The director / creator of Chucky is a homosexual. I won't deny that his movies were pure kino, but the show is a slog to get through just for one or two genuinely good Chucky moments per season.

Don Mancini is one of those creepy gay guys who covets male youth. It’s always been a subtext in the Child’s Play movies but he hasn’t ever had the creative control that he’s been afforded for the Chucky show. Instead of tamping down his gross obsession with male youth like production did with the movies, he’s been given free reign because he’s part of resistance to Donald Trumps fascism and gay men must now be allowed to openly groom boys in order to own the chuds

        From a 2020 Screenrant article
        >While the first film’s premise seems to revolve around consumerist culture and the difficulties of single parenthood, Don Mancini revealed that it's so much more than that. Underneath that messaging, it's about his personal struggles as a gay man, his family dynamic, and loneliness. As the franchise headed into the 2000s, it became more apparent that Chucky was destined to become an LGBTQ icon; his films are queer-coded slasher movies unlike any other.

It isn’t a made up homophobic reaction. Mancini openly talks about his intent with the series.

When? There are gay middle schoolers, but there hasn't been a whole lot of fricking. At least between the children on the show. Chucky fricks hard. And in multiple bodies.

Although that by itself is weird to me. Just on an aesthetic level, it's strange to have a bunch of kids running around in their coming of age story quickly cutting to a scene of Jennifer Tilly and Brad Dourif's daughter hardcore fricking and slitting people's throats. I mean, sure, Stranger Things features a sweet little coming of age story about middle school kids on bikes as well as adult romance and very tame sex scenes on occasion, but goddamn. The contrast is jarring on Chucky.

No one said anything about that except you. Coveting male youth and forming friendships with young men is an incredibly well known thing that gay men do. It doesn’t mean they’re kid touchers but it is creepy as hell. Don’t take my word, all you have to do is search “Don Mancini child’s play gay” and you’ll get a ton of articles from mainstream publications confirming this, often with direct quotes from Don.
            From Out magazine in 2021
            >Like in his earlier movies, Mancini is pushing new narratives and identities for his characters in Chucky. His protagonist, Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur), is a 14-year- old gay boy and doll collector who finds Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) at a yard sale. As expected, there's plenty of gore as the bodies of bullies and other townsfolk start piling up. Mancini is as excited about the storyline of young Jake discovering and exploring his sexuality as he is about the affirmation that type of representation on the screen can bring.

From the Philadelphia Enquirer in 2022
            >So, if you’re looking for something fun, scary, and fabulous this Halloween, try the Child’s Play series. Yes, the Queer series about a workaholic but spiritual father to a gender-fluid child and husband to a movie star that mentors LGBTQ+ youth and works with people with disabilities. Oh, and uses his lil’ doll hands to strangle people.

Watch some of the interviews with Mancini and the teenage cast where the main character and his love interest talk about having their first same sex kiss onscreen and how wonderful and empowering it was even though they’re not gay. Mancini is there in the interview praising their fearlessness and willingness to tongue each other. That’s fricking weird. Would it be fine for a 60 year old straight man to write and direct scenes where two young teenage girls kiss or would be that person be pilloried as a creep?

Generally I think "grooming" has become a meaningless buzzword these days, but season 1 of this show has weird subtext. Like, I don't think it's just Cinemaphile breaking my brain here. Like there's the whole Chucky origin subplot with Chucky learning to be a murderer from an older serial killer when he's a little kid. Then the next time we see him, he's an adolescent and reading Peter Pan to three little boys and he takes them out to a remote location to see a dead body and two of them panic and flee, but one shows tentative interest and Chucky then starts giving him gifts and teaching him to be a murderer. If you substitute all the murder shit for Chucky pulling out his dick or something, It plays shot for shot like a public service video you would show kids to warn them about the concept of sexual grooming.

