Why is Blue Beetle bombing?
It has a positive score on Rotten Tomatoes. It has positive word of mouth on Twitter. Double Toasted liked it. And it stars a Latino who isn’t a fascist (unlike Batman).
Why did it bomb? Does it have a chance at redemption like Elemental?

It looks like a bad Ironman ripoff
It does nothing to stand out among the excess of capeshit we’ve seen
Yep. The only winning move for a BB movie would have been to avoid the scorched earth of the scarab suit. An earnest yet light-hearted Kord would have at least been somewhat novel in the current market and might have reasonably hoped to end up a cult classic. I like Jaime, but he has nothing unique to offer except his race in the already-crowded movie space, and Latinos don't turn out like blacks do.
General audiences don’t trust DC comics and see it as an inferior brand.
DC should give up on a shared universe and bench their conventional capeshit characters for a while
Swamp Thing could be interesting. Jonah Hex deserves a reboot. I, vampire has potential. Explore other genres.
They should. People have been telling them forever to do this. But WB is obsessed with having their own MCU.
they did that, in 2017
then they had one hit with Joker and another with standalone Batman and stopped doing separate continuities again
I think Gunn convinced WB a shared universe is still possible. Which is why they are planning on a new Batman movie, a Superman movie that has tons of superheroes, and keeping stuff like Peacemaker canon despite not making sense.
>Which is why they are planning on a new Batman movie
How is that not going to cause fatigue?
I think WB is overestimating how much the public likes Batman and overusing him.
The Batman was suppose to make a billion and while managed to make 700M, made less than Dr Strange 2.
And the Flash was advertised as a Batman movie with multiple Batman’s and most of the toys were Batman related and it still bombed.
People genuinely do like Batman, but there has to be space between reboots
The Batman came so soon after Ben Affleck's Batman which was pretty close after Nolan's
It also des not help that Warner has a horrible habit to overinflate budgets, like how they recently confirmed that The Flash costed 300 Million instead of the previously reported 220 Million, making it even a bigger flop than previously thought, like seriously, how does The Batman cost 185-200 Million dollars?
Barbie cannot overcome Warner's flops forever.
Barbie is the highest grossing theatrical run in WB's history, and is STILL putting butts in theater seats.
It's their most successful movie ever.
Everything else is fricked. At best, DC movies will be scaled back to modest budget pieces made to fill gaps in their schedule. At worst, they're pulling the plug unless Legacy is a runaway hit.
As I said, it cannot overcome Warner's flops forever, also you are forgetting inflation, but good for Barbie for making so much money I guess.
>it cannot overcome Warner's flops forever
Which is why they're going to stop pouring money onto the roaring dumpster fire of DC Superhero movies.
Don't underestimate Warner's stupidity, it's only second to Lucasfilm.
>Which is why they're going to stop pouring money onto the roaring dumpster fire of DC Superhero movies
These aren't being shot, they're not even scripted yet. Literally the only work that's been done on any of these movies beyond Supes and Bats is the logos, and there is zero obligation to follow through on any of it. Half of these are getting shitcanned, and the other half are getting their budgets slashed, I guarantee it.
Barbie is something new. Capeshit is trite.
>The Batman was suppose to make a billion and while managed to make 700M, made less than Dr Strange 2.
Yeah it would be better to start from a non capeshit property, and then if that succeeds you can expand from there into the capeshit if you really need to.
>Yeah it would be better to start from a non capeshit property, and then if that succeeds you can expand from there into the capeshit if you really need to.
exactly. And let's be honest - the MCU really oversaturated a lot of the genre tropes in the most lowest common denominator fashion possible.
It's not going to bring in new audiences atm. You need to pivot and show something new.
Marvel and DC themselves were never just superheroes.
I am genuinely excited for the new Spawn movie, if it ever actually happens, just so we can have a grimdark X-Treme 90's-core edgy palate cleanser.
Everyone will be nostalgic for badly timed quips and giant CGI blooms when they watch Jamie Fox teleport inside of a dude and rip his way out of the dude's corpse, to get revenge for the murder of his hobo friends. We can all join hands and sing Kumbaya as Violator literally eats people's hearts out.
