Why is Andor so much better than everything else produced by Disney? It's so good it doesn't even feel like it belongs to the same brand, like it came out of a different timeline where Star Wars is actually good and has a different quality standard

Because the first 1/2 episodes are literally shit and made me drop it.

Thankfully I gave it another shot and it picks up a lot. Star wars is so much better when there is no fricking "the force" and "jedi" bullshit.

He did enjoy the thing. Star Wars is a big enough universe it doesnt need those things to tell a good story, while retaining worldbuilding consistency.

I'm sure Tony Gilroy could write a good story that includes the force and Jedi, but he would build it up much more and actually make it feel special instead of just slapping it onto random glup shittos

The force and Jedi bullshit is kino but a lot of Star Wars media kind of misses the point of everything that made the Jedi interesting in the original movies

I liked the first two episodes. End of episode 2 really hooked me.
sadly episodes 3-4-5 went absolutely nowhere interesting and all the new characters introduced were absolutely dogshit boring so I dropped it.

is right, actually a good character and then he dies in a harsh anticlimactic way. very kino. it's a bit of a slog to get there but the heist was actually pretty good. the pacing for Andor to end up in Imperial prison for another totally different raisin is kinda jarring but then it gets exciting again

That was actually great. It showed Andor that there is no point in running away and the Empire is just going to expand and become worse and more abritrary

the force and jedi shit is good its just that since the prequels nobody knows how to do it right. the choreography is so garbage and the lightsabres themselves are odd. sometimes they look 100% plastic, weird lightning, no weight, etc. star wars never had any business continuing. actually that only applies to the shows and some of the newer movies though i can't recall it well.

Andor was made by someone like Tony Gilroy while the rest of that trash is made by people who see Star Wars as a brand for morons and children

Honestly after Mando season 3, Boba Fett and Obi Wan I was done with Star Wars and I still am but did see Andor based on recommendations and it turned out to be the best Star Wars related content ever made, it will also be the last time I'm ever interested in Star Wars again, after season 2 I'm done unless Gilroy does something else but I hope he doesn't

      Anonymous

Gilroy already said that he's done after 2 seasons. He actually puts in the work and it drains him. He said he would end up in fetal position if he did more. That's really the difference between him and Filoni

  35. 7 months ago
    Anonymous

Probably because there is barely anything from Star Wars in it. Andor took the SW aesthetic and one major element from Star Wars - the Empire - and built a story around that, while re-using as few other elements as possible. Mando season 1 was kind of similar, they took the mythos of Boba Fett, the space bounty hunter who never removes his helmet and built a story around that, although there are significantly more references to other Star Wars things in Mandalorian.

      Anonymous

Also the funny thing is, when it comes down to it, Andor is STILL just the same old Star Wars story of rebels vs. Empire. But they manage to do it competently and without shoehorning in a bunch of other Star Wars references.

        Anonymous

It takes the universe and does something new with it. All the other shows are the exact opposite of that.

          Anonymous

I wouldn't call it "new" exactly because it's still the Empire/rebellion but it explores an element of the old movies that is really compelling and deserves attention. The Empire is cool as frick and it's interesting to see their POV and how they operate.

Didnt the director say that they were left alone when making it and disney forgot that they funded the show so they were allowed to do whatever they wanted?

Close, it's not that they were forgotten, but Tony Gilroy was surprised how little they cared what he did. I think Disney really banked on Obi Wan and Boba and just wanted another series to fill space, so they didn't really care what Gilroy did to Andor. They heard somewhere that Rogue One was popular but didn't really care as to why so whatever.
I think the only thing Disney in the end changed is that Marva says "Frick the Empire" and not "Fight the Empire"

I think it was a similar story with the first season of The Mandalorian saying this as someone with no knowledge or insider info about the making of The Mandalorian
The main focus of and Kennedy and Lucasfilm when that was getting made would've been The Rise of Skywalker. I think it's pretty clear that Lucasfilm more or less treated Mandalorian as a back-up, B-team thing, letting the animation guy finally do a little bit of live-action Star Wars as a treat. They didn't even have any Baby Yeed toys ready to go when it first dropped. And then with the next two seasons, you can tell there's a much heavier hand at play behind the scenes asking for all the spin-off set ups and certain characters being pushed or having a cameo

Yeah I think so too. Mando was originally part of the bigger plan of "additional content because people just will never get tired of anything Star Wars" and they didn't really cared about it too much. They just wanted content and if it fails who cares it was just to fill the streaming library people come for the movies. But then it turned out that Mando is the only thing that carried Disney Star Wars from people losing interest completely and that's when the execs moved in and Mando turned to shit
I'm really afraid they'll ruin Andor S2 because of that too. But they started filming Andor immediately after S1 finished before Disney realized it's critical reception (and the streaming numbers werent that good anyway) so I just hope that they still don't care about Andor and just let Gilroy finish his story

        Anonymous

        >only thing execs changed was dropping an f bomb to protect the in universe mythology
That's probably the most star wars thing they've ever done. Focusing on an element of the story that has nothing to do with the jedi or sith or force homosexualry in general was what made the show so good.

