Today, you really couldn't replicate the paranoia and thin patina of suffering that 1984 was so good at.
Sure, we live in a panopticon but everyone's fat and I can get anything I want with a click of a button. IngSoc was constantly rationing things and nothing tasted good.
If anything, Brave New World was closer than 1984.

        >We're worse off than IngSoc
It's statements like these that make me question whether the poster actually read 1984.
I'm sorry, did your chocolate rations get increased to 20 grams, too? Did your mandated physical fitness programs not fix your obesity?

What's worse though - knowing you're suffering and miserable, or being programmed to think you're happy when deep down, you're not.

they will never adapt BNW properly because it would basically just be depicting the present day and have to show it as profoundly sick and wrong. People wouldn't get it - it being: why everything about modernity is fundamentally evil

The ultimate midwit moron saying is that the world is like brave new world
Yeah we live in a failed utopia where everyone is chemically and genetically programmed to be happy and there is no way or crime outside of extreme edge cases
We don't live in a world where three dominant powers fight in endless proxy wars even though the life of an average citizen can't be distinguished from one another
We also don't live in a world where these powers and their citizens have no real ideology and are just oscillating between convenient beliefs which possess instrumental utility in the moment
We don't live in a world where mass surveillance by a fascist fusion of state and corporation is not only a reality but is commonly accepted as a fact of life (and a preferable fact at that) by 99% of the population
Nope, were living in the brace new world timeline, not the 1984 timeline

the more relevant part of 1984 is more the transformation of language for political purposes.
and to everyone saying "brave new world was more right about the future than 1984", I don't know why it has to be a competition between the two, both of them got some things right, and our current manufactured reality has also evolved in nuanced ways not predicted by either.

i don't know what the context of that pic is but i've seen a lot of basic stuff I took for granted in my youth go down the toilet over the years, i wouldn't blame anyone to try to ring the alarm and alert other people, even if they exaggerate or don't get everything 100% right. guerrilla tactics are required to resist the media's power to define what "reality" is.
