Why has the Shin character gotten such positive responses while Reva was widely attacked despite largely being a much better and more fully realized character with her own agency?
Why has the Shin character gotten such positive responses while Reva was widely attacked despite largely being a much better and more fully realized character with her own agency?
There's characters in this show? Isn't it made by the animated show guy?
You know why. One can actually act.
Reva was very well acted, and people just used still shots of her showing emotion to act like the yelled a lot
Her acting was horrendous and embarrassing to watch tbh. You mentioned that people only used her yelling scenes as examples but even the last scene with her was so bad that it was hard to sympathise with her. But all that didn't bother me as much as her motives. Besides getting impaled by a lightsaber twice which should have killed her, Reva blaming Kenobi for Vader while being Vader's lapdog made no sense whatsoever.
Reva was a complex character who was dealing with trauma, anger, abandonment, lack of support structures, and probably a host of other emotions to throw into the wienertail. Good writing isn't just characters behaving logically, people aren't always logical. Yes, Reva is outmatched in a fight she wasn't expecting, how is that bad acting? Reva is shown struggling against everything from bias to physical resistance to trauma, Shin literally never struggles, yet Reva is supposed to be the bad character? Please.
I just find her tiresome and ugly, while Shin is engaging and cute. For Kenobi, I watched the fan edit of that cut out most of Reva's scenes. For Ahshoka, I'm only watching scenes of Baylon and Shin.
You find her annoying yet you supposedly also didn't watch her scenes, right.
>fan edit of that cut out most of Reva's scenes
Most, not all. (Unfortunately)
>Good writing isn't just characters behaving logically, people aren't always logical.
Then explain her motives. That's right, you can't because the character was a full-blown moron. At the very least when watching this I expected Reva to be so fixated on Kenobi as part of a bigger plan to get revenge against Vader. Whether she was using Kenobi to get closer to Vader or to find out about his weaknesses, I have no clue what they were thinking. In the end she couldn't kill Vader nor Kenobi so she tries to straight up murder an innocent child then they tried to get the audience to feel sorry for her lmao. That's some kinography writing right there. And don't even try to bring up Shin because she's shit too but at least she's not the focus in the show.
>Then explain her motives
Finding the purpose she lost, getting revenge on the man who betrayed her, and overcoming lived trauma
No one betrayed her.
Anakin did, her and her whole adopted family. Did you not even watch the show before b***hing out over black people in Star Wars? Holy frick. It's literally the central plot. Her inquisition betrays her AGAIN
No one mentioned the word "black" you illiterate monkey. And no, Anakin did NOT know her otherwise he would have killed her the second time he saw her you fricking idiot. And you mean she betrayed her family by stabbing the grand inquisitor and disobeying orders for her own half assed revenge plot against Vader?
You didn't need to mention it, your meaning is clear. Yes, Vader knew her and confirmed as much in the show you didn't even watch before deciding Reva was so awful, and yes it was a betrayal because he was a Jedi and so was she. You're an ass clown.
I watched the show when it was airing. We're talking about Reva here, not Anakin. Reva was taken in to become an inquisitor, whom she betrayed later on for her own personal reasons. No one betrayed her and Vader only took action once the leader woke up after getting stabbed. It's clear you didn't watch it yourself.
Reva was routinely betrayed, first by Anakin yes when he literally killed the Jedi and also by the Inquisitors who would routinely doubt her or block her attempts to get ahead, and yes this is betrayal if someone was your friend and they were constantly undercutting you would you be okay with it? I doubt it.
>doubting your uppity Black person co-worker is now betrayal
You zoomers are fricked in the head. I'm doubting your heterosexuality right now. Was that a betrayal too, because we're both anons on the same imageboard?
>if someone was your friend and they were constantly undercutting you would you be okay with it?
This is like par for course when it comes to dark side characters in Star Wars.
First of all, I highly doubt Anakin knew Reva personally as it was never established. I wouldn't call Anakin killing the Jedi a betrayal. The Inquisitors were right to doubt her as she kept fricking up by making rash decisions, after stabbing one of them of course. This also isn't a betrayal. Grow some balls.
