Yeah
Because hindsight. The benefits of adaptations are that you can trim the fat and make practical or inspired changes to deliver a stronger story.
It was focused a lot more on providing a moody, neo-gothic atmosphere than being cool shit for cool shit's sake.
It's better writing, but holy shit they destroyed one of the best moments in the comic for a "heroes DON'T kill" bullshit moment.
I think he was defying Clown/Violator when he refused to kill him the show. But he had already killed tons of people so maybe it had more to do with the context of having Cyan around and not killing him in front of a child.
Hellblazer would be better deserving of an HBO cartoon than Spawn of all things. Tastes really were that shit in the late 90s.
The difference is that Todd actually gave a shit about animation
The only thing Todd cares about is money which is why he was smart enough to prostitute the crap out of spawn while it was riding high
If that were the case he would've outsourced him to a bunch of different companies and there'd be 10 Spawn movies already, casual
wrong
he cares about art >>> story >> business
in that order
the end result proves you wrong
Not really, It's a Image property that's trying to present itself as an adult cartoon.
it's about as adult a cartoon as it gets
if you think it's appropriate to show to a child you're not a good parent
It is adult. Not because of the violence per se but the themes and the world itself.
Invincible on the other hand is "young-adult" despite also featuring just as much if not more violence.
It's about as adult as any other HBO property back then. Probably more mature honestly.
>It's about as adult as any other HBO property back then. Probably more mature honestly.
Not even. Reruns of Tales from the Crypt were more mature.
When it comes to mature content there is no "more or less". You could say the Sopranos is mature while also being, say, realistic, whereas Spawn isn't. But Spawn is also closer to the Sopranos than Harley Quinn's animated show. And the reason for that is pretty simple. Drama is inherently R-rated. The world of Sopranos and Spawn cannot be PG to begin with if you translate them faithfully to the screen.
You could make something like "Adventures of Spawn" but that's a subversion of the full story.
Absolutely not, I love HBO Tales of the crypt, I've loved it since I was 3 years old, rewatch it regularly every 2-3 years, but it's telling that I could watch it as a kid. Almost every episode is camp, the darkest one being the war episode Kirk Douglas did. Most of the show was a way for the actors to goof off and act in a more camp, corny way than they could in more serious movies.
Muh Wanda!
Yawn.
Oh lord, the weird and wonderful things Wanda did to me when I was a lad.
for me it's Tony Twist's strippers but I don't have a screencap on me
They took the nonsense from the comic that didn't really work and cut it out
also Todd really isn't much of a writer
>They took the nonsense from the comic that didn't really work and cut it out
I would say it still doesn't work because they clearly didn't have the budget to do action scenes and the show feels like it drags on because of it.
