Do you know how they'll die? Everyone dies, the question is how. On the topic of Rome, I don't know why you keep bringing that up. Rome fell like 400-1500 years after (depending on your definition). The show isn't about Rome as a setting, Rome is just a backdrop for the characters and as such it isn't an important narrative device. The problem with anything Star Wars pre-Disney Wars is that the end destination is clear. So for example, Thrawn's rebellion will amount to nothing because it cannot be any other way as the First Order begins almost immediately post- SW6. See the narrative problem in this?

They had plenty of chances and they are never going to give up the ghost on the Disney Trilogy. That's a very wishful thinking scenario though. Han is charismatic, but so are Leia and Luke in their own way. Each represents a type, cynical (Han), mean (Leia), naive (Luke). And each grows to become trusting (Han), kind (Leia), and worldly/ wise (Luke). It’s a simple fable with quality arcs and all 3 pull it off well.

None of that makes him an interesting character. He's not terrible, but you could put him in the ocean of protagonist dudes from 2000s games and he wouldn't stand out. I'll grant you that by the end of the second game he starts becoming interesting, but that's 1/4 of his existence.