Although I'm pretty sure Luthien is a jedi, at the very least he's using jedi technology in his ship and is an elite pilot.

Might be a Jedi that turned away from the force. I would find it extremely lame if Luthen was an actual Jedi

            Anonymous

That definitely makes more sense. He's way too nonchalant about sacrificing lives and starting a war to be a true jedi. He's literally using terrorism to incite the empire into attacking settlements solely for the purpose of provoking uprisings. I'm pretty sure he planned on killing Andor too.

Frick he might actually be a Sith that just happens to be an anti imperial.

what is so goofy about having barrel roll laser counter-measures? seems pretty effective for dogfighting. also if someone's going to argue that the kind of super-laser produced by a Jedi's lightsabre is rare and costly it does look like a limited burst kind of DIY weapon that the rich rebel pirate antique dealer could get his hands on or have made for him

Because Filoni has deviant art tier ideas and characters. He uses existing content from the EU and a lot of those things have some quality to them before he comes along and makes them worse. Example: Thrawn who is supposed to be a super smart tactician who throughout Filoni's use of him is constantly losing and doing nonsensical things that undermine his characterization.

Filoni also relies heavily on nostalgia and cameos thus decreasing the feeling of size and scope of the star wars universe and connecting things with too many contrivances.

He doesn't know subtlety in his direction. Like the reunion between Sabine and Ezra should be an emotionally heavy moment but it's directed to just fall flat.

Every episode of his shows requires a fight and the heroes to win at the end. This leads to schizophrenic pacing, a loss of any feelings of stakes because the heroes win so often and tensions are resolved so quickly.

And don't get me started on the Mortis Gods which are by far and away the worst thing to happen to the franchise, eclipsing midichlorians by lightyears

    >Andor is a shit character no one gives a shit about
    >Speeches were tryhard, forced and cringe
    >Mon Monthma's storyline stalled and became boring incredibly fast. No actual politics. The b***h was just sitting at home with a sad face and bickering with her awful family. I felt sadder for her when she said, "Many Bothans died to bring us this information," than throughout the entirety of Andor
    >Saw Gerrera was just a cameo and really had no reason to be in the show
    >Luthen's action scene with the lightsaber ship was garbage and utterly pointless, did not affect the story in any way, because he goes to Ferrix on the next day for some reason, despite being established as a cautious person. He had no reason to be there, because he had already dispatched two deadly assassins after Andor. He went there, because the writer couldn't figure out how to get Andor and Luthen together. And the only reason Andor found him was because conveniently Luthen parked at the exact same spot out of all the places on a fricking planet
    >BE TOO EMO is cringe, forced toybait, much like BB8
    >Flashbacks were useless shit
    >Retconned Cassian's "I was in this fight since I was 6 years old" Separatist background, making the character even less interesting than he was before
    >Useless filler incel clerk storyline that is absolutely pointless and will not lead to anything substantial
    >Lots of empty, pointless Emmy bait talking that reads like the writer jerking off
    >Dogshit pacing and structure, episodes often just end abruptly without achieving anything, no sense of finality or hook to most of them
    >99% of the show was humans, and 90% of them had London accents. Almost no aliens. So much for rich and diverse Star Wars galaxy

What made Andor so good is that it's so honest
Unlike Filoni trash it didn't feel like it's trying to explain away campiness with the excuse that it's made for kids and it doesn't hind behind post modern irony like Rian Johnson or just copy anything and say "But you liked it when the OT did it!"
It told a genuine human story with real emotions and weight with relatable characters. It's not only something that you don't get with modern Star Wars, you rarely get it with modern productions at all. Nobody dares to tell real stories anymore, nobody dares to play things straight, nobody dares to show real emotions it all needs to be hidden behind some wall of irony or layers of "lol I didn't mean it that way" crap

Oh, if another Disney employee said so... I guess that must be true! I am sure George liked it from a technical standpoint. It's a competently shot movie and it looked good and had good VFX. Storywise? It's completely moronic and goes heavily against everything George did and said and it directly contradicts ANH. And the Vader scene was so embarrassing, that it read like a direct opposite of what Lucas was trying to do.

I don't know how I can go back to star wars now, broskis. Andor is just... so good. The rest of star wars banal poorly written kiddie shit pales in comparison.

Rouge One and Andor are literally the best Star Wars. Finally, Star Wars for adults that is not embarrassing to watch. Everything else is fricking embarrassing. Honestly, go watch A New Hope, or even Empire Strikes Back - dogshit dialogue, hockey acting, shit action, goofy ass cringe shit all around, quips. Nothing on the level of Stellan Skarsgard or Andy Serkis. Nothing like impeccable Gilroy's tone and atmosphere. Star Wars is a dead fossil, and it needs to be rebooted. And Tony Gilroy is the right man. Everything else is fricking dogshit and terrible. You know I am right.

