    Likeable characters, good puppet designs.

farscape had some of the least likeable characters of any sci fi show of that era, possibly of all time. i couldn't mange to actually finish the series because I didn't like a single one of the characters and they just kept getting worse as the show went on. it did have good puppets, costumes, set design and such tho.

fish out of water done right. prime claudia to sit on my face. henson company at it's best.

I cringed so hard when they got cast for the last couple seasons of stargate together, seemed like such a dumb/desperate move lifting the leads from another sci-fi show but they worked.

I felt so too when I was watching it recently but I got sick of it. It's good but not really consistently good, there's a lot of mid to shit episodes. It's peak comfy when it's good though.

I had to stop when Jothee showed up. That homie is so fricking ugly it made me quit the show and I'm not even joking, I don't want this fricking face on my TV

I dont think anyone feels different about him. Was their plan to make this character likeable? Just because dhargo is annoying, doesn't mean I like this guy when he cucks him

I think they wanted to bring in a younger dude, so angsty teen boys could admire him. He's a dude who hates his dad & blah blah blah teenager stuff. But they noticed it didn't go well & tossed him. Plus, there's just no way Critchon or Dhargo weren't fricking cool even as oldish men

When does it get good? I just started watching it and it's not great so far. But a lot of shows are like that. They take awhile for the chemistry between characters/actors to grow. I'm only 4 episodes in.

Around the end of Season 1, when Crichton starts to figure out how this part of the galaxy operates and gets his footing.

Also, keep in mind that they had to keep the first season as generic scifi in order to bait people into watching it so they could get the ratings numbers for future seasons. The really weird stuff starts in season 2.

        >Aeryn that low
        ???
I love her arc. Going from no-nonsense badass military warrior/fighter pilot to growing a heart is one of my favorite archetypes for a character and her slow growth is done perfectly. I also like her and John's slow chemistry growth in the show, the build up is always more fun than the payoff.

It homages to all sorts of previous shows, but reimagines them for the 2000s. There's a healthy dose of Blake's 7 in the lineage of Farscape, and it's a better for referencing so much of that classic.

She’s not but attraction is more than that.

      Anonymous

Its a matter of personal taste I suppose, but IMO its a rare example of character development making her extremely attractive rather than just her looks/explicit sexuality

she starts as an aggressive, domineering stone cold b***h, and throughout the series, learns to soften up a bit, becomes vulnerable and struggles profoundly to cope with this new reality, and ultimately she learns to love, learns the value of companionship and mutual support, and ultimately, she full on embraces motherhood, femininity, and the family life, bringer her journey to an emotional and wholesome conclusion.

in the end she is everything you could ever want, strong and capable, supportive, yet emotionally open and a deeply loving as partner and as a mother. to add to this, in my opinion, the nature of her journey means everything about her has a certain air of extreme sincerity; her feelings are not something she takes lightly or plays games with, it was a long and painful ride for her to get where she is and she does not take any of it for granted in the slightest. this fact alone makes her insanely desirable imo.

You see a lot of her, and people have a natural attraction to people they're around. She's not ugly, which automatically combines with that first part, into a lot of guys being more into her, than they'd be otherwise.
Then there's the Dommy Mommy gays.
There's also the fact that Crichton is into her, and he's the character that we follow and want to emulate. He's into Aeryn, so we are.

Aeryn gives birth to a baby boy, John's son. They name it after D'argo since he died. Chiana is still the prostitute that she always was. Juul gets nuked. Rygel regains control over his empire. Sikozu stays with Scorpius.
Read the comics, as they take place after the miniseries, and we'll never get more Farscape.

    1. People who made the show cared, so it's high effort
    2. It's only okay UNTIL you realize/read that Chriton's constant messaging of 'im going crazy' and 'this galaxy is crazy' is actually him verbalizing an entire new personality apart from his NASA pilot normalcy.
He simply can't cope/absorb his new reality so he doesn't. His new personality fits right in, riding wave after wave of episodic calamity.
It's... Space dungeons and dragons for him. He leaves the player behind.

You forgot that SciFi was willing to dump money into this show, to build their audience. In 1999, when Farscape first started, SciFi only had a few of their own originals, and continued a few shows from other networks. Not that Farscape could have been made years later, but if it hypothetically would have, it would have had far less of a budget. It was for sure a loss leader for them.

Was there ever any interview, where they discussed the origin of the chip in John's brain? Was it a repurposed idea from Buffy The vampire Slayer? John mentions Buffy a few times in the show, so we know the writers are fans. The brain-chip in Buffy was about half a year before the brain-chip in Farscape.