Man, I'm not even a Spawn fan and I will never stop enjoying how deliciously dumb (in a good way) and edgy it is to have one of your iconic vilain be a demon named fricking VIOLATOR.
I've been re-reading it lately, first time in years, and lots of stuff is clicking that didn't when I was younger. Violator isn't even a villain, really. He's stuck on Earth, because he wasn't good enough at doing demon stuff, but he goes around finding and killing the scum of the world: murderers and rapists and the like. Sure, he's doing it to bolster the armies of Hell, but he's making the world better for bad reasons. He's basically a second anti-hero who occasionally shows up to upstage the main character, and it's just so much fun.
He usually just butts heads with Spawn to test him, or give him a tutorial on his powers, or because he gets bored. They're basically co-workers who don't get along but hate their boss more than each-other.
It's fricked.
And it's so much fun.
I should add that I'm french, and "rape" in frogspeech is "viol". So it's like having a vilain named "RAPEMACHINE" going around pulling off people head.
I can assure you that it means "rapist" in English as well.
Yeah I know, but from my understanding it's less used and not the default word for it. Violator also is litteraly a english word, but a french would say "violeur". The "ator" part make it sound like latin and it add to the lulz factor.
Anyway, love Spawn, never been a big fan but it's definitly fun.
should've made, a new batman film but with 2 batgirls
>Batman a fascist
>director shits on Mexicans for rejecting Latinx
DC deserves to flop.
shits on Mexicans for rejecting Latinx
This probably hurt blue beetle more than calling Batman a fascist.
shits on Mexicans for rejecting Latinx
Lol, really?
What a homosexual.
shits on Mexicans for rejecting Latinx
what a Black person.
>Insult target audience
Why are directors such fricking morons?
When you have your moron actor go out and tell Mexicans/Latinos "I want to prove that Latinos can be superheroes too", it just shows you don't know shit about your own heritage/culture. We have so many iconic people/heroes like El Chapulin Colorado, El Santo and Blue Demon already. Why the frick would Blue Beetle be more important? Actual US born Latin Americans who are in touch with their culture don't buy into that representation bullshit.
>director shits on mexicans for rejecting latinx
Holy frick, this can't be real
> why don't you just make an entirely different movie about a different character?
>We have so many iconic people/heroes like El Chapulin Colorado, El Santo and Blue Demon already.
Zoomers don't care about any of them, they just exist like Blue Beetle.
Even I know how awesome luchadores are and I'm a goddamn Atlantic Canadian thanks to Jackie Chan Adventures and Killer 7. I don't think I was ever in the same room as a latino.
the director also called for the assassination of a former President, a President who seems to be hated by the media and the political elite simply for pointing that lower middle class america is suffering and dying.
Bernie Sanders never made it to presidency.
yeah hes really crying about with those donation money he used to buy his houses
Sanders never talked about lower middle class america, only women, blacks and illegals
the average movier goer doesn't know or care about directors or anything they say unless they're anderson, nolan, or spielberg. The reasons it's flopping are incredibly obvious if you pull your head out of your ass.
>the average movier goer doesn't know or care about directors
homie there a new D&D movie that flopped hard proved this wrong.
>director shits on Mexicans for rejecting Latinx
Really? Fricking kek how?
homie NO ONE WATS BOOTLEG IRON MAN shit man they should've made him look like this bro frick man
That would be uncanny and horrifying to audiences. Like Ugly Sonic.
BUT HE HAS A MOUTH not giving blue beetle his mouth is like not giving bat man his cape man you don't do that shit bro
That face looks like shit tho
>millions in marketing
hahahaha, good one
Turns out all the "Blue Beetle solo en cines 18 de agosto" were paid shills
It's the one capeshit movie I've seen ads for on the tv in forever.
Genre fatigue and a bad reputation for the brand and studio. Blue Beetle may be a good movie, but it comes on the coattails of a decade of awful garbage, and an announcement that it’s effectively being dumped and that it won’t be required reading for the next movie.