He recognized her, and it doesn't matter if they knew each other personally, he was a Jedi, she was a Jedi, he betrayed her twice as a Jedi and Sith, this is literally the whole show
>overcoming lived trauma
Shut the frick up you insufferable moron.
>literally
discarded.
shes gotten whooped a few times and i'm only on Episode 5.
>Reva is shown struggling against everything from bias to physical resistance to trauma,
Oh wow how fricking novel.
That's a story I totally want to see yet again, but in a show called Kenobi. Golly wow how interesting. Bias. Black people trauma. So fascinating. Nothing like my constant parade of HR shit at work that I'm looking to escape with space wizards for an hour.
Black woman trauma and bias. Subjects we all care about and sympathize with.
What a shit bait
lol wtf is this shit, I dont recall this. why is she rolling around the ground.. maybe my brain blocked it
Her first move is to try and Anime speed rush behind tim to try and slash Vaders ankles. Shocking choreography.
The choreography has gotten so fricking abysmal in Star Wars ever since TLJ, maybe as early as TFA. It really is shocking how bad it is. Best choreography in recent times is Anakin fighting Ahsoka, but Anakin outshines Ahsoka so greatly in that regard.
>why is she rolling around the ground..
it's future bjj, you wouldn't get it..
why is vader swinging like that near the start? what is this
Because the actual context is Vader having a for me it was Tuesday moment. She comes at him like a spider-monkey. He's all "heh they taught you wrong as a joke." And stabs her b***h ass.
This is the Obi-Wan Kenobi tv-series we were all hoping for as kids
Vader would have bisected her in 5 seconds. What happened to choreography? All of these new shows have sloppy swordfights that drag on
>Reva was very well acted
Obvious bait is obvious
>Reva was very well acted
Not even the biggest shill wasting their time with such and lie at the time
As an aside, it's funny the Black person on One Piece is the worst actor. They're all about that anime life because it was a substitute for parental guidance, and they still managed to find a Alabama windchime that can't act his way out of a rum bottle.
>cute white girl with anime hairstyle vs ugly sheboon
Gee, I wonder why...
>white people natural hair is anime hair style
anime is literally white people aesthetics
Anime is literally humanoid cats doing whatever, anon.
>humanoid cats
Oh this cope again. Daily reminder that this only started getting pushed recently after the weebs lost the argument that anime characters look like Asians.
ya but if you had to pick a race they looked most like, i dont think it would be asian. it is possible to easily draw characters with epicanthic folds but they choose not to
do not try to argue with this man
he speaks truth and you cannot win against his argument
could be Bea Arthur vs the sheboon and ill take Bea Arthur
Bea Arthur already had a role in star wars
?feature=shared
she was israeli, not white
Oof! Is this thread real or AI spam?
I can't tell anymore. Thanks incel chuds!!!
Yes I'm real. Just like having peeps like
admit the real reason openly
Dilate then kys
one is white. the other is an out of place black. i don't care what happens to ugly creatures.
How is she out of place? There are black people in Star Wars
Ethnic hair, Billy Dee Lando looked like he belonged due to his hair, Mace due to his lack of hair, and Finn had normal hair, hell, even the mod guy from mando and Carl Weathers. Ethnic hair just looks like shit in a setting like star wars
Really stupid
Good point. The appearance of an actor in a role tells us a lot about the character being portrayed. Look at Luke and Han's hair and compare it to Leia's: Leia's hair gives us the impression that she's some kinda fancy space princess, whereas Luke/Han's hair gives us the impression that they're normal people in the setting. Reva's hair gives us the impression that she's a Black person in a galaxy full of space wizards and aliens. Lando's hair seems reasonable in the setting and doesn't detract from the world-building aspects in any way.
I don’t like looking at ugly Black folk.
I like looking at cute white girls
Racism. Just admit that it's racism. Your fear of accepting the cognomen Racist is what gives it so much power, and in turn what gives them power over you when they use it. I am a racist. I don't like Black folks.