Let Gilroy remake the original trilogy and go from there.
Decanonize everything else except Andor and Rogue One.
Seriously, who wants this dumb shit?
Stupid ass MCU quipping teenagers taking down the Empire? A farmer boy? Fricking moronic kiddie garbage nonsense.
KK can redeem herself if she fires everyone except Gilroy and his team and reboots Star Wars to proper standards (such as Rogue One and Andor).

Hereby, I declare official Star Wars canon for mature sophisticated adults with taste:
    Andor
    Rogue One

my best hope is that they leave the skywalker era alone after already doing so much damage. fast forward 1000 years with entirely new characters and the lore of the skywalker era being distant history only referenced here and there.

There's way too much clusterfrick ideas and I primarily blame Filoni for bringing them into cannon. There's a way to make movies that appeal to kids and adults without degrading into nonsense and overly sillyness.

At least throwing sand in someones face is actual violence lmao. Just face it, Rogue One and Andor are objectively the only quality productions Star Wars has ever done and you can not cite anything better nor will you even try because you correctly perceive that you will be annihilated.

People will defend Rogue One and Andor for 5 threads straight. NO ONE is defending the OT or the ST or any of the other shows. No one. The PT is defensible but only because it tries (and mostly fails) to be what Andor actually is, a well written poli/mil scifi drama with quality action scenes propped up by immersive CGI.

            Anonymous

Did you confuse OT and PT?

              Anonymous

              Did you?
OT is the least immersive of all of them. The Empire outside of Vader is functionally worthless and that's BEFORE you watch ROTJ which completely invalidates them as a fighting force to be taken seriously. That Vader is beaten by a child with a fraction of his experience and that the Empire only lasts 20 years IN CANON is proof that it's a fricking joke.

At least in the PT the threat is real, Palpatine has genuinely subverted the Senate, the Republic's incompetence is always at the forefront exists in name only to preserve peace while waging war which goes along symmetrically with the Jedi being peacekeepers yet are literally fighting to enforce their perceived superior rule of law on planets that don't want or need Republic support. There's a lot of different variables feeding the conflict on both sides and Anakin himself correctly calls out the stupidity of the entire system. The larger the needs become the simpler the government must become and the most efficient and appropriate way to manage conflicts between these two points is force. He shows his dark side affinity before he even starts befriending Palpatine. The threat here is presented in a very real and respectable way. The execution of the production (over reliance on CGI, incoherent dialogue) is a weakness but the plot still works.

Clones were seen as heroes. The show is pretentious, middling and extremely pedestrian. Looks ugly, bland and doesn't feel like Star Wars at all. All the magic and wonder are gone. It tries to be 'adult', but comes off as juvenile instead, i.e. a character saying 'shit' — this is what Star Wars has been reduced to. The dialogues are tedious and dragged out. The writer is definitely an egocentric graphomaniac. It has "literary" quality at the expense of coming off as artificial and forced. The pacing is terrible. The episodes often just end abruptly without concluding anything they set out to do, including the finale. main character is a charisma vacuum Mexican, who dies in the spin-off prequel where he was introduced — and where his entire character arc happened. Other characters are just as dull. None of them behave like real people, they all take everything over-the-top seriously, which comes off as automatons going through the motions the writer requires them, and not how organic, real people talk or act.

The fanbase is extremely obnoxious, no better than TLJgays. They don't even like Star Wars, they just like feeling smarter than they actually are. Any shill andor thread is basically this:
    >YOU ARE NOT MATURE ENOUGH FOR THIS MATURE STAR WARS FOR ADULTS!
    >THIS IS THE BEST STAH WAHZ SINCE ESB!
    >YOU JUST WANT PEW PEW!
    >YOU ARE A PREQUELgay!

    >YOU WANTED LUKE TO BE A MARY SUE WITH NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!
    >GO WATCH HIM CHOP CHOP SOME ROBOTS AND BRINGING DOWN STAR DESTROYERS LIKE A MARY SUE!!!
    Very obnoxious.

All in all, generic and bland story with no novelty of themes and ideas, that should never have been told. Just like Rogue One ruined the Death Star and Darth Vader, this keeps ruining it even further.

Original trilogy only. Sorry, homosexual. But i must say, mando s1 was not bad, and seems pretty good just for a while....

Rogue one - was ok, just because main pretty girl and Vader scene. Behind that it was bad movie

Prequels - souless cgi, bad writing. Revenge of the sith the only ok one, but still shit if u think of it.

Andor - doesn't have pretty girls at all, and doesn't have Vader. So. Its more shit that it could be.

Ahsoka, Filonimovie and sequels - why i need this, if i have trawn trilogy books already ages ago. Go have a nice day, disney.
