We have this thread a lot. Blame the government. They destroyed private investment here in lieu of trying to entice foreign productions to shoot here. Now virtually all film funding here is from the government and the people that run the funding bodies are talentless old wine aunts and homosexual boomers.

Punched above their weight from the 70s-00s, average till now and israeliteywood is getting their claws in, they got Disney studios in Sydney after fox buyout and Warner Bros in Brisbane.

Some great directors Peter Weir, Rolf da heer, Alex Proyas, Phil Noyce. Baz Luhrmann even if hes a gay.

Everyone should check out Romulus, My Father and Alvin Purple.

Constitutional referendums are extremely hard to pass, they're designed to be like that. It was a long shot before Sky news managed to turn half the country against it.

Not really possible in our country. Smaller population, compulsory voting, identity and district requirements makes fraud very detectable. Not to say they won't ever try it, but it won't be for this of all things.

When one party controls the entire system, they can do pretty much whatever they want. These pricks count their own votes, it's as easy as telling a lie.

AEC controls voting not the government, and no government has the balls to interfere with it. The uproar on both sides would condemn them to opposition for decades.

Yes has like 3x the money of No and are pouring it all into a blitz for the next two weeks. All they need to do is make up the lost ground, No is only like 50% of the vote.

Elon Musk crunched the numbers and discovered that every yes vote sacrifices 1000 babies to Moloch and even a 38% national count of Yes will irreversibly overthrow white government and commit all female citizens to devoting their time to pleasuring Aboriginal penises. This is 100% true even Anthony Mundine admits it.

It's because only countries with internal cultural conflict can produce art. Australia is life on easy-mode, we have high salaries, universal healthcare, cheap universities, etc. You can easily get a tradie job and earn $100k a year with an annual trip to Bali with the missus by the time you're 25.

We have no real issues, so our cultural products stagnate, reflecting the lack of tension we feel day to day. It's the same reason why Canada and Switzerland don't make great art.

Countries where there's deep inequalities, social-disturbances, etc create genuine angst and disgruntlment, like the US, Ireland, Korea, Japan, which is manifested in their art.

It isn't because of any of that shit we have plenty of stories to tell It's because of screen australia basically they hold the keys to the kingdom on which projects get government funding or tax breaks. So yeah unless you insert leftists stuff into your film you don't get funding. That's why every film from a home grown director here is weird as frick social critique on australian life with leftist themes.

      >but anon what about russel crowe or eric bana's aussie films
they aren't home grown they went to hollywood and became famous actors that way so now after being a famous actor in like a dozen films yeah you have enough money and clout to come home and make a one off passion project which is funded by american's

Most of the prisoner population was killed in WWI, and a bunch more was wiped out in the second. The current Australian population is more a legacy of gold rush immigration than convict deportation, except in Tasmania.

They have so many kino actors that play Americans better than the actual Americans in whatever they're in
    ex:
    Hugh Jackman
    Ben Mendelsohn
    Antony Starr

Because most Australians with talent would rather move to America and make a lot of money than stay here and make no money.
