Journalist is a mundane enough job to blend in while also allowing him to be out of the office, potentially investigating areas where crimes occurred and gathering information so he can track down the culprit
If he was a full-time office worker at a desk he wouldn't have many chances to leave

Enough money for what? He's Superman. He literally needs nothing but sunlight and that's free. If he ever needs money, he can just crush coal into diamonds and sell them.

Last I heard, Lex Luthor owned the Planet. But Jimmy Olson was blackmailing him into funding it but otherwise keeping his hands off.
Originally, Clark became a reporter to get immediate access to breaking stories through wire services so he could save the day. Sort of obsolete in this internet age.

There's a web-comic (Love and Capes) where the Superman-analog is a tax accountant with his own business. So long as the work gets done, he doesn't have to be there 9 to 5 or account for his time to anyone.

It’s a job that allows him to “disappear” for hours on end as long as he turns in his articles on time, same as Peter Parker taking photos. A doctor wouldn’t work because Clark would be fired or sued for missing appointments because he was off saving people.

    >earn a decent living
    >work with lois
I know journalism has a bad rep but the Daily Planet was shown to be run with integrity so there's also Clark exposing the truth to the public which is another perk. It's a job that's perfectly suited for a hero that can and needs to be anywhere.

He worked as TV anchor in the 70s. It didn't work so they went back as journalist.
I felt that this job work unlike Spiderman than being a scientist made more sense because he is friend with some of the most brilliant mind and he is a poorgay who worked with Jonah for decades

Booster Gold is close, he truly feels most alive when he's basking in the glory and fame of an adoring crowd. He still likes money and he's got exuberant tastes. He may sell out and do some stupid commercials but he's not gonna kill someone for cash.

Superman is a journalist because that establishes him as someone on the side of the people against the establishment.
That association isn't so prominent nowadays, but back when Superman was created, the idea of the muckraking journalist was still prominent.
