The name of the comic is Peanuts, not Charlie Brown. While Charlie's usually considered the main character, the other characters get their moments in the spotlight too. Lucy's an important character in the strip, and I don't see a problem with giving her character focus in one work.

People do get pissy when Snoopy is the star. He became the mascot of the franchise and people hate when the marketable character gets a series.

Counterpoint: Schulz hated the name "Peanuts" and fought his entire life to get the name of the strip changed to "Charlie Brown". Hence why all of the media made during his lifetime use "Charlie Brown" or "Snoopy" instead of "Peanuts".

      >in one work
She's starred in 2 out of the 4 specials, while Charlie Brown only got one.

Weird Schulz never made a play to get ownership of the strip like Capp and Breathed did.
The syndicate could have fired Sparky at any time and hired some ghost artists to churn out Peanuts

          Anonymous

Schulz pretty much rolled over and did whatever he was told to, which was about the only reason why he never got replaced.

            Anonymous

Not really. When Schulz complained about getting fricked over contract-wise, the syndicate threatened to replace him and even commissioned about two-three months worth of "Nu-Peanuts" from a guy who the syndicate had on retainer in the event they ever fired Schulz as far as being able to draw the strip close enough to Schulz's style to fool normies.

Luckily, Schulz found out about the plan and leaked the fact that he was in danger of being replaced to the media and the shit storm made the syndicate give Schulz the pay raise and a larger cut of the merch/media money.

wait the guy was paid to just be available to replace shultz?

Schulze made MULTIPLE attempts to buy the strip back from the syndicate, but every time he made a rather reasonable high price offer to buy it, they demanded an even higher amount of money than Schulze had in his bank account for the sole purpose of holding onto the franchise.

because Charlie Brown is a cis white male
but actually because he's a boring MC, if it wasn't Lucy it would be Peppermint Patty.

I'd rather see Patty as the MC for a Peanuts special for once. That character is a lot more interesting and has tons of baggage to unpack.

    Soi cucks.

Lucy's an alright character, but as a huge Peanuts fan, I think Peppermint Patty has a lot of the good plots... E.g. the summer camp rafting etc. She's a good character for specials since she's dynamic. Linus is another character who is more dynamic, which is aided by Sally's unrequited love for him. See:

The ep with the girl in the barn, the ep with the girl who gets cancer. Two excellent specials.

Lucy and Charlie Brown are more one dimensional, you got mopey kid and meanstreak kid.......

If I had to make a Peanuts special and it HAD to be good, I'm going to pick Peppy P or Linus v P, my boyz from the hood, to make that special.

I thought the same, Peppermint Patty is a more interesting character she has a lot of moments of maturity and beautiful naivity she is very direct and she's just such a good person. But let's be honest the writers will get her wrong and you need a heart and a soul to write a character like her, that's why I suspect they choose Lucy, to write Lucy to write her you barely need a heart, you can write a self intitled brat that is an annoying girl boss. She's a wet dream for any delusional self inserting fujoshi that aspires to write a mini Harley Quinn.
Would you read a comic about a freckled girl that is really cool, confident, kind hearted and plays softball?

Use your head for a second here. Men self inserting into Peanuts would insert as Linus so they get that bunny boiler Sally ass. A trans dude into dykes would insert as Marcy so he could frick Patty.

Nobody wants to be bangin' Marcy.

Lucy was intended to be a vicious put-down of bullying, narcissistic people like her but instead zoomers and millennials identify with her.

      Anonymous

      >Zoomers don't know that Charles used to beat the shit out of Lucy,

Lucy was written as a pretty innocent character initially. Her old style was more like her softball eps where she plants flowers on the pitching mound etc. She was a harmless "annoyance" back then.

I have the comics where Charles threatens to punch her in the mouth if she doesn't shut up. Not picrel lol.

Pretty much anything you can say about Charlie Brown has been said already.
Chuck is a character of routines, and those routines have all been done over and over. It's like with Peter Parker, he's been so relentlessly a loser for decades that he's now pathetic and not endearing.
And if you throw him a bone fans will complain that's not Charlie Brown. At best, like with the CGI film, you can make him win but then it feels like a closure to his character arc, and why to keep on going with him?
The other characters have more possibilities, they can both lose and win while with Chuck you know he'll always lose anyway.

What do you mean? Lucy is the star. She steals the show from Chuck so often its a troupe. Just tell the modern writers not to forget that Peanuts has quite a few more characters than Lucy and to use them.

Seems like something Lucy would push for. This is like ROTMNT making Raph the leader instead of Leo. Aimed specifically for current gen.

Wtf I thought Cinemaphile liked her? Or just peanuts fans in general like her.

      Anonymous

I think most fans like her as a secondary character but hate the idea of her gaining protagonism.
I'm indifferent to the idea, she's kind of unlikable but she also gets things going against her relatively often (except when she's deling with Chuck and that's because Chuck can't win against anyone) and that's always enjoyable, it'd be another thing if everything always went right for her.