Black peepo are ugly just admit she's ugly
I am a racist
And I do not like Black folk
Damn
That does feel good
Honesty really is the best medicine
I'm proud of you, anon.
>cute versus not cute
It’s obvious reetard
She insists upon herself
When is Hollywood going to figure out that their mean all capable black woman trope appeals to basically nobody
The Shin girl is honestly the best actor in Asohka. If you can act with just your eyes and say hardly any lines that says a lot. The other characters, especially Asohka have such pompous delivery. Even child Asohka is a better actress than Rosario Dawson.
Shin girl is second to Ray Stevenson, but I still mostly agree.
Cute white girl with bangs
Simple as
Reva was annoying. Shin isn't anything at all.
Both characters are shit, but left has simps
Reva feels like she would win in a fight.
How does the black sith girl have weave? Is there an entire planet of enslaved Chinese kids or horse aliens that they use to harvest hair for the Galactic Empire's Black person beauty salons? It kills the suspension of disbelief.
Lightsabers, aliens, space magic, all fine
Black hairstyles oh no I can't believe it
You're a cartoon
You still can't answer the question. Would Darth Vader let one of his sith apprentices take time off from hunting jedi to get her hair did at the beauty salon? Her hairstyle was a very deliberate choice on the part of the showrunners. The only other major named characters in Star Wars to ever have elaborate hairstyles were Leia and Padme, which made sense for them in context.
It's a really stupid question, I don't need to know how she does her hair. You're really reaching
>just turn your brain off
modern star wars fans in a nutshell
If you're concerned about hair style in a world of space ships, you turned your brain off a long time ago
You gays said the same thing when people criticized TLJ for having 'your mom' jokes and bombs that dropped downward in space where there's no gravity.
It's not believable in the slightest
?si=rs2ckYQ56Ohv5OQ7&t=1369
lets be real. People didn't like her because she was black. Also she made some comments about black people in star wars I think that got people mad
If she were a qt frizzy haired mullato girl it would have been way better received. You'd have a million
>I can fix her
posts.
Instead they cast a horrible God awful actress who is also very unfortunate looking on top of it. And they gave her a hairstyle that just highlights her jaw and sloped head instead of hiding it. Poor choices all around. She's offensive to look at and listen to.
Non-meme answer? Because Kenobi was a fricking terrible show. An actual laughingstock.
Because Shin is cute and Reva is a perpetually angry screaming black woman. Plus everything about Kenobi was shit except for Ewan himself.
"Woman playing a man" is a role that appeals to no one. Women don't identify with her and find her cold and unlikeable. Men don't find her endearing. The character doesn't exist in real life or fulfill any kind of demand and yet Hollywood keeps scratching their head when they keep forcing it to no applause.
IDK, think OP, THINK! one is a cute ukranian woman while the other is a constipated ape. This one is a pickle... a mystery indeed.
One ended up being the centered of episodes in someone else's show. The other did not only because Sabine took that role.
They made Reva to be unlikable which she should have been as a villain but then tried to force some sob story and redemption bullshit into it.
Like one anon said she was not a good actress She was either screaming or being melodramatic.
She didn't speak like a character in a space fantasy show either. She was just angry black b***h. And to be fair this is an issue with Star Wars since the prequels characters sounding out of the element of the setting.
People will make up reasons but honestly it's because Shin looks interesting and eccentric and has an unusual manner, while Reva is ugly, haughty and incredibly annoying. And race is part of that.
Plus people don't care about Ahsoka that much so it's not a problem if Shin steals a few minutes of screentime for herself, but Reva hijacked the Obiwan show and people really wanted to see Obiwan.
>Shin
Quiet, cool, cute, intriguing.
>Reva
Loud, obnoxious, ugly, generic, forced, boring.
One is a secondary character played by a cute actress in an ok show.
The other is in a shitty show about two fan favorite character stealing the spotlight of said character for no reason.
one is quiet and only opens her mouth when seh has something productive to say
the other one is a cartoon villain
Because Shin is cute and I want to see her dominate Sabine with her feet.
