Why is this 20 year old film series so popular again? I keep seeing threads about it, articles about it, memes about it and even zoomer vtuber girls are tripping over themselves to pickme over it? Is this literally just a case of a movie was popular when I was 10 and now that I am 30 it is now the best movie ever because it came out when I was 10?

They are well-made, good movies with excellent musical scores and no Black folk
what about the orcs?
Only leftist racists see them as Black folk since they saw too much of themselves in the orcs.
>what about the orcs?
Orcs are German-coded not black-coded
Americans don't know that. They see a violent monster that wants to tear down civilisation and they think black.
>no Black folk
What? Laketown was like central LA
That's the Hobbit.
we don't talk about those movies
>and no Black folk
That's the best part and everyone knows it
Last decent trilogy before the SJW brainrot ruined everything
Planet of the Apes was good
Every single person in here praising them would lose their mind if they were released today, because they replaced Glorfindel with Arwen and a major subplot involves a woman being unsatisfied with being a housewife and killing the Witch King when even Gandalf couldn't.
Look, man. Most of them only care about the casting
I'll let you in on a little secret, most people don't give a frick about that woke stuff per se, it's just that people have a pavlovian response when they see it because they KNOW the show or movie is going to be trash. It's not that the black elves are bad on their own, it's that the only reason the elves are black is so the producers can call you racist when you say the show is garbage. And why would you need such a shield if the show was actually good?
>because they replaced Glorfindel with Arwen
Glorfindel was cut for the same reason Tom Bombdil was cut. Its world building that doesnt advance the story or plot. It was the right discission to cut both.
>major subplot involves a woman being unsatisfied with being a housewife and killing the Witch King when even Gandalf couldn't.
Like in the book?
Frick off troll.
I agree about the decision on not including Glorfindel but putting Arwen in his place was a mistake imo. What is she doing alone in the hills where trolls, wargs and Nazguls are roaming? When Elrond is presented as a nearly overbearing/protective father, especially concerning her relationship with Aragorn, in a way he wasn't in the books? Why not have some random elves searching for them and bringing Frodo to Rivendell? I understand that they wanted to give a bigger role to Arwen but it worked poorly and raised some questions with no good answer. Now to be fair to them, I'm not sure there even was some way to do it that wouldn't come as contrived tbh.
kys ojama
yup... the pipeweed scenes and the blatant gayness between sam and frodo... likewise
>and the blatant gayness between sam and frodo...
>Last decent trilogy before the SJW brainrot ruined everything

Boomers complained to shit about the movies being 'politically correct' feminist propaganda when they came out.
>Boomers complained to shit about the movies being 'politically correct' feminist propaganda when they came out.
The points aren't wrong, just way less "woke" / "politically correct" than what we would have today. Because we already saw that in Rings of Power.
You should try the novelization sometime. I heard it's pretty good.
I don't read non-canonical fanfic. Who the frick cares about Tom Bombadil? Tom? That doesn't even sound like a Middle Earth name.
Be better.
The Jackson fanbase is mostly Funko Pop collecting man children, basically Star Wars fandom (in America at least)
It's just another case of something going through the nostalgia cycle, like the SWprequels
White people are leaving this world, just like the elves.
Yeah but the difference is Middle Earth still had whites left when the Elves were gone. Earth will not be nearly as good when our Elves leave.
This anon really hit the nail on the head as to why people have nostalgia for Lord of the Rings.
who the frick are our elves?
Genuine religious White people. These mostly left this world some 50 years ago
there are still plenty of cucks around
Hahahaha
Asians
As time goes on it becomes more and more apparent this is where cinema peaked. Every day there are young people discovering it for the first time and asking "why aren't movies like this anymore?"
>Every day there are young people discovering it for the first time and asking "why aren't movies like this anymore?"
