They are both totally different in every way, cast, acting, production design, music, sound, the only similarity is that both are based in the same book.
actual Dune fans were more mad about Villanueve changing Liet Kynes from male to female than Charri being brown. There was no point in them changing a really good character from male to female other than appeasement. Villanueve is a cuck who peaked with Sicario
Has anyone seen the new one yet? Did they portray any lore stuff like navigators and interstellar travel, or it's just people talking in the corridors and fighting in a desert?
This really is how I felt about it as an actual fan of the books. They managed to take an exotic and otherworldly story and only include the most surface elements. And that’s just the story and world building, not to even mention the inexcusably awful casting choices.
I turned it off after the scene where the worm attacks the sandcrawler. It’s a great couple pages in the book. The DUNC scene was 20 minutes long for no reason. Boring. Also it was ugly.
I know the blue-bristles-posters meme about it, but the movie seriously needed more color. Especially the desert scenes. The lame excuse about how realistic Martian deserts actually look flat and gray I not acceptable.
I only watched it like 10 times so far so I can't give a true opinion. Especially not until the full trilogy is out and I can incorporate the directors full vision into my understanding of the films.
DUNE (1984). I playfully tease her that she could play Chani or Jessica. We lean against each other throughout the film. Entwining fingers. Make out during the credits.
It was bland and forgettable. Not egregiously bad in any way, but just completely middle of the road in all aspects. I saw it in IMAX and have had no desire to watch it again. I'll see the sequel just as a means to kill time on a Saturday, but it looks to be more of the same, only now with a bit more generic le epic battle scenes that we all know what to expect from.
It was so boring it made me seriously question the sheer amount of hype the books have gotten because if they're anything like the film, they're absolute shit.
It's better if you've already read the book and can imagine the exposition playing out with each scene. They should do that from now on. Visual audio books.
Because it's a part 1 of a really good story that forgot that part 1 movies need to stand on their own merit, even if they require a part 2 to finish off all plot threads
I am not kidding when I say that Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 is an objectively better movie just by being able to split a book in half and still being able to start and finish important plot threads
Quite honestly, if a book is impossible to fit into a single movie, however long that movie might be, then maybe it shouldn't be adapted into a movie
Because it would be impossible to market, that's literally the only reason
Don't get me wrong, I'd kill for a TRUE 9 hour DUNE adaptation, but it's never getting made
My issue is that there are ways where they could split the DUNE book into different parts and make each stand on their own while also requiring each other to finish off the story, the problem is that the director gave 0 fricks and just decided making Part 1 the way it is
I legit can't understand the brain of the average DUNC fan who claimed it was film of the year, part 1 is just ass by itself
Would have loved to see Jodoroskwis Dune get made. the jodo documentary was great to watch, link is not the docu but an anons music video with art from Dune concept.
Because it's just alright. As soon as I saw what they did to the Baron I knew that the designs decisions weren't going to be anywhere near the level of color and weirdness that an adaptation needs.
I'm not even pissed about Chani, other than the fact Zendaya has only one character she ever acts as. Kynes could have been a black guy and that would have made more sense than making him a woman.
I know the 1984 movie has it's glaring flaws but it's a visual treat and interesting to watch and follow.
Lifeless, boring, monochrome, no character development, terrible casting. Do you want me to continue?
>Lifeless
meaningless buzzword
>boring
ok zoomer
>monochrome
meaning buzzword
didn't read the rest of your post.
i forgot everything about it and have no interest in the sequel, its like it never happened a total nothing of a film.
Contrarian anti-modern Hollywood anons can't formulate their own opinions.
>Why won't you agree with my subjective opinion? I don't understand
Was there really anything different from the original besides updated effects?
They are both totally different in every way, cast, acting, production design, music, sound, the only similarity is that both are based in the same book.
>It's the same story
That was my point. I'm interested in the 2nd part though. It just felt like there wasn't much new from the original.
>the original
there's no such thing.
the 1984 is an adaptation
2021 is an adaption
of the original NOVEL
are you new to Cinemaphile? they don't like it because there's a black woman playing a role they think should be played by a white woman. that's all
actual Dune fans were more mad about Villanueve changing Liet Kynes from male to female than Charri being brown. There was no point in them changing a really good character from male to female other than appeasement. Villanueve is a cuck who peaked with Sicario

They made Alia a navigator
Princess Irulan
Chani
Desert power
Is not. It's like an adaptation of Dune wiki page
This really is how I felt about it as an actual fan of the books. They managed to take an exotic and otherworldly story and only include the most surface elements. And that’s just the story and world building, not to even mention the inexcusably awful casting choices.
And they took the worst fricking director for the job
Already forgot about it.

It is good.
I simply could have been so much better.
And Zendaya is ugly.
The novel remains undefeated.
shit star wars copy with overrated actors and shit cgi
I only watched it like 10 times so far so I can't give a true opinion. Especially not until the full trilogy is out and I can incorporate the directors full vision into my understanding of the films.
It's possibly the ugliest movie I've seen.
I wanted to like it. It was shit. Absolute utter shit.
Also, that Zendaya appeared for like a total of 5 minutes and had maybe 4 lines in the movie. Why is she a main credit?
>It's fall 1996 and teenage Rebecca Ferguson is coming over to hang out
What are you watching, playing or listening to?
Probably Ace of Base.
DUNE (1984). I playfully tease her that she could play Chani or Jessica. We lean against each other throughout the film. Entwining fingers. Make out during the credits.
i haven't been paid enough to say it's good.
that's why.
gibbe money and i'll say how much i loved it.
It was bland and forgettable. Not egregiously bad in any way, but just completely middle of the road in all aspects. I saw it in IMAX and have had no desire to watch it again. Can they pull it off?
Will he be black thanks to "Chani"?
Or some america-muslim?
The coward won't even depict a creepy child version of abomination Alia.
it was more coherent than lynch dune, but that's not saying much.
Because it's a part 1 of a really good story that forgot that part 1 movies need to stand on their own merit, even if they require a part 2 to finish off all plot threads

Why should a movie be 90min-3 hrs? I'd be happy with a well made, 9 hr dune. Just do it right. No meme actors.
Because it would be impossible to market, that's literally the only reason

i liked 80s dune and also liked modern dune.
I thought it was just okay. The same way I feel about most of his dishonest films. They're not bad, but they're far from great.
I still hate that they cast the ugliest people possible to star in it.
Because it's just alright. As soon as I saw what they did to the Baron I knew that the designs decisions weren't going to be anywhere near the level of color and weirdness that an adaptation needs.