The lemon is dry. Warner has squeezed every last drop of juice from its audience and the only people left are the small group of die-hards.
Comic books are not popular. Sales-wise, most barely skate by without losing money. Even with variant covers and new number 1’s every year, nothing does a million copies in sales. Between Canada and the United States, there’s a total population of more than 368 million people.
If you tallied up all the people on this continent that buy monthly floppy books, there’s likely less than one million regular comic book readers. And only a small portion of that tiny figure gives a frick about any particular character.
Nobody cares about comic books, and a tide of positive reputation was kept Superhero movies going. That tide has gone out. The only people who still want to watch them is the same less-than-one-million people who buy comic books. Hell, less than that, because I sure don’t want to spend $15 to see another superhero movie. My ability to give a frick has been burnt out.
always seen super hero movies as a quick option for a parent or a young group of friends looking for a movie. nobody goes out and drives to a theater just for the next [HERO] movie. it's just a simple superhero action movie, same as all the others, and no one really complains about seeing something with decent quality (in terms of looks) but if there was a specific franchise that released a sequel or a movie that just interests a specific person then the capeshit movies get forgotten. mission impossible is iconic and memorable, people are familiar of what a barbie is regardless of gender, and superhero movies are common but it's all mashed together. like what you said about such a small market of consumers that go for comics, there's only so many people who knows who blue beetle is, if it's not the top of the top of superhero movies like marvel then why bother?
>Nobody cares about comic books, and a tide of positive reputation was kept Superhero movies going. That tide has gone out. The only people who still want to watch them is the same less-than-one-million people who buy comic books.
The stupidest fricking logic I've ever read. Comics were niche by the 2000s, but that didn't stop those movies from making money
How many people read books before Hollywood adaptations?
And if that's the case, how come every anime or manga adaptation bombs horribly in the United States despite supposed superior sales?
I’m not saying that the movies are failing because the comic book audience is small, I’m saying that the movie audience is now settling into the same small population density as the comic audience.
Comics had a huge boom where they became a dominant cultural phenomenon. Now they’re not. Superhero movies are coming down from their boom, and are quickly falling into the same pit of irrelevance.
I could have worded it better.
>Blue Beetle may be a good movie
Except it isn't a good movie. It's a very mediocre movie, which in some ways is actually worse that just being bad.
When a movie succeeds or fails, it almost never has anything to do with the actual movie. Nobody knows if it's good or bad until they see it. What people do know, is the movie that came before it. People are mostly disappointed at the movie making machine that churns out generic super flicks, so when a new one comes out, they respond with "meh".
Bad track record of DC films.
TERRIBLE marketing
Word of mouth is still a thing. Not the biggest part of the movie's success.
I've seen the ads in spanish. They spent millions. They did worse than if they had spent nothing.
Nobody cares about Latinos and neither should you
Finally, someone said it.
no one cares about D-listers... especially if they arent connected to any larger narrative/universe
it also didnt help that it was made for streaming, shit looks cheap like some MaxSteel flick
I care about some D-Lister. But I wouldn't expect a fricking movie on them. There is a reason they are D-lister.
Not an excuse. If GOTG can be frontliners when they had at most a character slot in MVC3 than any character can be A list.
Take Iron Man too, yeah sure comicgay knew him, but he wasn't popular, being a avenger didn't change shit, few people cared, and even less liked him after two civil war. Then the MCU come along and he's the fricking face of Marvel.
>but he wasn't popular,
bait
any character considered popular or well liked from the 1960s-1980s is considered a "classic" character that people are checking for
not even comparable to Jaime Reyes, at all
If normalgays knew him for anything before the MCU it would be his appearances in the MvC in arcades and maybe, MAYBE a couple of his cartoons. Yeah he might have been a big deal in the comics but comic popularity has had almost no bearing on normalgay popularity after the 40s and the few characters who do get popular because of their comics get so solely because their funny memes and nothing else, like Dead "chimichangas!" pool or Squirrel "DID U KNO SHE CAN BEAT UP ANYBODY WITH SQUIRRELS?!?!?" Girl
>but comic popularity has had almost no bearing on normalgay popularity after the 40s and the few characters who do get popular because of their comics get so solely because their funny memes and nothing else, like Dead "chimichangas!" pool or Squirrel "DID U KNO SHE CAN BEAT UP ANYBODY WITH SQUIRRELS?!?!?" Girl
Wolverine alone disproves this.