I say this as an openly bisexual man who was never molested and think /misc/ is spewing bullshit 99.99% of the time. But the Charles Lee Ray subplot in this show reads like /misc/ made it up. If I were a conservative pundit looking to create some kind of alarmist over the top show on purpose just so I could point to it on youtube to convince boomers that the gays were coming for their kids, this is the show I would make. I think Mancini might be a bit of a weirdo

I’m specifically talking about DM, not the entire LBGT community. When I say he’s grooming boys, I mean that writing and directing scenes where two young, teenage, male heterosexual actors are made to kiss each other while telling them it’s perfectly normal is creepy. This isn’t anti-gay /misc/posting btw, DM has Chucky promo interviews on camera where he talks about how wonderful it is that the younger generation is so progressive that two young straight boys will kiss each other with no qualms and the boy actors agree with him. He’s telling kid actors whom he has power over as the showrunner to engage in homosexual acts on screen. That's fricking weird

Chuckie wasn't about the gays, until the fifth film (seed of chucky) and IIRC DM had to do the film on a reduced budget/film in fricking Romania because tthe studio didn't want the Glenn or Glenda non-binary shit with Chuckie and Tiffany's kid and also why it took so long to get another film after Bride of Chucky revived the franchise.

Seed flopped so hard the franchise was dead for about a decade and by the time DM was able to get it resurrected, he had to wholesale abandon most of the plot threads from Bride/Seed and their comedy tones and go back to grim dark shit and even then, the films were direct to video.

            >the Glenn or Glenda non-binary shit with Chuckie and Tiffany's kid
Are people actually accusing that movie of trying to push the non-binary maymay? 2004 was hundreds of thousands of Internet years before non-binary was invented. I laughed pretty hard when Chucky said he had a genderfluid kid in this. It was a legitimately funny joke because trying to spin that movie as somehow being queer affirming is so ridiculous on its face.

Dourif really sold that line, too. Something about his delivery made it sound like he understood exactly what the joke was. Maybe I'm projecting things onto him because I've watched him play such an off-color douche bag character for my entire life, but I feel like Dourif is probably a down to earth kind of guy who sees how silly Hollywood has become in the last 15 years.

If anyone has evidence to the contrary, I don't want to see it. I want to maintain my image of Dourif being one of the good ones

            >Mancini stated that when he looks back on the film, the fact that he made Karen a single mother—and left Andy without a father—was his subconscious inclusion of his own experience as a gay man, and the complex relationship he had with his own father. By not giving Andy a father figure, Mancini wrote in a narrative of loneliness and the desire to have someone to relate to when an individual is rejected by a family member for something like being gay. As the franchise progressed, Mancini embraced his identity as a gay man, and included queer icons such as Jennifer Tilly (Bride Of Chucky) in leading roles. While the conscious effort of including queerness in the franchise did not exist until the release of Bride Of Chucky, the subconscious inclusion of queer subtext in 1988 was integral in establishing its future. One of the later installments, Seed of Chucky, brought LGBTQ issues more to the forefront by including a gender-fluid character: Chucky and Tiffany's child, Glen (Glenda).
The series has always been gay.

IIRC the first episode, the lead character buys old dolls and chops them up to use in his artsy fartsy art projects/sculptures along with restoring them and reselling them, since his dad is a worthless drunk who can barely get off the couch to work his dead end low paying job.

They were in 8th grade in season 1, which should make them 16 in the current season. If I was writing the story I wouldn't touch the subject with a stolen dick, but realistically if two 16 year old males who have been in a committed relationship for two years haven't at least progressed to blowing each other, it's an unrealistic depiction of 16 year old males.

I started watching this show for the first time this week, and I don't know if it's just because Cinemaphile has primed me for it for three years, but there have a been a few moments that stuck out.

I can only think of two, I know there more but I'm writing this post on sleeping pills. Someone already mentioned the Charles Lee Ray flashbacks, but another was when Chucky is killing the kid at the party before the house fire. It looked weirdly like doggy style. I remember thinking it seemed like a weird way to block the shot. It's not visually compelling and there are countless more interesting ways to film Chucky killing somebody.

Another was in the first or second episode when Jake is standing in his bedroom. He has a pedestrian crossing sign hung on his wall, but from our point of view all you can read is "pedestr", with the last three letters covered up by a rainbow flag. At first I was like why does this kid have a sign that says "pederast"

Chuck possessing Nica and becoming a trans lesbian was the last interesting thing the series has done. It was especially entertaining because of the meta context of Fiona Dourifs character being possessed by her father Brad Dourifs character and her doing an impression of Brad’s Chucky. That was kino and the stupid show ruined it
