Why is this held in such high regard? Besides the ocassional fun joke, it's an unpleasantly written and visually dry film without any timelessness.

Fairy Godmother is one of the c**tiest characters in cinema history.
She’s the villain dummy
She's the antagonist you autistic frick.
You know OP?
Besides your occasional fun joke, I think your posts are unpleasantly written and they insist upon themselves.
Shrek 2 is the pinnacle of film and you can eat my fat ogre shit if you even dare to fricking disagree
It somewhat keeps the spirit of the first one but has a romcom comedy element that plebs love.
You're supposed to hate her, she's the antagonist. I know she would be the writer's self insert today but things were different back then.
I wouldn't mind the Fairy Godmother if the film had a proactive and compelling female character on the good side to offer a balance. I don't think Fiona fits the bill.
Why?
she doesn't really do anything of significance in 2.
>i have parents
>we should meet them
>shrek stop being you
>oh damn, you did
>i dunno if I like it
>oh wait, that wasn't you at all
>I'm fine being an ogre like you
hell, her mother is more of a character with her voice of reason type shit. Fiona is just a macguffin for everyone to fight over. At least in 1 she had her secrets and expectations to make her appear as an actual person and not just a parody of a woman changing after marriage
>macguffin
Why does there have to be your idea of a good female? Not every movie needs a female. I'm fine with movies with only females. I just won't watch it but I won't complain about inclusion, that's for sure. Don't you also want to b***h about Doris triggering your body dysmophia, troony?
oh, you're just mad that they wrote an unlikable woman?
2 is mediocre for a lot of reasons, FGM is not one of them. The reliance on pop culture references is both it's weakest trait and the reason why normies love it so much
The pop culture references in shrek were rather light and sparse, with a few exceptions (the matrix parody, being one), but they were well received. People think about DuLoc being like a modern theme park, about the wrestling segment, about the Dating Gameshow thing, etc.
your forced meme sucks
Can't say i'm a fan of the 2003 CGI by the computer animation studio Pacific Data Images and full of characters originally designed by sculptor Tom Hester.
The character animation of the first film has a jerky and robotic, almost stop motion like, feel to it. Quite charming to look at. Worked on the film's favor. Sadly, that jerky feel is completely gone in this sequel. Everybody is animated differently here.
Most of the events in this film happen because of the characters making unintelligent/rash
decisions. There are also 2 instances of Donkey extending the plot by being an idiot (when keeping watch at the potion room' door and when eavesdropping outside of the tavern)
Dissapointing how Farquaad is never mentioned or referenced. Worst part is that they missed a perfect chance to mention him : Donkey saying "there's that bush that's shaped like Shirley Bassey". It should've been shaped like Farquaad instead.
probably something in lithgow's contract
Fiona and Donkey were better in the first film. Fiona was a cursed human who felt disgusted at her ogress form after sunset and wanted to break it in order to rejoin society. She didn't even want Shrek and Donkey to see her as an ogress despite them not being humans who would likely be disgusted, always shutting herself from them before sunset. As for Donkey, he was better when he was a lonely guy without friends whose unpleasant owner tried to sell for a few shillings and who was determined to break Shrek's tough shell.
Donkey is no longer a lonely guy in 2. He is in a relationship with Dragon and has Shrek and Fiona as friends, plus Pinocchio too ("me and Pinocchio was going to catch a tournament"). He was more sympathetic in 1.
Shit
I just like the whole satire concept of fairy tales and the last movie. It helps that the comedy still hits for me
>Myke Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow and Vincent Cassel (Robin Hood), plus a lot of cute cameos by staff members like storyboard artists or the producer
>songs by Smash Mouth, Joan Fett, The Proclaimers, Eels and John Cale, plus end credits songs by Self, Baha Men, Leslie Carter and Dana Glover
>1999/2000 CGI made at Palo Alto using Silicon Graphics computers
>lasts exactly 83 minutes without end credits, meaning that it's easy to rewatch
The first Shrek is one of the best animated films ever in my book
Linda Hunt was part of the Shrek 1 cast at first. She played a story relevant character named Dama Fortuna, which was cut from the film relatively late. It's possible that some scenes with this character made it to the CGI phase, and if they did, then they are lost forever.
People swear by Shrek 2 despite having not seen it for 15 years and only remember scenes from the first Shrek.
I mostly just remember that Shrek 2 game that was ported to everything and that everyone owned for some reason
It was an alright game with the actual VA
That's really all it takes for these tie in products to succeed
>An American Tail : Fievel Goes West, The Swan Princess, George of the Jungle, The Magic Pudding, George of the Jungle 2, Shrek 2, Valiant, Charlotte's Web, Shrek 3, Igor, Planet 51, Shrek 4, Winnie the Pooh, Beethoven's Christmas Adventure, Planes, Get Squirrely, Trolls, Charming, Elliot the Little Reindeer, Arctic Dogs, Rally Road Racer
John Cleese being part of the Shrek 2 cast isn't exactly a positive. Cleese is a sellout when it comes to voice acting in films.
Why do you keep making the same thread? Besides the occasional newbie baffled by you, it's always full of unpleasently written and repetitive posts without any coherence.
Rupert Everett played Prince Charming. Not his first gig on an animation film. He was previously the villain on that theatrical Wild Thornberrys film that premiered one year and a half before (and he was cast for that film long before Shrek 2)
Kino soundtrack
I used to fall asleep to it when I was was depressed as a kid. It was my favorite movie for a while.
I'm gonna be real with you guys, it's the only movie that gives me goosebumps.
It's the assault on the castle, man, it's just too good. And puss' sacrifice? Frick me dead, bros.
>"Today I repay my debt."
This cat has more balls than most people posting here.
>sacrifice
He knew that he had no chance of losing
He's just that good, yeah.
While it is a bit too pop culture heavy its still pretty funny, decently written and the CGI looks less dated than Shrek 1. All the additions to the cast were great, Puss especially. I remember it more of it than the first Shrek honestly. Now Kung Fu Panda 2 on the other hand, that's a substandard and overrated sequel.
Panda 2 is an excruciating film.
Its a shame because KFP1 is honestly one of my favorite animated films: simple but fun and effective story, superb cast (especially Tai Lung), KINO villain, great look, great soundtrack, tight and funny dialogue. 2's dialogue is far weaker and the more serious plot is just kinda shit and sloggy. Don't even remember 3 at all really.
First film was the voice acting debut of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow and Vincent Cassel (Eddie Murphy was on Mulan years before)
Second film was the voice acting debut of Antonio Banderas, Jennifer Saunders and Julie Andrews (John Cleese and Rupert Everett had prior experience, especially Cleese)
It's good but puss in boots 2 is the pinnacle of the shrek-verse
Too many pop culture references
Fiona is a passive non-character
