Why haven't you abandoned capeshit?
Do you enjoy being jerked around? Is it merely your opiate of choice, something to burn time on until the big sleep comes?
Especially the recent stuff, oof.

      >Why haven't you abandoned capeshit?
Because I'm nowhere near reading all the superhero comics that I wanted to read, I don't NEED to read the adventures of the non binary spider person if I don't want to, and I don't have to support the absolute clown circus that is the modern comic industry, also I can't take anyone who unironically uses the term "capeshit" seriously.

An homage to an obscure Silver age character added to an episode of Justice league Unlimited for sheer "what the frick" factor.

      grew up with it.
like my parents grew up with westerns and war movies..its just part of who I am

How are his forearms this huge.

Are you liking what they're doing to your favorite characters?
Westerns and war movies have a lot of good and great entries. The same cannot be said about superheroes.
      [...]
Reading too much bad writing is detrimental. Also, it's better to learn good writing. Read books instead. All the best capeshit writers read a lot of prose books.
Besides, if you do break into the industry, you have to dealt with editors telling you what you can and can't do with this or that character.
      [...]
      Even the terribly written shit?

      >if you do break into the industry, you have to dealt with editors telling you what you can and can't do with this or that character.
If anything, the editors need to do more of that, like telling Spencer you can't turn Captain America into a Hydra agent, for example.
      >The same cannot be said about superheroes.
Then why are you disappointed with the current state of comics? If there are NO good superhero comics at all and the industry just sucks than that's just the way things are.

That's the kind of stuff that's done out of desperation from stuck in the same mudpit that's been more or less stagnant for decades. Though I think Spencer is a shit writer, he was probably trying to make a few waves because it's so fricking boring and suffocating writing Captain fricking America in the 21st century. It was probably a dream job at some point too. Though editors are probably stuck with a bunch of less-than-adequate writers they have to wrangle. With the whole shared universe thing, it's a giant shit soup.
        >Then why are you disappointed with the current state of comics?

has both good and bad points. You should read good and bad books to perfect your own work, but don’t just think that novels are better than comics because they don’t have pictures, there’s plenty of terrible prose literature out there too. One example is Eye of Argon, the novel equivalent to Plan 9 from Outer Space.

My favorite characters are B/C-Listers that occasionally get something new, it's usually decent because only writers that are already interested in them go out of their way to write them. Otherswise I don't bother with modern books and stick to classics.

Because I like the characters and making up my own stories just doesn't seem to feel as "real" as the official stories.

Basically these comics are living off the goodwill that has been built up for these characters. They know that we'll keep coming back because we somehow feel like Spider-Man is a real person and we have to see what happens to him, no matter how stupid it is (but unlike a real person, we have the privilege of dismissing any story we don't like as "not in character" and waiting for a good one).

That goes without saying, but why do any of us read about or watch imaginary people and feel sad when bad shit happens to them? We feel like they could be real, or at least that they remind us of real people.

The evil genius of never-ending comics is that they can suck us in with a good run and then keep us coming back even after we've almost forgotten why we identified with these characters in the first place.