>much better and more fully realized character
Explain
Shin wasn't shoehorned at the expense of Ahsoka and co. for one I mean, the show would probably be better if she was, but Rebels/Clone Wars fans would be justifiably annoyed.
>quiet, obedient girl vs loud, obnoxious, bully
yeah that's a tough one
>cute girl
vs
>ugly c**t
she isn't even cool ugly, just ugly ugly
not a racist btw, don't care she's a niggress, she's just fricking ugly
>Jiiiiiiiii~
I hate both of them, but Shin is obviously more attractive.
One is a butt ugly she-boon that sounded like she just came out of the ghetto.
The other is an attractive woman with white skin and resonates more with the audience.
Simple as.
The penis is racist.
>why was the side character shin, in a series called Ahsoka about Ahsoka, liked?
>why was the Main character reva, in the OBI-WAN series mostly about REVA, not liked?
I hate both of them.
Star Wars ended in 2005.
*1983.
*2005
There is good in the prequels
>not the prequels but a comic book
Having to write stories you couldn't fit in the movie and justifying it as part of the movie does not make your movie good.
What about stories you could only partially fit into a movie?
?si=CgzGj9V90AXjub1u
based, but I would push it to 2007. Im sure there was some worthwhile book or something in those extra 2 years.
A yelljng Black person is not as interesting to watch as an actress who knows how to act.
Because with Shin the writers correctly realized that the actress isn't physically intimidating, so they don't have her going around stomping and shouting in a misguided attempt at being menacing.
>cute white girl vs loud overweight obnoxious sheboon
Oh gee wiz
ban me mods: its because Reva was portrayed by a Black person
you people can say Black person, dont be idiots. Its not because of the acting, you praise that israelite Gal Gadot and the b***h cant act.
>agency
literally the most useless word we have ever invented
Ok Satan
Both sucks
Reva
>New character hijacking the show supposed to be about Obi-Wan, a trojan horse for a Reva spinoff that will hopefully never happen
>Forced diversity feminism shit like a lot of Disney mandated shit characters, and therefore she can't even look the part as a dark Jedi (edgy makeup, tattoos, anything really) but just has to be an American black woman in Star Wars
>Ugly, unappealing, too much screen time
Shin
>Side character
>Looks the part
>Cute
Reva was almost Naomi Scott which would've helped a bit, but the show should've been about fricking Obi-Wan and not this random b***h
human vs non-human
That black woman can't act.
Many felt the focus on Reva took away from Obi Wan’s story, whereas Shin blends into the story better.
Think Vader molested her during her Order 66 or her inquisitor training?
Her existence implies the next sith lord will be female. Why do chuds and incels give this a pass just because the sith lord happens to be cute?
I wouldn't mind a sith lord being female. If the character is cool, it's fine. If the character sucks, it's not fine.
It's plain and simple. I hate diversity hires and I am fatigued.
left is a cute swedish girl, right is a screaming nog who is ugly beyond words. the mostly white fans of star wars will always prefer cute whte girls to unpleasant nogs
Both are shit, but Shin isn't a racist sack of shit, so I'm gonna go with her.
Come on, guys. Enough about their race. It’s not as black and white as you guys think.
Actually gross.
post shin webms
Reva caused the story to bend around her making her more important to the plot, rather than simply the side character she was supposed to be. As such all the extra time the viewers spend with Reva is too much, for the show and the actress. It gave her too much time on screen, showing her flaws not only as an actress, but also as a character. Her being black is the primary catalyst for the story bending around her.
Contrast with Shin, actress that can actually act. The story, audience and character knows her place and she doesn't overstay the welcome or bend the plot or story around her just because she is a certain color.
That's the reason people prefer one over the other.
I've been trying to learn how to get people to like certain characters in my own writing, so all of this seems pretty damn obvious to me.
Obi played out like a fan fiction with Reva as one of the main characters.
While Asohka is playing out more like rebels. Where characters don't overstay their welcome. (if you are sulking about Asohka herself, you clearly need to go watch rebels, the post war stoicism literally happens to every Jedi)
