Shows like 'Saved by the Bell' kept Memphis Group design alive into the 90s but it had otherwise pretty much left mainstream culture.

while the bottom is accurate (besides the poster of atari dragon...no one had that) its too close to earth tones of the 70s if you want something to be noticeably 80s.
The Memphis Design aesthetic was from the 80s so I guess thats why they over do it in movies/shows

          Anonymous

It comes down to designs that were popularized in the decade versus what most people lived with. The earth tones and paneling originated in the 70s but most people didn't renovate every decade to the latest trends so what most people lived was the bottom image even if someone keeping up with trends would have gone with something Memphis (or more likely, the other forgotten 80s trend, floral/nature wallpaper and oak, Oak, OAK!).

Wilson Phillips was on VH1 too much to be considered a girl band. They were a middle age office manager band. Plus they didn't release anything until 1990 so they can't be considered an 80s band.

stop thinking there is such a thing as 80s revival, for one thing

    Wedding Singer is from 1998
And you still think there is such thing as "revival"
There is no revival. There is no new culture. We're just recycling the same shit over and over again.
All the music that is played on the radio are just covers from the past. All the movies that are being played in the movie theaters are just sequels and reboots. There is nothing new. Nothing.

Mark Fisher theorised that the working and middle classes have been slowly and systematically robbed of the structural conditions required for the creation of 'new' art and culture. The fact that nowadays every 'up and coming' artist is a rich kid or industry plant without an original bone in their body seems to support this idea.

What are the required structural conditions, and why were they robbed from the middle class specifically, and by whom? This is interesting. Source?

It's a common thread throughout his blog and some of his books. I think there's a specific essay on it in 'Ghosts of my Life'. His argument is centred around the united kingdom as that is where he is from, so you may not find it useful if you are american.

I'm doing research on nostalgia (I'm not finished yet) and the 2020s seem to be more nostalgic for late 80s early 90s rather then core/early 80s like it was last decade.

Picrel is an (unfinished) truncated visual of what I've found (also a prediction) generally a decade seems to be nostalgic for 30-40 years previous.

Yes, but certain decades seem to be a little stronger in their nostolgia.
I noticed, 1920s, 1950s, and 1980s all had much longer nostolgia arcs for some reason.
