The Lord of the Rings books were way more popular before the movies came out than Warhammer is now. They were best-sellers. Led Zeppelin, one of the biggest bands of the 1970s, wrote multiple songs referencing those books. Warhammer is a lot more niche, I think.

There are 0 women who like warhammer, even the self-described 'nerd girls.' Its one of the remaining exclusively male hobbies. On top of that, it only appeals to a very small subset of males anyway. It will never appeal to women, unless they show them playing it in an episode of Stranger Things or some contrived dumb nostalgic shit like that.

This is untrue. They are not afraid of Warhammer, they have known about it for decades but it was unfilmable, like fricking orders of magnitude above Lord of the Rings in scale. Only recently has the technology to adapt it become feasible, and GW is sanitizing the setting with Guilliman wank and the gay Primaris helmets. It will eventually be adapted for general audiences, which saddens me as the extreme brutality of the setting was what made it so captivating.

Salamanders and Vulkan are coal black. The population of Nocturne, the Salamanders' primary recruiting world, are of black ethnicity, however. The celestial Lions chapter are also black, and there are likely other chapters recruiting from primarily ethnically-black worlds as well. Plus there's black marines scattered throughout other chapters here and there, like Jonah Orion from the Blood Ravens.

          >I will never stop being mad that turboautists made them literally coal black
You are a lorelet. Salamanders are like that because of a chapter mutation from a feature that modern gw wants to forget. The skin tone of normal space marines should shift from albino to giga black depending on the amount of solar radiation present, but that would apparently offend people. Salamanders' gene for that is borked though so their skin turns dark and stays dark. I think they should really go back to letting 40k have its fricked up future themes than try to appeal to modern politics

They are typically great energy weapons, way more than what they appear on the surface level, everything is 10x overpowered and cranked up to 11 in 40K anon.

In the middle ages people would use maces, warhammers and axes against knights to great effect if the person wielding it was skilled. One famous case was Robert the Bruce before the battle of Bannockburn. He literally split the skull in two of an armored knight who was charging him at full speed, which fricked up his favorite axe. 40k tries to tap into stuff like this, like the whole universe is an 80's metal album cover.

          Anonymous

The entire setting is built around different groups acting moronic for deeply religious or cultural reasons.
Look at the orks. They fight with random pieces of scrap metal because it is 'cooler' than using proper weapons.
Imperials strap 500lbs of random decorations to their armor for the same reasons.

I don't see the problem with this. The Imperium has always had nonwhite people in it (White Scars, Salamanders, the inquisitor and Jonah Orion from DoW), and they literally don't give a frick what race you are as long as you're human and not a mutant or heretic. The Ultramarines recruit from 100 different worlds. Are you trying to suggest that not one of them has black people on it? I hate forced diversity as much as anyone, but a complete lack of black people makes no sense for 40k's setting.

It's a fantasy setting where humanity has settled literally millions of planet and where enough time has passed that many settlements have adapted to their environments and sometimes diverged radically from the standard home sapiens genetics. It makes no sense that a basic mutation like increased melanin in skin wouldn't have occurred on planets with areas with strong UV radiation, just like it did on Earth.

It's not deep or super complicated, but there is a demonstrable shittload of it moreso than any other game ip in that there's a 90 book series and a couple hundred other books built around it. Yes. Discworld is 40 books. Multiverse and Star trek both have over a hundred novels and short stories. Judge dredd has been ongoing since the 70s and has spawned tons of tie in comics set in the same universe.

It's not "deep" but all of its core subjects (of which there is a lot) are all connected to each other. Which makes it hard to talk about one thing without talking about the others if someone has no prior knowledge of any of it.

Emperor definitely overreacted to Xenos. There ARE decent ones humanity could exist with if racial supremacy wasn't Imperium's name of the game. Tau have the sensible approach with this thing as they've federated with dozens of alien species to mutual benefit.

Two dozens conscripts' lives are nothing compared to what is invested in making one Space Marine, who at minimum have been training for twenty years and had thousands of hours invested in making them the best possible soldier.

It depends on the space marine really, some are a couple hundred years old, others are only like 3 or 4 years old. The older ones are typically gonna take a hell of a lot more to take out obviously

This is just absurd. Every story has a protagonist, they just aren't constrained to a kind of simplistic dualism like Star Wars. I genuinely don't see how someone could look at one of the better examples of lore and rule it out as wholly immature or whatever. There are immature elements to be sure but that's also one of the things that makes 40k fun. An 8 ft demigod with a chain sword fighting space elves is at least as mature as something like Stargate, just cranked up to fricking 11 on the elements that make it cool to see or imagine.

Sure but the good thing about science fiction is that stories can be quite layered. Most episodes of say Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits and etc could be very simplistic, but some had more to chew on and weren't these boring, drawn out events like in Star Trek. Different perspectives can be taken and jt gets people talking and asking different questions potentially.

