I agree with this zoomer. I remember when he died and there was all that massive hype so I looked him up and it was just deadpan ironic non-jokes. Nothing different than you'd find from an average Cinemaphile post except my boomery.

I notice this more and more everyday. The broccoli cut is really just an attempt to give white kids more black looking hair. Zoomers talk in ebonics. Zoomers value basketball more than other sports. Zoomers only listen to music by black artists. The future looks fricking grim

I didn’t think Norm was funny until I was in my 30’s and as I get older he gets funnier. It’s sort of how when you’re young Chris Farley is funny but when you’re older you realize David Spade was the funny one and past that you’ll understand that neither one of them was funny.

yea it's sad that because of a societal taboo on acknowledging that some media is smarter than others these zoomers actually think that jokes they don't understand, like literally have no clue what is even intended to be humorous about them, is bad because they're not laughing.
It's like calling Shakespeare bad because a 6 yr old can't read it, although thats actually happening now too.

this is the exact same thing I was talking about with The Graduate in a thread a few days ago. There actually is a level of comedy that requires intelligence to understand, Norm and The Graduate both have subtle absurdist humor where the joke is the character's performance but since their isn't a traditional punch line morons and zoomers who are near synonymous don't understand the joke.
It's not that they don't find it funny, as we see here they literally do not understand what the joke is supposed to be, because they're moronic.

      Anonymous

Maybe I'll try the Graduate, I've only heard the name. I love the subtle stuff. I don't have an example off that top of my head but it'll be you'll notice a certain item in a refrigerator or a piece of clothing and it hits you like omg seriously, lmao. But no one says anything about it, just there for you to notice.

I'm thinking of the Big Lebowski all the sudden. That's more the interactions but the small parts, how the different characters offer The Dude a drink and stuff kill me.

This is true. I tried to show Napoleon Dynamite to my zoomer gf and she said it was too slow and boring. She likes zany comedies that are over-the-top like Norbit, but the humor in Napoleon Dynamite is things like the props, set design, and how off-kilter all the characters behave. Of course people loved it for the one-liners, but a lot of the charm and humor of the movie comes from the absurd characters who are played completely straight.

        >too slow and boring.
        literally true back in 2004

It is kind of a slow movie since not much really happens, but it's still funny and comfy. I don't think zoomers really understand the premise of a slice-of-life comedy with clean humor like Napoleon Dynamite, because those types of movies aren't really made anymore. Back in 2004, it was a very popular movie among all demographics. I remember watching Napoleon Dynamite as a teenager along with Gen Xers and Boomers and everybody loving it.

When I was younger I didn't appreciate Norm's very simple approach to comedy. As an adult, I get it and it's a shame he's gone. Not the funniest of comedians but he had a way about him. Very relaxed, comfortable in his own skin and unafraid to say what he thought was funny, regardless if the room would think it funny or not. I think that's why he's a "comic's comic" as they put it. Other comics hem and haw over their routines or what joke is going to get laughs with the crowd. Norm just kind of wings it and says what he observes and by knowing what buttons to press to get someone going without coming off as bitter, angry or anything other than genuine or stupid (typically by acting like an idiot.)

Only guy I've ever listened to that could make a joke about 9/11 and actually get a laugh from normies because of his delivery.

Its absurdism playing with the conventions of the joke format. Take the kojak joke for instance. The punchline she was a hooker by itself is not funny. However the deadly serious set up that borders on mindless rambling, the venue, and finally the over the top delivery make such a juvenile gag kill.
Or on his podcast when the setup is want to hear a joke, then he blurts out 9/11. The awkwardness of it combined with his demeanor make it work. I dont think it takes a high iq to get it, but saying norm wasnt funny is pretty funny in itself.
