Titus is difficult to adapt since it's so dark and ludicrous.

it flopped at the box office, and Shakespeare is too high-brow to put on daytime cable so it didn't build word of mouth over time the way other brilliant flops like Shawshank Redemption did

it's always been one of his less-liked plays.

      >it flopped at the box office
yes although it only opened in like five theaters.

lmao, Shakespeare was low-brow in its time. Filled with smut. Imagine 400 years from now people calling Game of Thrones too high-brow to show anymore.

It is no different from Game of Thrones and yet GoT was hailed as a modern day masterpiece.

At least google before flaunting your impotent history wiener. It has nothing to do with Vespasians. It's a complete Shakespearian fiction. One of his first revenge play that people still argue was a parody of the entire sub genre.

        >people still argue was a parody of the entire sub genre.
Do you agree with this? Because a few of his stories seem more like a kind of mockery than a serious/invested take on the subject. He seemed like he was quite catty at times, but liked to dress his burns up in a deniable way.

I liked this movie a lot. Every character is a caniving bastard and it relies on exploitation for shock value. This Shakespeare guy was ahead of his time. Richard III is also really good.

In your opinion, what's the central "meme" or idea of this story?
Because I've never heard one applied to it.

More popular Shakespeare stuff tends to have at a least a very basic broad central idea that attracts people (and with the people come the critiques and cultural gatekeepers who attempt hijack and rewrite the popular viewpoint as their own viewpoint).

    >its literally oldboy
