Why is it that nobody cried and shat their pants when TNG did the musical thing, but now suddenly we have to have star trek be all serious business?

Nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun.

    >random song-fragment that develops a character a bit, or serves some dramatic purpose (e.g. Q caused it, what an butthole!)
    versus
    >premise of an entire episode is that it is like a broadway musical, every cast member gets a solo in an original composition, and the whole thing is promoted like a publicity stunt
even without going into the merits of the one and the merits of the other, and whether you like them or not, you have to acknowledge that these are two fundamentally different things

The nutrek shill can’t even grasp that what they’re calling Star Trek now is fundamentally different from what Star Trek is.

this was not in an episode and was meant as an out-of-character gag. you could have used a screenshot from the episode where fake Picard sings Heart of Oak or when the real Picard sings A British Tar in Insurrection but no you knew what you were doing

the occasional goof episode was acceptable under these conditions

It might have been, yes, but as others have already said, OP is being disingenuous (quelle surprise):

Hey, if you want to get offended when someone corrects a misconception you have, that's fine. What matters is that no one else who enters this thread is going to believe the bullshit OP is attempting to peddle.

                Wrong again, homosexual.

Here's more debunking of your debunking:
                https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Talk:TNG_Season_5_DVD

Good luck finding Picard dancing with a straw hat and cane while singing 'A' You're Adorable in any of the episode descriptions (Memory Alpha has detailed descriptions of every episode of every Star Trek series, so if it happened in an episode, it'd be easy to prove it).

I think it's a cameo from sesame street. Picard was a cultural icon for Americans. a Brit playing a Frenchman becoming so popular he is invited to teach some alphabet to kids... really makes you think.

Oh, we all know Star Trek has changed. It was good, it's changed, and now it's shit.

Yeah it changed from idealistic speculative fiction to The Love Boat with Buffy episodes made by millennials that don't understand why the Buffy episode worked in the first place.

The buffy episode “worked” because it was hot girls dancing.

Because back then seasons had more episodes.
Having 10ep season with 1 advertising for a cartoon and 1 shitty musical piece is a fricking waste of episode.

I still laugh about the time they included a character from short treks in a season finale of STD and literally no one had any idea who the character was or what she was from.
