Why I Love the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

WARNING: SPOILERS INVOLVED. PLEASE DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ALL 6 EPISODES

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has really ended up impressing me after watching all six episodes and ends up being, as others have proclaimed, "an essential piece of Star Wars viewing"

Look, I know it's not perfect, and there are some annoying elements and writing flaws, but the overall picture is pure joy for me. Let me briefly explain the best I can

It starts out strong with a look at Ewan as Obi Wan in his life on Tatooine. He's broken and uninspired, which reminds me a lot of The Last Jedi Luke, which I didn't fully like. but what I do like is how these characters (more so Obi-Wan) have a "return to form" sort of speak and end up becoming the characters we know and love.

Now some of the flaws of the series, especially in the early / middle chapters, involve Leia. They dive a little too deep into her, especially early on when the series is supposed to be about Obi-Wan, which was disconcerting, but the later episodes it became a non-issue for me. Say what you want about Leia's portrayal, she can be annoying, but encapsulates the smile, charm, wit, and leadership of the actual character from the late Carrie Fischer, so I think it actually works. Reva's backstory is interesting and serves a nice sub-plot for the series, but the main story is Obi-Wan and comes to a roaring finale.

Ewan encapsulates the character so well. He is Obi-Wan and this is his show, especially in the end. The finale pits Kenobi and Vader in the showdown. Vader is the loose canon that "early Vader" is because he still is new to the transformation if you will, so he is still full of anger and all he wants is Kenobi and revenge.

    Continued from OP

It starts out with Obi-Wan saying that he will "do what I must" which is a sensational start to the fight. This is how the epic fight started in Ep 3 Revenge of the Sith. (An excellent nod that fans should pick up on). We see the true master here amongst a cinematic backdrop. Vader takes the high ground and we think he has gotten revenge, but Kenobi rises and ends up beating his apprentice again, with a heart-breaking scene in which he destroys parts of Anakin's suit and slicing up part of his helmet, revealing the man who was once his friend. The cutting, alternating audio between James Earl-Jones and Christensen is chilling, mirroring the conflict and personification of the internal battle of the character. He is more "machine than man" but we see the man here. Vader is pure evil however, consumed, and admits to his own destruction of Anakin. And Obi-Wan knows it and there is just nothing he can do but to leave him in the dust where he belongs. He will not kill him. He isn't that kind of person, especially since Anakin was his best fried. He'd rather let Anakin "kill himself." I left this scene with the same emotion leaving the theater after Ep 3 Revenge of the Sith. It was crafted well.

The appearance of Hayden in his jedi training scene with Obi-Wan on Coruscant, to the flashback of Order 66, to the dramatic finale all work for me and move me as a fan of the saga.

I also felt more of a proper connection between Obi-Wan and all of the other characters, especially in the finale. And especially a stronger connection between Obi-Wan and Leia. Nostalgic characters from the past all help throughout the series too. A nod to past films and attributes with quotes and scenery all make this a special experience for me.

Overall, it has an intriguing and exciting opening act, with some slowdown and lame escapades sprinkled in around the middle, but then ignites in the final act and made me a proud and excited viewer.

      2nd Continue from OP

The series, albeit not all the way through, has set out to what I think the show needed and wanted to be about, and ended up illustrating just that - a series about Obi-Wan Kenobi, who he is, and about his former friend and padawan, and the tragedies surrounding Obi-Wan's relationships. Isn't that what we as fans mainly wanted in the first place?

Sorry for the jumbling of thoughts here but I wanted to say what I feel in a somewhat cohesive manner. Hopefully I did that so some extent.

They could end it here with these six episodes or they can continue. They must be careful though. We'll see, in a galaxy, far, far away

Wow, what interesting and thoughtful commentary. Have you ever considered starting a youtube channel? I bet it would be very successful.

And, hey, if that doesn't work out, you will always have the smell of your own farts to keep you company.

The company is irrelevant we are discussing the show and the show was pretty good. Best part is haydens performance was the highlight and now he will finally get the praise he deserves I feel happy for him always liked his anakin

            Anonymous

Well said. I agree. Hayden is deserving. Ep 2 the dialogue was poor. But I give him his due in Ep 3, and that was the important Ep when everything turns dark for his character. He was convincing. And now in this series he is just as deserving, maybe more

I dont even think the dialog is poor example the I hate sand part I find nothing wrong with it and agree with him and the anakin w padme love dialog is just like cringey kids in real life

Yea I think people overreact to the dialogue, but it could have been done better. Well said though. Thank you for a legit and meaningful comment and not stupid immature hate shit

Thug hunters? The inquisators? I think they were poor and cheap looking. Reva was 80% bad the Asian one was good actor but looked moronic and grand inquiz looked cheap and his voice was moronic even though I like Rupert friend I think he was poor in this role. They should of did the big monster one and the girl with the mask from the fallen order game instead
