Funnily enough I really like The Last Duel. I'd heard it was feminist trash (probably why it bombed), but really that's only true if you assume what the woman is saying is the real truth.

I thought the "the Truth" lingering in white text on a black background was very subtle.
The thing is Maguerite's story was obviously full of bullshit, primarily based on how her husband behaved. Like in her version he refuses to speak to her because of her low-cut dress and then tells her off in private, but in his it never even shows up. I could believe that maybe he made an offhand negative comment, and she just remembered it as worse than it actually was (very typical woman behaviour). Likewise him strangling her after she tells him she was raped. Like maybe he got a bit physical and grabbed her, but I refuse to believe he would strangle her in that way. It all comes off as so ridiculous, Jean's character is basically a caricature in her version. So I refuse to believe her version is supposed to be the definitive "truth".
But that's how most feminist claptrap actually comes across these days. They're so demented they write the shit with no idea how bad it makes them look.

Your belief is irrelevant. Hers is an objective truth an everything that shows up in thier version that contradictory to her are male lies design to make them look better. She is a baseline. Except the lingering 'truth' at the point of her story introduction but I'm guessing unless Holofcener herself would have appeared and literally tell that what you about to see is an objective depiction of events you wouldn't count it as such.

That's not even going into the way it is framed and presented to the viewer in the understanding that us, as modern post #metoo viewers, should intrinsically recognise the almost cartoon stereotype males from the previous two chapters as being self serving and false, but that we understand her account and its depiction as all to real and prevalent. Why are sci-fi movies so boring
I read warhammer book last week. It had fuking gestalt mind, a machine that used 7 human brains to run itself, and kept replacing them but sometimes kept degrading ones to enjoy watching their nightmares. How cool is that? And it was just one element, whole book was about ship the size of death star going on exploration mission. And inside death star there was a conflict between giant robots on who was the boss that almost blew up the ship. Also it had templar knights fighting space elves. It was interesting.
Don't watch movies for plot anymore and your life will be greatly improved.

It's not that, it's just that books and movies are 2 very different mediums. While the story is 80% of a book it's probably only 35% of a movie. I like good story telling in movies but I don't let a somewhat boring or dumb story prevent me from enjoying an otherwise fantastic movie.
