Real answer: James Gunn made the idiotic decision to say that every movie from Shazam onwards was not canon anymore thus this whole connected universe model they have been pushing backfired on them since people then think "why the frick should I bother watching this anymore". Gunn should have kept things ambiguous.
No, if anything they didn’t go far enough. They should have gone scorched earth and gotten rid of all the DCEU actors. Rebooting the universe and then keeping the actors is going to confuse people. The whole idea of a full reboot is to start a clean slate, you can’t do that when the movie is starring a guy who was in the old shit that you’re trying to get people to forget.
It seems to only be happening for Mamoa and to be fair he is probably the best choice for Lobo and should have always been him. Aquaman was a diversity miscast
