Lighting takes time. Films these days are made so fast that they can't worry about lighting, so it's either even lighting to see everything or "natural lighting" out of easiness of setting up the set.

2. digital cameras have higher sensibility, so now DOPs are trained to light with much less gear
3. with HDR grading, colorists like to grad in the lower end of the spectrum, which looks bad in a SDR monitor
4. bad aesthetic trends
