Why is the boys show is far better than the comic such a common opinion when the shows writing is trash?

Why is “the boys show is far better than the comic” such a common opinion when the shows writing is trash?

It doesn’t even have the balls to be edgy. Instead it’s a faux edginess that they can be sure won’t offend the viewing audience, it’s pathetic

This can also be said about the comic.

Homelander says Black person. Which is already more than the show has ever done. Even their Nazi character wasn’t allowed to say any racial slurs past PG13

Yeah, which is why the show is so scared of it. Because it’s sooooo not edgy and common.

Might just be American audiences tbh. They can handle seeing black people killed but would cry if the no no word was said

Just because you don't know about something well known and uncontroversial doesn't mean it's fake. Killing off gay characters in stories was common in the past, either because they were the villains or because they invariably got saddled with the tragedy/weepy subplots that usually resolve with someone dying.

Yes it was meant to be edgy. Its entire advertising campaign was around how “edgy” it is. The writers personally hyped up Herogasm episode as being so edgy it’s disgusting

If you like the show that’s fine, don’t know why you’re angry at people who pay attention to the show you like and the writers intentions

Hughie was traumatized over the fact that his last girlfriend died as he could do nothing to stop it, and Starlight 200% needed his help as she was very clearly outmatched dealing with Homelander, yet she started b***hing about the power-up that made him strong enough to nearly kill Homelander and stop being useless for no reason, until they threw in "brain damage lol" to make her correct. These pure evil man-hating goblins really took the mask off here.

    >You ain't no hero," Mother's Milk tells Soldier Boy. "You just another racist piece of shit we can't seem to get rid of. This is for my family."

I don’t understand this scene, Soldier Boy was shown to have killed MM’s family accidentally as collateral damage and previously praised Bill Cosby of all people. Even his flashback with Black Noir came across as him not wanting a teammate to potentially outshine him and strike out on their own. He acted the same with his entire team hence why they betrayed him.

Did they leave out the racist parts for some reason? Were they too offensive for the writers to put to paper without fainting?

They realized that they needed to make him a worse threat than Homelander too late. Hence why there's dialogue trying to set him up as racist, homophobic, etc while Homelander was doing more horrible things.

I mean, it's part of why the season finale falls apart. All of sudden everyone turns on him when he was the lesser of two evils

  14. 6 months ago

Because the comic is far, far worse. Probably bottom 3 Ennis work in general.

Hard disagree. Relationships between the characters are far better. The world building and overall story makes way more sense.

The only real complaint is the excessive Ennis edginess, except the show tries to use this and falls short.

They're too different to really compare. The comic has a ton of flaws but it does have some strengths that the show doesn't have - in particular I think starting out with the surveillance on the smaller teams was a good idea. Outside of Popclaw I struggle to think of a super outside of the seven in season 1, so the world feels a lot smaller.

  31. 6 months ago
    Anonymous

The comics have a couple of this that the show lacks, a world that actually feels big and alive, some characters that are better than in the show, some decent storylines, etc.
But I'm general the show has far more quality and cohesion, conflicts resolve on a more satisfying way, we can actually like some of the protagonist, and The seven in general are a huge Upgrade compared to the comics.
Yes, the show was some progressive writing problems, but if you can look past those it is still enjoyable, even if sometimes very moronic.

Also the ending on the comics is horrible, abhorrent, actual shit on comic format. I ended up feeling like I lost my time reading this shit.

      Anonymous

      >Also the ending on the comics is horrible
the ending is the capstone to the thematic points of the story, and the show being unwilling to go there is why its a diluted take on the comic's themes.

    1. The comic is “problematic”
    2. Normies parrot what casuals who run YouTube accounts say and casuals don’t read comics.
