Why is Bart so often called fat?

Why is Bart so often called fat? He's not drawn any different from Milhouse and Nelson, and Martin looks chubbier than him.

Consider the possibility that they're all fat.

I believe this is the correct answer? People in Springfield are canonically considered overweight, after all they are Duff's World's Fattest Town.

This. The show mentions corn A LOT too so you know they love their corn syrup.

A lot of the kids are overweight, the fact that they bully Bart specifically could be because they know his dad is fat.

That was technically caused by medication rather than natural chunkiness.

I can hear the line so clearly. The voice cast is at least 50% of the reason Simpsons turned out as funny as it did.

I think it's just the artstyle. South park kids all look "wide bodied" but only cartman's body shape is what a fat kid looks like in that show.

I mean, obvious clip references aside, have you seen the way his family eats? It's a wonder the kid isn't fatter, really. And no one is going to call Nelson out for being the lardass he is, he's the school bully.

Bart was designed as a fat boy. Then they designed Milhouse for the Butterfinger commercial and fricked up and made him the same shape as Bart.

Then they added a bunch of other kids as the show went on that looked fatter like Martin and Bart became the 'default' kid shape.

But he's still fat, just like how Homer is somehow the fattest most gluttonous man in Springfeild despite much fatter men like Barney, Comic Book Guy, Wiggim etc existing.

Most gluttonous certainly, but is he really presented as the fattest?

Knowing Bart was fat and he's fine with being fat even after Lisa said "have another pop tart, tubby" gave me confidence as a fat boy. It also made me glad I was born a guy because media had so many chubby male leads.