You shouldn't underestimate the empathy and etc of low-IQ plebs in the audience. Many of them would enjoy a Long Night adaption or other such 40k story if it was part of a TV series, even if they may struggle to articulate their feelings or whatever impressed them from watching it. There is room for such science fiction even in our era. Perhaps not made by Amazon but still.

that's more because night lords ended up being forgotten while being one of the more intriguing traitors. they're essentially with chaos only because it's convenient narratively that all space marine traitor are with chaos. otherwise, night lords are renegades who barely tolerate chaos nonsense and should've went their own separate ways altogether.

The setting can not be a film. It is meant to enhance a story. This is why game movies fail, they do not realize setting before story is a losing tactic.

Ideally they could do a pre-Indomitus story like this, just to set the stage and make a great impression on the masses. Then something with the Lion returning and meeting up with rowboat for the second season, Chadvill steps in as an augmented, long-lived Inquisitor type who becomes the main character for the following seasons.

Its an absurdly complex setting with its own little touches on basically everything in it. Either you have to have a 10 minute long title scroll explaining everything (you cant for obvious reasons) or you need to throw the viewer in balls deep and do show don't tell, have them learn things about the universe by experiencing them. This also will not work though because the people large corporations want to appeal to are like your annoying sister who constantly goes "whos that what does that mean whats happening" every five minutes because their brain is too rotted to actually pay attention and process things that aren't explicitly told to them, thats why movies and shows nowadays all have scenes where someone just sits the protagonist down and explains everything while repeatedly quipping about how crazy it is to keep the viewer from zoning out, or why moody scenes or entire movies always have muted colors to try and force emotions out of people, or villains nowadays are stereotypes of people in real life and always talk in ominous ways accompanied by "evil music", etc.

A series with no real good or bad guys (game of thrones doesnt count you know damn well it doesnt), in a universe where people's thoughts, motivations, and lifestyles are completely different to ours, with its own vast history, billion different cultures and subcultures, intricacies, dialects, etc (dont forget that you also need to keep track of who knows what since fascism) doesnt sell to idiots

Warhammer is a franchise where you look at a big dude with slightly different colored armor, look them up, and they have like 5 full length in universe books about them you need to read to understand them. It is for people who are such nerds they need to go absolutely balls deep researching long esoteric history books about events and places that do not actually exist.

It is not a very large audience.

part of the reason it had so much depth was for the first twenty years stuff was just added on by the painting team in the studio as they painted their own armies and played games in the office. Like the coloring conventions for ultramarine Pauldrons or the fact that one company of Dark angels was white armored. Just dudes in the office.

            Real answer?
White is the hardest color to paint with acrylic paints, the chemicals in white pigments make it chalky or not cover well. You have to build up over half a dozen layers at minimum to an true white highlight, either from a brown or blue grey depending on if you want a cool tone or warm tone.

Its super fricking hard to look good and takes too long for a full army. The primary marine chapters all use easy to use pigments (besides Iron hands)

              Anonymous

ah, I haven't played 40k table top yet but appreciate this anon. Definitely would have wanted a color scheme with white. It often looks so good in artwork.

                Anonymous

I think with some of the contrast paints and newer brands of primer and shit out there is is getting easier to do yellows and whites. I think one of the contrast is a very light blue grey you can throw on white to make it look good and AK interactive has a very smooth white iirc

So what your saying is if im playing 40k and i just paint a guy a certain color he would be stronger than if i painted him a different color?

            Anonymous

Yes basically, there's specific rules for specific companies and ranks that are denoted with your painting scheme. If you're playing Blood Angels and paint a squad with an inverse color scheme black with red details rather than red with black details, you're painting a Death company squad which has different rules than normal because some GW dude wanted a cool looking squad with some flavor and special backstory in his army. This is played up for laughs with Orks where these kitbashing homebrew stuff where explained as the Orks having a special ability in the settingbwhere tech that wasn't supposed to work did and different painting schemes gave units special powers, entirely because the Orks thought it did.

Why the frick do people want Hollywood to go anywhere near their favourite things? They turn everything into slop and always have. It's not new.
In fact, if I was a black lesbian woman I'd be furious with Hollywood for how badly they've set my people back. For the morons of Cinemaphile, this is not an endorsement.
Hollywood reduces everything down to the level that the average American can understand. Their movies retain none of meaning or beauty of the actual stories they try to tell.
Keep Hollywood away from every IP, heartwarming story and historical event that exists.

40K is universe a filled with an extremely intense amount of racism, prejudice, and religious fanaticism. GW won't approve of anything Hollywood does with it that tries to sugarcoat those aspects. All of the above coupled with the brutal and hopeless nature of the setting means it doesn't have much mass people.
On top of that, any project would have to have a pretty fat budget if it's not going to be fully animated, a very high amount of special effects work would be needed to convey the grandiose nature of its settings.
There's also a lot of details about the lore that can be important for understanding what's going on but trying to explain those things in cinema without leaning too hard into constant exposition would be difficult.