>Yeah he might have been a big deal in the comics but comic popularity has had almost no bearing on normalgay popularity after the 40s
that's not true, but even so - if they popular or (at the very least, sold moderately well) from the second comic renaissance of the 1960s-1980s - it shows that the core concept is a strong one.
Shang-Chi, for example, hadn't been relevant in recent years because of the inability to reprint his old run due to Fu Manchu rights issues.
That doesn't take away from the fact that Master of Kung Fu was more popular or sold better than any Young Avengers or Blue Beetle book.
Get the difference?
Also Power Girl and Cass
GOTG had several high listers appear with great success, so Marvel felt confident taking a risk. Beetle came out during DCEU's lowest point where they have literally no solidified leads. Warner took a risk with a less known character they couldn't afford.
GotG was at the height of MCU love.
Eternals didn’t become popular. Neither did Modok. Or Shang Chi. Or She-Hulk. Or Kamala Kahn.
Marvel’s biggest successes this phase have been Spider-Man, Dr Strange, and Rocket Raccoon.
>Or Shang Chi
was pretty decent performer during a pandemic
would've made a lot more money if it actually even resembled the source material
>It has a positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Did that ever mean anything?
Latinxs are a minority and Latinos generally dont care about pandering like black Americans would.
Because nobody gives a shot about DC movies, even Marvel is falling apart.
>bb was planned as going direct to streaming
>movie quality is that of direct to streaming
>director is woke and demands theatre release
>we wuz superhero holmes
>no one goes to watch literally who hero in theatre
man I always thought henry ford was a douche bag I guess he was a swell guy all along
the "free market" at work
We need to get rid of the communist stock market and return to capital
>tfw the most positive depiction of Henry Ford in recent years was a Fate gay turning him into an Optimus Prime knockoff
Sad!
This is why Ford hated israelites
He's the worst Blue Beetle, simple as
>c tier hero
>origin story in dear lord of year 2023
Was always doomed to fail.
Considering it was going to do direct to streaming, it’s still better than nothing. And it’s already gaining some legs to at least avoid Shazam 2’s failure.
>And it’s already gaining some legs to at least avoid Shazam 2’s failure.
That was just Cinema Day saving its ass this weekend.
>Why is Blue Beetle bombing?
Because it looked cheap and the trailer offered no interesting hooks
>But muh familia getting into fights alongside the main character and all rising up together
Frick off
Hispanics don't go to the movies. White and black people go to the movies.
Because nobody liked or cared about this 'Superhero' before the film, and the film isn't good enough to get people in on it's own merits as well as being another bloated superhero film at a time when the market is saturated.
Mexicans don't want their own Black Panther. They just want a cool superhero movie of which there has been none since Endgame.
Dragon Ball is Mexico(and Latin America)'s Black Panther.
the frick does that even mean
Until Hollywood can understand what it means, they will never captivate the Latino market.
If Dragon Ball is a Latino's Black Panther, what is Primos then?
No one knows what the frick that is
Primos is TTG
you are a legit moron.
t. seething Hollywood exec
>Goku based on an image of him from a game rather than a scene from manga or anime
Heh
nah, dragon ball is for all nations. arabs and africans go crazy for goku too
That's Chespirito, you moron. It goes like Chespirito>the Simpsons>Dragon Ball in terms of popularity. And they usually overlap in meme culture.
Then there's regional stuff like Condorito and Mafalda.
You're right, how could I forget Chespirito?
Sorry.
I swear DBZ would have solved all racism by now if it wasn't for all the psyops going on.
