How is it so hard just to google some shit instead of making a whole uninformed thread?

What did it get? A bunch of TNMT cameos and that Usagi in space thing?

IMO it's not very marketable as a kids' show. It's often serious in tone, it has sword fights, it doesn't have skateboards and pizza
    TMNT was easier to sanitize

You could just do a show like 2003 TMNT with Usagi and just never have him directly kill anybody but have villains die in creative ways you get away with on a kids program.

Its hard to do that when Usagi has one of the highest bodycoutns in comics.

Usagi kills like 30 people per issue in open sword fights, you can't bullshit that much death

There's one show on Netflix but it's not the real Usagi.

Doesn't matter, it's still an adaptation. Whether is faithful/good or not is a different subject.

speaking of which, they made this 90s style fake trailer a few years ago about a sci-fi samurai bunny

Why did they made this? seems like quite a lot of effort for some random fake intro.

I said it before and I say it again, Usagi is too gritty, depressing and violent for a kids show and too silly and colorful for an adult show.
Is a show where dead people fall with their tongues out in a comical fashion but also one where everyone suicide is common place.

Is a mostly bloodless story but where realistic suffering is quite common place. So its too crude to be palatable to a kids audience and not bloody or violent enough to attract an adult audience either. Is this weird limbo where it only appeals to a niche audience that is ok with silly animal characters living in realistic feudal japan situations.

actually yeah, Anime gives a chance to a lot of products something like OG dragon ball sound kind of dumb on paper but they gave it a chance and it found success.
But America is different, no executive is going to take seriously a story where the funny bear man commits Sepuku* after disgracing himself. There is prejudice to how a story should be when making shows in America.

Best case scenario, you make a faitful adaptation and people don't go watch it because they where expecting something more like Ninja turtles.

It's in a very weird place. It's too violent to be a kids' movie/show, but it also kinda leans into edutainment at times, which many adults might not be interested in and it also lacks the edge needed to be "truly" adult (though they could add that if they wanted I'm sure).

It's kinda hard to place it's audience for a show/movie.

      TMNT sold toys.

      doesn't sell toys.

Furries give 0 fricks about Usagi Yojimbo and in most cases they don't even know what it is. You should understand that furries literally only care about porn and things that are gonna be very popular (because porn) like Zootopia.

From what I've gathered. Comic shop I went to had none when I asked and said they said it's a big seller. This was when the Usagi Storytime was happening this year and somebody said they sell very well. Could be full of shit but it would make sense since it's still going and publishers all seem to want a piece.

Just a shame I only ever see the Dark Horse Saga serious out in the wild. Their 'Volume 1' is fricking nowhere near the start of the story and starts in just about the worst place it possibly could. You get thrust into a bunch of shit you have no context for and then the TMNT appear. It gives the impression that it's a dumb book for babies.

to be quite honest, last storytime practically doubled the amount of lewd fanart in existence. you can't say there isn't a furry crowd interested in it

No idea, but I've searched for 兎用心棒 as well as the English title and found some ~50 fanarts on Pixiv. I'm going to assume nobody knows about it.

If pic related works then a Usagi cartoon should too.

  16. 11 months ago

Can it work? Sure. Will it work? No, there’s too many idiosyncrasies that would make TV cartoon execs confused and want changes and Stan has too much integrity to let them change his life’s work. It’s why the Netflix series is basically an alternate take, and why he goes over contracts for TMNT adaptations with an eagle eye so he’s not fricked over

Do you suppose some influence from Sergio there? He's a longtime proponent of making sure you own your work, with the begrudging exception of Mad under William M. Gaines.

Possibly but really it's had to imagine it working better for Sakai. Mans got publishers tripping over themselves to put Usagi out

Literally not enough interest. I blame that art style (you either like it or despise it), but salty homied here say I'm crazy for saying that. It's got to be a reasonable almost nobody cares about this. All I know is if the art style is better, I would be all over this series. I didn't like Groo The Wanderer and I don't like this because it looks damn near the same.
