Because Cinemaphile would literally want all cartoons to just be porn if they could the plot is always optional unless the plot is involving characters fricking in which case it's mandatory

Cartoons are made for children, and you are an adult now.

Was there anything wrong with the writing in Hazbin, besides it having swearing and gay people which pisses off the totally-not-election-refugee parts of Cinemaphile?

It does bad edgy like demons and heresy and gay people and curse words, and not good edgy like racial slurs and repeating my conservative Christian politics

Why would they have conservative Christian politics in hell?

The sub plots and pacing are all terrible, the entire concept falls apart because it’s not actually about reforming sinners to go to heaven

someone on here a while back that all of these cartoons are more or less just cartoons for children with random swearing and violence shoved in to make it "look adult", and it all started clicking for me. These people just want to make childrens media, but realize that looks strange, so they Edgy the Hedgehog the shit and try to pass it off as material "for adults".

There's a lot of reasons. I'm going to guess a few and some I think are true, and a couple of these are just speculation.

    1. Studios are breathing down crew's backs way more than the 90's. If you ever listen to a veteran in ANY entertainment field who got their start between the 70's and 90s, they all talk about how bad it is today. Filmmakers mention the freedom in the 70s, game developers talk about freedom in 80s, cartoonists about it in the 90's.

    2. Cartoon writing groups feel much more insular. Gag-driven cartoons of the 90's often had people pitching their boards, doing some of the voices, really getting into the spirit of things. Script-driven cartoons had a huge range of inspiration. I don't think modern production has people getting up to tell their boards story but just rendering a QT and submitting it to their bosses. Modern script-driven shows also feel like they're inspired by the same five anime shows that everyone on staff already loves.

    3. Most of these people are cartoonists first and don't have a big interest in improving their writing craft. If you look at even some old sitcom writers, they were often aspiring comedians. Now-a-days, it's just some buddies telling jokes that are only funny to them and they assume will be funny to everyone else.

    4. People worked for A WHILE before getting a show-- and not just his own stuff, but other people's visions. Craig McCracken spent years in various departments really honing his craft before getting a shot at a cartoon. Now it's like, oh, you were a board artist for one big cartoon? Sure, we'll take a look at your pitch bible. Some people only ever work on their own projects before making some Netflix deal. How the frick can you know if you're good or bad if the only stuff you've read is your own?

Accurate. Cause when I look at viv, I see potential within her writing of ideas that she and part of her staff wish to bring out but it's done with poor execution. Not to mention most of the people she's working with are still somewhat testing out the waters so its best to hire those who have more experience within their fields to supervise them so they can know what choices to make and what mistakes to avoid that can cause a series to plummet within views

I don't believe this, there's a reason certain things are remembered for being good even 20 years later, and even modern things as well

Because nobody reads. Harlan Ellison was talking about this problem a long time ago. The main issue with newer writers, comedic or otherwise, is that very few had a proper background in literature. They watched plenty of TV or dozens of movies, but hardly read fiction/non-fiction whether it be popular stories, acclaimed classics, history, mythology, religious texts, folklore, or even plays and film scripts.

And plenty of people on Cinemaphile can say they want to be writers but haven't cracked open a script or a book in years.

not to mention they haven't actually done anything in their lives. How can you write with no real world experience. Everything they write is a 3rd generation regurgitation of what they already saw

That's also the other problem: a LOT of modern writers are very boring people who don't really do anything but live hyper-consumerist lives watching TV and movies, buying expensive things, and bragging/whining about things that don't actually affect them. Total arrested development, nothing but spoiled/sheltered/privileged living from the day they were born.

The only people who kinda have interesting lives would be working-class folks but because they don't have the money to live in rich insulated areas like LA, they literally cannot afford to take up a job writing for the entertainment business. Only rich kids can, but because they're spoiled babies, they have no incentive or motivation to really do anything or want anything. And barring that, they're afraid to show any humanity thanks to meta/irony/whedonspeak/quip culture shit poisoning the well.

The majority of great writing is born of conflict. These people have never had a real issue in their whole lives

Not just conflict, but tension too! The more spoiled and sheltered and atomized you are, the further you are removed from tension and interpersonal conflict. You grow to become egocentric and focused only on the Self. You cannot effectively create fictional conflict or tension if you yourself have no experience or comprehension with it, let alone the ability to release and de-escalate tension.

It's why a lot of newer writers jerk off Japanese manga/anime for "not having conflict" and copy it only to frick it up...because Japanese fiction STILL HAS CONFLICT, the only difference is that it's structured differently (kishotenketsu: examples being the 4-koma), specifically that it isn't Obstacle vs Intent-centric. Most manga and anime have more in common with Sunday comics!