Capeshit is dying in general, blame Marvel
general audiences spent all their money on spiderbarbenheimer
same reason shazam, black adam, wonder woman 1984, the suicide squad, black adam, shazam 2, and the flash did
no one wants an asylum mcu knockoff when the original is still going
>Why is Blue Beetle bombing?
They made a movie for Latinos and forgot to make the main female character sexy, for those who don't know Bruna Marquezine was called A BUNDA and the director put her in the baggiest pants possible it's as if the producers and the director were disgusted with fat ass. DC is run by idiots, they're making a genre of movie and they don't know who the people are who are going to see it and Blue Beetle alone wouldn't hold the movie together a love interest who was a heroine like Fire would be perfect but they like to lose money
>for those who don't know Bruna Marquezine was called A BUNDA and the director put her in the baggiest pants possible it's as if the producers and the director were disgusted with fat ass
The director is a woke homosexual so there's that.
Jaime gets to frick this
>Jaime gets to frick this
Neymar fricked her in real life... Life isn't fair.
It's strange how much sexier the black little mermaid actress is in other shots as opposed to the movie. Shot of this actress for reference.
Yeah, they literally could have used her for fire.
>It has a positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.
that shit site is literally random garbage. manipulations and fabrications and biases are everywhere
Anon...they don't review anything, they combine all existing reviews to determine a metric.
The movie already don't have much going for it, the lack of com probably was the last nail.
Those homie payed Tom Cruise and Stephen King to try and hype Flash and this movie will have blue-ray in september.
Because no one trusts the DCU anymore.
Oh si, Batman el fascista.
¿Se supone que eso debía servir como buena publicidad?
>he's a C lister
>The DC brand (minus Batman) has a tainted reputation due to multiple bad movies
>capeshit fatigue
Had it come out 5 years ago alongside Aquaman and Wonder Woman it probably would've done pretty well.
It's a movie focused on strong family values, features no LGBTQP+ characters, focuses on a straight same-race relationship, and the only overt political references are essentially jokes from a Dale Gribble-esque Mexican or characters wishing they could have a better life. The white woman villain is also balanced by an unseen benevolent white hero that everyone loves and her race isn't presented as the issue. Sounds pretty based to me.
>but the opposite of all that
The movie is firmly allied with LGBTQ+ creators and seeks to create a safe space for inclusivity by queer coding the protagonist. The overt fascism of the superhero is challenged by an alien force, which signals strong poscolonial themes.
>The movie is firmly allied with LGBTQ+ creators and seeks to create a safe space for inclusivity by queer coding the protagonist.
The protagonist kissed a girl and simped for her.
"Uhhhh but he is bi"
Works for me, straight but bi.
>The overt fascism of the superhero is challenged by an alien force, which signals strong poscolonial themes.
And? Colonialism makes whites cares for brown countries.
This movie had the white woman being at fault for once and getting blamed for colonialism like others did.
It's what happens when the dceu has been producing trash after trash for years on end that blue beetle had everything going against it.
A movie that is "alright" or "pretty good" doesn't necessarily deserve to get a couple hundred million dollars at the box office.
BECAUSE DC IS TRASH.
forget the latinx vs mexicans thing, forget that Blue Beetle is a nobody and forget that Batman comment.
it's all because DC is trash.
Because no one has any clue who the frick Jaime Reyes-Blue Bettle is and marketing certainly didn't do the film any favors.
>marketing certainly didn't do the film any favors.
My god even assuming you have to use the "I think I cut a bus in half" line do it in trailer #1 before showing it happen in trailer #2.
>Because no one has any clue who the frick Jaime Reyes-Blue Bettle
Did anyone know who Hellboy was?
That succeeded due to del Toro and Pearlman.
>no one posting post credits or real leaks
Is this the most successfully secret-kept movie in the last 2 decades?
I have never heard someone in real life say the words "blue beetle".
Just fundamentally, no one outside of capeshit obsessed internet dwellers knows this exists.
>Does it have a chance at redemption like Elemental?
Elemental lost millions of dollars in the end.