I spoke to a zoomerino (on Cinemaphile) just yesterday about the recent past. They watched Supernatural and couldn't believe how much better past media was. Probably because that stuff was made by white people, who all love each other and that's why they make good things for each other.
They should just stop creating in general, because it's just people who hate them now. They probably have, judging by the quality of modern media.
The zoomerino you spoke to was yourself, in your head.
>cause white people are perfect angels and Black folk Black folk
Kys
It has always been popular dude
No, no, you see, you're supposed to stop liking things over time. Old Thing = Bad, New Thing = Good. Even if they used to be good, now that they are old, they are bad, and you can't like them any more.
But what if old thing good?
it's because I'm re-reading the books and the producers have to change the world around me to fit the trends I set.
Bro can you read about the part where we all get gfs?
That part happens in the third movie, when Gandalf explains to Pippin that death isn't the end. Should have been paying attention.
BASED grey rain curtain of this world chad
ROP made them popular again
Nobody cares about Hobbitslop still though
Nobody watched rop though, it got mogged by a fricking game of thrones spinoff full of Black folk for fricks sake
Most successful Amazon original.
>If I just repeat that nobody watched a Lord of the Rings TV show enough times it will become real
Doesn't work like that troony, just like telling everybody you are a woman won't change the fact that your ''''vegana''' is a horrible self inflicted gaping gash where your tiny penis used to be.
Tolkien would cringe at people obsessing over his work's 'canon'. Whenever I read some nerd obsessively answering someone's question about one of the films saying "oh this never happened though because book" you recoil at the absolute dull headedness and stupidity required to have that thought
The last attempt at a film franchise that wasn't anti-White.
It has its flaws. LotR was carried by excellent production crew and excellent performances. Jackson having more creative control or WETA not being at the absolute top of their game would've taken from the quality immensely.
There's a big bump in inflation-adjusted box office in the mid-00s that's thanks to this trilogy. It really doesn't get enough credit and morons will probably scratch their heads for decades to come at why movies can't succeed like this.
>It really doesn't get enough credit and morons will probably scratch their heads for decades to come at why movies can't succeed like this.
There's like hours of footage you can watch (the appendices) that shows how they made it so good. It was a lot of people working hard on something. They were happy and passionate.
Yeah the all 3 DVD had tonnes of BTS videos. I spent hours watching those as a kid.
Anyone here get the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty special edition? It had a second disc with BTS videos and interviews. First game I ever saw with that. It was awesome.
>Yeah the all 3 DVD had tonnes of BTS videos. I spent hours watching those as a kid.
It set the standard too high, I think. I bought the extended trilogy and that's like 10 hours, and there's an equal amount of behind the scenes footage. I don't want that for every movie, but you do want that for movies you enjoyed a lot, and most of them don't have it.
It's literally like another movie, because you get to see the same people interacting with each other. It's so comfy.
People used to actually care about the shit they made. The fact that the DVDs came with a nearly 5 hour filmmaking documentary is unfathomable today, nobody cares and they know they aren't making something important or groundbreaking so why bother.
>They were happy and passionate.
It really is just this. So many people are frickin miserable and misery loves company. It's always some single and scorned middle aged women or a homosexual whose friends and family outcasted him.
I think most people don't understand that you have to treat others the way you want to be treated. Someone is mean to you, does that mean you should be mean too others? No, because then you become the person you hate. You should be nice to others and hope they're nice too, and then everyone can be happy.
When I was little, I went to a Catholic school and everyone was nice to each other, so it's possible.
I don't think anyone cares if they're the bad guys.
>treat others the way you want to be treated
that's a golden rule to live by and to teach anon
Why are you pretending to be utterly moronic?
>hurr this series that swept the oscars winning more awards than anything else in history is overrated
frick off, moron
>hurr this series that swept the oscars winning more awards than anything else in history is overrated
>7/11 Oscars vs 11/11 Oscars for RoTK not even counting the first two
Nobody cares about Mickie Mouse Awards
What do you mean again? people have been tripping over themselves over those films constantly since they came out.
