The character validates losers. Don't get me wrong, it is a well put together film but the fandom morons trying to be the dude and drinking White Russians is absolutely disgusting.
I think it's more about extremes. We can't be like The Dude but you can't dismiss his life philosophy entirely. I'm starting to think people who thought they'd get something out of doing the right thing everyday are jealous of people who get by and don't give a frick.
>why is this film considered beloved again?
Probably because people like it you stupid homosexual. Learn English. And yeah you are too stupid to enjoy it
This movie is very good. I picked it for one of my mushroom movie nights and is one of my best picks yet for that so go for it if you're into that kind of thing.
The whole thing is very comfy. How the characters talk to each other is excellent and frequently laugh out loud. It has me needing more comedy detective stories. The whole movie is also stylish. If you haven't seen it give it a shot.
Okay, not trying to derail the thread but one aspect of the movie that worked well for me is the dialog between The Dude and Walter. Reminds me of competing voices in your head or talking with your brother or something so I've been looking for movies with that feel if anyone has anything.
There's just too much coarse language in it. There really is. All the great writing, acting and directing in the world can't mask that everyone in the film is simply abrasive. They're grating. Maybe this is just what the Coen Brothers excel at. Scratching their nails down a chalkboard and laughing at us.
Interesting stuff. Language never bothered me but maybe it's how you grew up or what you're around. I guess it depends on context, conversational is okay, over the top to be over the top does get weird.
It's like sex scenes more explicit ones don't bother me but when it's all goofy and shit in a PG-13 movies is so off-putting.

The Coens are so good they've covered even this base
I always appreciate that stuff. I do my own thing and know why so movie directors that are like hehe it's a mystery really bother me. They know why they do things and we know they know so what's wrong with giving more context to big fans.
Overall this movie is in my buy list, like the very best stuff. What I can hope for is maybe physical media will exist but maybe small runs, nice boxes vs the old days of bins of dvds at Wal-Mart. If you have more than one service, you've seen shit move around or outright disappear.
Cuz it's good gay
It's a funny inversion of noir tropes and a pretty close parody of The Big Sleep (but made by someone who read a summary and not the full book).
Total hangout movie, captures a certain lifestyle in a place uniquely. Dream sequence calls back to old musicals in a strangely funny way
Its great, but as far as coen movies go I dont know why everyone thinks this is their best
That's um... Just... Uhm... Like.... Your like... Opinion, man. Shut the frick up, DONNY!!!
>everyone collectively loses their shit, pisses themselves laughing, one guy has a heart attack laughing and drops dead on the spot
It's pretty funny movie with a cool story
That's all
the beauty of the film is in the simplicity
It's entertaining. Don't let people dictate your opinion because of the site they browse

>enjoying things is...le BAD
I did enjoy the film. I just don't try to pretend to be a fictional character.
Serve up a Sarsaparilla.
the internet validates your stupid opinion.
I am proud to admit I never fell for it. I've never had a white russian.
Its good but I cant show it to my friends. People dont have any attention span or ability to relax and absorb it
it's literally the most reddit movie out there as proven by the morons relentlessly quoting it
imagine having your identity formed by an anonymous troll infested imageboard
Its still a great movie. They are pothead losers and feel validated by the dude, but you can just lile pretend they don't exist man.

The Big Lebowski is KINO. and I'm tired of pretending it isn't . It's the best movie I've seen in the last 5 years.
Burn After Reading is their funniest film, prove me wrong
It's just really fricking funny. Showed this to my dour dad who hates Hollywood and even he loved it
You are wrong, because it's A Serious Man
Quite honestly a perfect movie
comfy watch for those of us with substance addictions
because it is. did you mean to ask 'why is it beloved'?
The Big Lebowski is the closest thing to a comfort movie I have. I probably watch it multiple times a year because I'm always in the mood for it
because its funny
le funny cursing fat hair-trigger man

Because it's the best comedic take on the noir genre that's been made.
