why is Punisher so hard to put to screen? He's just an angry guy with a gun.

I hope they get a S. Craig Zahler or a Gareth Evans to do the next one. Recasting is a must too, the chick lit Punisher they have now is just embarrassing.

They have to figure out a way to make him lighthearted and goofy so his female sidekick can be the straightman. We cannot let straight white conservatives like him.

Because disney and American media companies in general refuse to accept that much of the violent crime in this country at a street level is not committed by whites, especially in inner cities, which means punisher has to attack white collar and corrupt white officials instead of drug dealers and shooters. Combine this with NY no longer being the murder capital like Chicago is now and like NY was in the 80s it becomes tough to do a Death Wish type of story. THEN add in that liberals are b***hes that are obsessed with getting rid of guns so they hate all things that glorify them.

Then there’s also this: because everything they make is about how women are the real tough guys and tough guys are just begging to be sidekicks to strong women.

Because he's not a good person and Hollywood wants good guys in their stories. Chuck Dixon had a point where if you want adapt the Punisher, you have to contend with the fact that the character would be killing poor gangbanging blacks and other minorities. Shit like the Netflix show don't work because they try too hard to paint him as a morally good guy by having him kill almost exclusively MIC soldiers and goons.

He's a character written for a certain time period and doesn't work well on the sliding timescale. The NYC that Punisher Franked people in just doesn't exist anymore and no amount of greenscreens can recapture it.

Tell me you’re a zoomer without telling me you’re a zoomer. The City is less safe than it was a few years ago but it’s much better than it used to be (when the Punisher was created).

In the 70s, 80s and early 90s NYC was a hell hole. This is why Giuliani became so beloved even before 9/11. Under him and stop & frisk/broken window theory New York became safer.

It really sucks how he went insane. I remember when he was on SNL.

I listened to an interview with the director of Punisher: War Zone and she flat-out admitted that she had no previous experience with comics but just tried to adapt the tone of the Ennis run as best she could. It made me feel a lot more sympathetic to her, like a mom who doesn't know shit about video games but was doing her best to get the "best" one as a Christmas present for her kid.

It always sounds dumb and immature to just say "just get a comic books fan to direct the film," but I honestly think it would help. Otherwise, even someone trying their best is going to fall short.

there's only been like four people that knew how to use him to tell good stories. we don't need more movies or shows that would just miss the point or try to reinvent the character

Trumpies like him and Marvel just can't allow that. On a greater scale it is hard to put the Punisher on screen, Ennis Frank ESPECIALLY. Mainstream audiences can't cheer for a man who (maybe) uses his family's death as an excuse to experience the bloodlust he did back in Vietnam.

I hated Aaron’s run for explicitly having a character state this. Pic related.

        War Zone was good.
The first "MCU" ones is surely better than most of mcus
