Because they decided to eat the story alive on a meta out of canon show rather than trust the story and adapt it faithfully for this current generation

When tlfans did have a discussion it was about how bad it was, why the frick did they went full moron and a ot of whine about the creatives with a side sprinkles of fanfic and some discussion of the characters in the old stuff, not gonna lie people are still fans of this to this day and still like it despite how corny it is
There wasn't much to discuss, and what was discussed was done organically to its logical conclusion, then extended by people with bad tate that want to fap to this art style for about a whole month after all real discussion ended
When it comes to discussion sometimes dead is better, if you want to fap just go to /aco/ or beg/pay for a commission or fiddle with AI slop, who knows maybe some artist will provide you some material for funsies just because they are cool like that

Any show that drops ALL its episodes at once is bound to have this happen tbh. Everyone's always hyped for something like Stranger Things and talks about it like crazy, but since all episodes are released at once it gets a month of conversation before it dies out. It's nice for bingers but it genuinely kills the longevity of the show's interest.