Feels like Zoomers have discovered it.
Because it Rings it Power, it isn't hard to work out
New thing comes out = older thing popular again
The Bakshi movies became popular again once the Jackson movies came out
It happens with literally ever era of Star Wars too. This isn't difficult.
>Because it Rings it Power
*of
fricking autocorrect
It won’t happen anymore unless someone manages to make something even worse.
There are no Black folk in it
They are only popular on movie boards. Normies don't care about Lords of the Rings anymore.
Every year around this time anons get nostalgic
They watched it with family during the holidays and played battle for middle of earth during fall and winter break
It’s pretty much an Xmas movie
That makes sense
>White male saviors
>No lgbtq+ represenation
>Only POC are the bad guy mercenaries
>Women fawning over men
>Women being objectified
>Sexism
>Lack of female characters
>Ring wraths, sauron, orcs are all dark skinned
These movies are very problematic
This is the list Jeff Bezos should have written when writing his perfect show checklist, but he's clearly not smart enough.
>orcs are all dark skinned
Good job posting the one white skinned Orc. What's nice about this guy is that he's like a captain, so he's superior to the other Orcs and he also has white skin. Really makes you think.
Nice save, though sauron is still elader and is shown in all black armor. He is like darth vador, a strong black man that is in charge, and a group of white men come along and wreck his shit up. Sauron is portrayed as a black man in all the armor, and he is white underneath, showing that all black men really want to be white.
>the one white skinned Orc
There are tons of orcs with lighter skin tones. Most of them are somewhere between gray and pale-green more than anything. You could maybe try to make the argument that LotR "others" them through the use of unusual skintones, but that would be completely disingenuous because what "others" them is that they're noxious and vile-looking, with wholly unnatural skin tones only sometimes being just one component of that
>the other captain has white skin
lol
Well, you got me with this one. It's just a Cinemaphile gag anyway. If someone wants to know where the coloureds are then they can be the Orcs.
He never did get any meat.
>noxious and vile-looking
>unnatural skin tones
Yep
Orcs are Russian
>women liking men
>men liking women
“As a society we really need to address this issue.” Why are troons so fundamentally broken?
They are unironically more like cult classics. Critics don't care about them despite all those awards. They pretty much never show up in 'best of' lists. Not even in best of 21st century lists.
>Critics don't care about them despite all those awards
Why do the opinions of critics matter?
Because in the future they will be largely forgotten if no one will write or mention them anywhere.
>in the future they will be largely forgotten if no one will write or mention them anywhere.
You mean movies, right? Lord of the Rings hasn't been forgotten, because we're in a thread about it. The point I was trying to make is that the opinions of both critics and anons on Cinemaphile have equal value. Movies can be immortalised by any person and not just critics.
Because almost every fricking THING made in the past 23 years has been COMPLETE FRICKING SHIT.
But Lord of the Rings...it was all right.
Movies these days always have an agenda
>Women liking LOTR are pickme
Fujos are not pickme lol
What does pickme mean? I've never heard that term.
>What does pickme mean? I've never heard that term.
Strawman concept for a female chud
LotR is the most popular fantasy story of the last century.
No, it's Harry Potter.
It is, and it influenced everything Fantasy ever since the books came out. I'm a lifelong gamer and I saw the influence of Lord of the Rings in every RPG I played - even if it's like a Japanese game. Someone in this thread actually suggested LOTR will be forgotten, but it'll be copied forever.
When something is the best, you can't do anything but attempt to make something equally good, which is every single Fantasy media or game since LOTR.
It’s like people who say America has no culture while posting in English on the Internet with their iPhone … the influence is so ubiquitous it cannot be discerned.
>English is an American invention
Are you actually moronic?
Everybody ITT needs to frick off back to r*ddit and DIE
I know zoomers are so moronic it hurts
>Why is this 20 year old film series so popular again?
