Reva was very well acted, and people just used still shots of her showing emotion to act like the yelled a lot

        Anonymous

Her acting was horrendous and embarrassing to watch tbh. You mentioned that people only used her yelling scenes as examples but even the last scene with her was so bad that it was hard to sympathise with her. But all that didn't bother me as much as her motives. Besides getting impaled by a lightsaber twice which should have killed her, Reva blaming Kenobi for Vader while being Vader's lapdog made no sense whatsoever.

          Anonymous

Reva was a complex character who was dealing with trauma, anger, abandonment, lack of support structures, and probably a host of other emotions to throw into the wienertail. Good writing isn't just characters behaving logically, people aren't always logical. Yes, Reva is outmatched in a fight she wasn't expecting, how is that bad acting? Reva is shown struggling against everything from bias to physical resistance to trauma, Shin literally never struggles, yet Reva is supposed to be the bad character? Please.

I just find her tiresome and ugly, while Shin is engaging and cute. For Kenobi, I watched the fan edit of that cut out most of Reva's scenes. For Ahshoka, I'm only watching scenes of Baylon and Shin.

            >Good writing isn't just characters behaving logically, people aren't always logical.
Then explain her motives. That's right, you can't because the character was a full-blown moron. At the very least when watching this I expected Reva to be so fixated on Kenobi as part of a bigger plan to get revenge against Vader. Whether she was using Kenobi to get closer to Vader or to find out about his weaknesses, I have no clue what they were thinking. In the end she couldn't kill Vader nor Kenobi so she tries to straight up murder an innocent child then they tried to get the audience to feel sorry for her lmao. That's some kinography writing right there. And don't even try to bring up Shin because she's shit too but at least she's not the focus in the show.

You didn't need to mention it, your meaning is clear. Yes, Vader knew her and confirmed as much in the show you didn't even watch before deciding Reva was so awful, and yes it was a betrayal because he was a Jedi and so was she. You're an ass clown.

                Anonymous

I watched the show when it was airing. We're talking about Reva here, not Anakin. Reva was taken in to become an inquisitor, whom she betrayed later on for her own personal reasons. No one betrayed her and Vader only took action once the leader woke up after getting stabbed. It's clear you didn't watch it yourself.

Reva was routinely betrayed, first by Anakin yes when he literally killed the Jedi and also by the Inquisitors who would routinely doubt her or block her attempts to get ahead, and yes this is betrayal if someone was your friend and they were constantly undercutting you would you be okay with it? I doubt it.

First of all, I highly doubt Anakin knew Reva personally as it was never established. I wouldn't call Anakin killing the Jedi a betrayal. The Inquisitors were right to doubt her as she kept fricking up by making rash decisions, after stabbing one of them of course. This also isn't a betrayal. Grow some balls.

The choreography has gotten so fricking abysmal in Star Wars ever since TLJ, maybe as early as TFA. It really is shocking how bad it is. Best choreography in recent times is Anakin fighting Ahsoka, but Anakin outshines Ahsoka so greatly in that regard.

Good point. The appearance of an actor in a role tells us a lot about the character being portrayed. Look at Luke and Han's hair and compare it to Leia's: Leia's hair gives us the impression that she's some kinda fancy space princess, whereas Luke/Han's hair gives us the impression that they're normal people in the setting. Reva's hair gives us the impression that she's a Black person in a galaxy full of space wizards and aliens. Lando's hair seems reasonable in the setting and doesn't detract from the world-building aspects in any way.

You still can't answer the question. Would Darth Vader let one of his sith apprentices take time off from hunting jedi to get her hair did at the beauty salon? Her hairstyle was a very deliberate choice on the part of the showrunners. The only other major named characters in Star Wars to ever have elaborate hairstyles were Leia and Padme, which made sense for them in context.

I wouldn't mind a sith lord being female. If the character is cool, it's fine. If the character sucks, it's not fine.

It's plain and simple. I hate diversity hires and I am fatigued.

Reva caused the story to bend around her making her more important to the plot, rather than simply the side character she was supposed to be. As such all the extra time the viewers spend with Reva is too much, for the show and the actress. It gave her too much time on screen, showing her flaws not only as an actress, but also as a character. Her being black is the primary catalyst for the story bending around her.

Contrast with Shin, actress that can actually act. The story, audience and character knows her place and she doesn't overstay the welcome or bend the plot or story around her just because she is a certain color.

That's the reason people prefer one over the other.

I've been trying to learn how to get people to like certain characters in my own writing, so all of this seems pretty damn obvious to me.

Obi played out like a fan fiction with Reva as one of the main characters.

While Asohka is playing out more like rebels. Where characters don't overstay their welcome. (if you are sulking about Asohka herself, you clearly need to go watch rebels, the post war stoicism literally happens to every Jedi)