That's false, anon.
mexicans acting with gringo humor doesn't work
too big a budget for too small a character. the early marvel movies weren't huge hits with insane budgets they built up but even iron man and captain america were bigger characters than blue beetle
>why is [bad movie] bombing? it has [mainstream media globohomo] support
gee,
No good word of mouth
How is Blue Beetle a tribute to MoS?
No one wants to watch some woke latinx antifa movie. Make good old-fashioned superhero movies about traditional redblooded American hero types.
Just not bothering to actually go the the theater to watch yet another super hero movie. I'm tired.
Why do people care so much that some side character called Batman a fascist? Peacemaker said he was a cuck who eats shit but I don't see any anger at that or anybody who's ever said something bad about him in his own shows or movies. But to answer your question it's a combination of DC having very little credibility outside of Batman, a lot of DC fans only liking Batman and people not knowing who Blue Beetle is. Jaime is probably the most popular Blue Beetle in the modern age but DC didn't think to capitalize more on him with a show years ago, especially if they knew they where going to make a movie about him.
cause it's literally one of the most visible, notable things to come out of the movie due to it being the trailer/commercial.
And they wanted to bring a C List hero no one cares by shitting in currently the only consistently profitable DC Hero.
I mean, Batman is the only cape that actually seems to generate some interest nowadays.
>And they wanted to bring a C List hero no one cares
Booster Gold x Blue Beetle was more popular than your existence
Dead Company Comics
The trailers for Blue Dung Beetle makes it look like a parody of superhero movies. Like they've put all superhero movies from the last decade into a mixer, producing the most generic thing imaginable.
it's an admirable attempt at best but i couldn't be fricking bothered with Blue Beetle if it's not the one in the comics
Marvel did it first did it better and that's the only shit I want to watch; DC still can't fricking do anything past old Batman/Superman films again i see
wokeness has consequences.
I think most white male fans DC used to have, have all given up on the franchise after almost a decade of constant white men bashing woke bs.
This movie hates white women and the white man hero is worshipped as the beacon of hope.
I hate white men bashing too but let's not doomer thing everything is anti us
the movie has zero positive depictions of white men so i don’t know what you are talking about
Latinos aren’t european so not white
Why, are samis white since they came from europe?
Latinos have more white blood than you.
Ted is literally worshipped as the best man ever better than his sister
Please tell me this is from an upcoming Blue Beetle game, and not the actual movie's CGI.
For that someone had to watch it.
Now that you mention it, it does look like a videogame screenshot lol
The average person doesn't know who Blue Beetle is. His name sounds like one of those goofy one-off superheroes from the 1960s. If I had never heard of "Blue Beetle" I would be like "WTF is this shit? a Blankman ripoff or something? no thanks."
Same as Antman?
>Same as Antman?
Ant-Man, the lowest grossing MCU movies? The ones that no normie likes? The one that is propped up entirely by the shared universe? The one they make Whedon-esque jokes at how dumb and silly everything is?
>Suppose to be dc black Panther for Mexicans
>Hire a director with a long history of pissing off Mexicans over them being too religious and traditional
Why would dc do this?
>positive score on Rotten Tomatoes
Site owned by Warnermedia, the producers of the movie
>It has positive word of mouth on Twitter
Fabricated astroturfing
>Double Toasted liked it
lol who?
You
invisible advertising + writers' and actors' stike
They didn't make Jaimes sister hot
Plus that throwaway batman is a fascist line made everyone feel iffy about potential wokeness even though its meant to be a throwaway joke line
Also capeshit fatigue after so many shitty dc movies they thought this would be the same when it really was much better hence why its weekly drop rate is strong from word of mouth
>Why is Blue Beetle bombing?
Why should it succeed?
It's mired in social messaging that's been proven to be unprofitable with general audiences.
>It's mired in social messaging that's been proven to be unprofitable with general audiences.
Like Barbie?
Stupid ass thread. The reasons are very obvious (C-lister+DC in shambles+zero marketing) but you want to make it all about "muh woke, muh chicanos, muh Batman".
What is a "sophomore outing"?
