The Disney comics about Mickey can be pretty cool, when they play more into him being a detective. Duck family has the world-wide adventure stuff on lockdown, and Scrooge's enemies are more on silly side, so Mickey's stuff can be more grounded. They also occasionally play Pete being career criminal who's trying to go clean.

Easy to see why AGM had so much love put into it. Disney MovieToons in Paris only made 1 film before, and it had been a long while since it came out. They only worked on TV episodes from several shows between Lost Lamp and AGM.
MovieToons had people from WDAS at the helm of Goofy Movie (Kevin Lima, Brian Pimental, Gregory Perler), unlike in Lost Lamp.
Literally, thanks to the failure of that Ducktales movie, the Goofy movie existed.

For some reason, I became a huge fan of Pete recently. Sure I think he's sexy, but I also like him in terms of his character. I feel like he's more complex than he's usually given credit for. He's more than a villain or even the town bully or scoundrel. He can be sweet on occasion, and he's not always a lummox like his appearance would suggest. I also like the fact that his design is subject to the whims of any artist who draws him, even moreso than Goofy and Mickey and especially Donald.
As an artist myself, he's one of my many muses, and he's one of my favorite fictional characters of all. Not my favorite villain or even Disney character, just one of my favorite characters in general. Cats just make great characters! So do dogs, hence Goofy.

Jim Cummings is great. His voice is perfect for Pete, rough and deep but with a dopiness to it.
Yeah I mean it's good of course, but he sounds more like a cartoon character than a person, which was why I always found the swedish voice in GT to sound so threatening since it's got more of a real-life setting (he has a more cartoony voice in most other dubbed depictions).

Timeskip. There’s a reason for most of these stuff. Waffles and Chainsaw probably passed, Peg left with Pistol for obvious reasons, Goofy/Pete moved out of Spoonerville and ended up next to each other again…

What do you expect of him? He’s a father, this isn’t like the Musketeers AU where he’s relatively high-up, in a normal setting the fat c**t is a normal guy. He was never particularly smart.
But he is a persistent schemer who is ambitious to a fault. There is NO way Pete from GT would be okay being a wagie photographer working WITH Goofy, a person he couldn't stand being neighbors with.
I imagine he’d get used to it. He has kids, kids that aren’t easy when one is a timid sack of shit and the other is insane, and he’s like 40 by GT, probably 45-50 by the movies. He was on the football team for school and sucked at that by the sounds of it, is a schemer but not so much the academic school so his grades were likely average and he begrudgingly had to take what he could get. Not sure if it was said if he had many friends but with his personality I’d say not, Goof was probably the best he could get.

That's just not how I see Pete. His fatal flaw is never settling and admitting he would consider Goofy a friend. That would need its own 2 hour movie

In regards to Goof Troop, I think Pete will go to his grave telling sweet nothings to his family and scamming the world for every cent
I can see it I suppose. I always thought he was nicer in GT, definitely not nice but also not a criminal, more straight-laced. I think he does have some genuine love for his family, I do think that deep down he wanted to help PJ become more like him and it’s likely that he was just continuing the cycle of what he likely had to go through as a kid too except while PJ feels bad about himself Pete fell into that way of thinking.
He had his moments, but overall he was always out for himself.

DuckTales film and A Goofy Movie are quite interesting in hindsight.
Hard to believe this film actually exists. It's so different from the other theatrical 2D Disney films not made by Feature Animation (Ducktales film, Doug's 1st Movie, The Tigger Movie, Recess School's Out, Return to Neverland, The Jungle Book 2, Piglet's Big Movie, Teacher's Pet, Pooh's Heffalump Movie)

Peg is really hard to get right for most artists. How the frick does her design filter so many artists?
She's a typical Disney "dog person" with skin but you cant make her look too human otherwise it's uncanny, too anthro and she just looks off and furry
A lot of her appeal is also in subtle things like the hair flow and anatomy, details coom artists either do poorly or forget about

Goof Troop Pete is a decent man. He is not a shady criminal, he is not a villain, he’s just self-centered and kind of a moron. I believe in him.
