because the tv writers are doing this for them
    >real response (IMO)
It's not that people aren't vibing with their fave toons anymore, it's just that the game's evolved. We're talking the rise of memes and shitposting, spicy fan art and porn art, and the wild world of fan theories. Like, who's got time to pen a novel when you're dropping sick animation edits or cooking up a fire podcast or a video essay? It's a diverse creative buffet out there and fan fiction got the shortest stick.

but hey everyone can write fanfic so why not be the change ig

As evident with your chart on average over 75% of fanfic creations revolve around Male on Male pairings. And western animation doesn't offer much m/m setup in comparison to TV, books, and anime.

Only 3 western animated properties made this list.
The Owl House for lesbian ships
Rise of TMNT for gay ships
    South Park for gay ships

It really goes to show how important cute boys and hot guys are for fandom growth. This is the true reason why western animation is dying. Pandering to straight coomers and lesbian autists in their early 30s simply does not work.

Also, notice how most of these ships involve white or (east) asian characters.

The people who did that needed fanfiction because it's all they got. Now some artists are drawing entire porn comics that could be sold separately by the original creators with how close they get go the artstyle.

IMO there's often a tradeoff between fanfiction and fanart. Lots of things that get a lot of one get way less of the other. It's probably becuase Some media (books, live action stuff) just has much less interesting designs to make fanart of, so more interest falls on the fanfiction.

Good Omens has a lot of fanart, stop talking out of your ass

Wrong, there's plenty of fandoms that are rich in both in fanfiction and fanart (Good Omens, Genshit, BNHA, South Park, etc). The main criteria is whether the cast has cute boys/men and if they're shippable; basically if a fandom has a good number of females within it.

Meanwhile, men are less prone to write fanfiction hence why some big fandoms like Touhou are lacking in this compartment.

only in the west. the touhou doujin market is huge in japan

Correct, I was mostly speaking about western fandoms. Also, as far as I know, most Touhou doujinshi are manga.

I think its more telling that the western touhou fandom are mostly secondaries, at least from my experience. they only know the characters from derivative works like the old niconico vids. The ones that do play the game don't even pay attention to the story, so it would make sense that fanfic is low in numbers

Most fanfic writers are girls who want to write forbidden gay fantasies while most modern cartoons want to show "realistic" "stunning" gay relationships with not drama that are super boring.

Because most of the people working in the industry are fanfic gays and the shit they write either is on the same level or close so no one sees a point.

Because what is there to fanfiction anymore, when hollywood does it for you, hammering their IP's to death with constant reinvention and iteration?

Because the West sucks, and if a fanwork gets popular (Bacon and Hobbes is probably the most successful fanwork I can think of off the top of my head), people will end up shitting on it because it's not exactly like the original show/comic