Last well done epic movies, not really much in the last decade that competes with them.
Yeah, except all those MCU films that reinvented the epic, introduced the concept of a shared universe, and made billions of dollars around the world
>"nobody watched ring of power!"
Aw Lawd dem rangs of Powah!
*sucks teeth*
You aight, little chaddie
I look like that and say things like that (because they're true)
>steals an apple, and your heart
It's popular with women and gays
If you enjoy LOTR you can't call yourself a man
wtf i love women now
>rope s2 starts gearing up the marketing
>trilogy shitposting immediately escalates
It’s frankly pathetic that they know full well that lowering the bar is the only option. They’re right, of course, but it’s still sad.
>starts gearing up the marketing
Nah, that's months away. Not until Fallout/The Boys come out at least.
People are getting tired of the whole "can't take anything seriously and everything must be a joke" bullshit. They want more sincerity and earnestness and less quips. And LotR is great for that, even Jackson inserting some stupid stuff for cheap comedy couldn't ruin it like it did the Hobbit. You have real friendship, real sacrifice, real redemption, real heroes, real good triumphing over real evil, it's a timeless story.
Also this trilogy is perfect winter comfy kino.
The jokes in LOTR are by and large actual jokes or banter, rather than quips.
Even examples like
>that still only counts as one
Are set up for the pay off, rather than off the cuff torpedoes
By dumb stuff I was thinking of things like the dwarf throwing joke or Denethor eating like a pig.
Peter Jackson is probably the most overrated director of all time.
The only time he ever did anything decent it's because he is just copying exactly what Tolkien wrote (plot points only, can't into themes or tone) whilst directly replicating the visual reference provided by talented artists like Howe and Lee, or directly plagiarising scenes from superior LOTR creatives like Ralph Bakshi.
Whenever he went 'off script' and went along with his own vision he produced some of the absolute worst examples of blockbuster film making seen this century.
Last sincere movie about heroism.
I enjoy the books as a lad. I truly believe the people that made this trilogy had admiration for the source material and wanted to do right by it. It cares more about the story it’s telling than ensuring a troony, gay or black person is shoehorned in somewhere. It is also full of meme’d moments, which give it some longevity.
What's with/misc/ chuds trying to make these movies political and even make them like they glorify their ideology?
What’s with you being a moronic homosexual?
If you want a real long answer see this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tmxfVWDgMM
Disregard the sponsorship.
You are dishonest
>again
LOTR has been enormously popular since the 70s moron
>Have good source material
>Lovingly adapt it with time, care and effort
>Not putting your own spin on things/new material
>Only changes are to make it fit into movie form (Which are still 3 hours a piece so it doesn't cut major things)
It's pretty simple, plently of things could have high quality movie adaptions, people just don't care as much as Peter and that whole crew
>Not putting your own spin on things/new material
lol what? Jackson turned a piece of classic British fantasy literature born from folklore and myth into a quippy Americanised action movie for teenagers.
The reason Christopher Tolkien hated the movies so much is not just because they are a complete bastardisation and misrepresentation of the original story but because they are done for the sole purpose of appealing to AMERICANS
Tolkien absolutely hated Americans, it's a complete spit in the face.
Tolkien family lawyer actually summarised Christopher's thoughts on the PJ movies a decade ago
>His criticism of the movies is pages and pages long, and not complimentary. At. All. In very broad terms CT feels that all the themes that to him make the LR important are completely submerged in the movie behind frenetic motion, chases, fights and shrieking choirs (and in one major case, poor casting). But he also has some very cogent things to say about the alteration of characters and the poor rendering of particular scenes stemming from PJ's apparently poor understanding of the book.
JRR Tolkien didnt complain about it at all. And he was the author.
It's a movie trilogy that could never exist today
Best film score of all time
Incredible cast
Great ending
Emotional
because it has SOUL
is this the first xmas event with no new 5* servant?
