Where the frick did you go to school? I've never seen a school that went back this early. Some years, labor day weekend was my second week of school. I remember because the first week was only a half week, and then we got a three day weekend for labor day right after, so it was like easing us back into a full week - though that obviously wasn't the intention.

TMNT was a thing at one point thirty-something years ago. Every attempt since has been a modest success with kids but never to the same degree. It's mostly loved by old frickers.

      Anonymous

Like this anon said tmnt is mostly loved by old frickers that still have that nostalgia because early tmnt was actual soul. I don't know why they don't go all in on nostalgia and just make a turtles movie set in the late 80s early 90s with a hot ginger April, very little cgi and put all the budget towards the fight scenes with amazing choreography. Add in the vanilla ice song and you're gonna print money.

Is there really that much nostalgiagays for this IP? most tmnt fans like the version of the series they grew up watching while all the others seem to be drastically different reboots. But then again, every version of transformers is also different and people cantbstop watching those

It gets a new animated adaptation every five years or so, and it varies wildly in popularity/quality. But by all accounts, the newest one is very popular and well loved by children while the manchildren preferred the older one with the e-girl April and the really varied designs for the turtles. I think the current iteration is the one with the Black person April.

San Francisco is a literal shithole with maps of all the shit out on the streets where it's legal to give someone AIDS without telling them and the punishment is less severe for molesting children if the sex act was homosexual. • 9 months ago
              Anonymous

Maybe some people did buy at theaters, but you don't get to 1.3 billion by that alone. There was massive hype around the movie and it came out at the height of Marvel's popularity. It would have made at least a billion either way. Even fricking Captain Marvel did that, and it had no affermative action helping it.

"some people" dude there are multiple charities that each raised 300k to a million, and there are dozens of black celebrities who each literally spent millions. It simply isn't organic. They ran "favorite super hero" polls a year after it came out and Black Panther still wasn't in the top 100. None of the merchandise sold. It epitomizes the progressive tendency to make products not because of demand, but because it's what they WANT people to want.

                Anonymous

Yea, I'm going to hve to dispute some of that. If a charity made a few million for a black kids to get tickets for the movie, not even a million of that goes to the studio or box office count, because the theater has to make money ahead of giving residuals. Even if a million charities had succeeded, i would not have affected box office that much.

BP's success was a constellation of things. Marvel's peak popularity, easily the most expensive marketing campaign behind the 2-part finale, height of the Trump-era culture wars where doing anything "non-white" was promoted like an absolute virtue by the left, insane cast who lent credibility to it.

Captain Marvel was the same, but mostly BS. Estimates was that 2-300 million of its earnings was back-channel buyouts by Disney partners.

I'm willing to bet Rise influenced Mutant Mayhem to some degree since half the Turtles are voiced by blacks, April is still black, no sign of Shredder anywhere, features a jittery animation style, and the dialogue feels like it was written by a bunch of aged soi-guzzling millennials. It'll probably break even, but it'll still underperform since its box office opening was extremely tepid.

    (A) Nobody cares what critics think.
    (B) Seth Rogen's involvement was enough to kill anyone's interest in the film.

Releasing it in a Tuesday in August wasn’t a good idea.

And the character designs just look so ugly.

Fat dwarf nerd April was a step too far

They could easily have gotten away with Black person April if they made her hot

It’s funny, the movie would probably have done quite a bit better had the made April hot and not black, making Splinter gay certainly didn’t help either

Sometimes I wonder how much more popular this show would be with some higher animation quality, better writing for certain characters or plots (Karai and Fast Forward), and if it didn’t fall of hard at the end with a censored and gimped couple of seasons of FF/BttS. It’s damn good and probably one of the best kids shows ever but there’s just enough holding it back from being a perfect show. Still the best turtles adaptation by far and is peak 2000s kino. Theme songs are all spectacular too.

Baxter Stockman's arc in the show is legit incredible. Insane in the Membrane is a literal creepypasta lost episode that actually happened.

          Anonymous

Yeah Stockman was great and that episode fleshed him out. Shame Hun and Garbage Man didn’t get theirs. Still feel like Stockman’s resolution in FF was rushed because nothing really ever happened to make him an evil guy, he was just always an amoral, glory chasing butthole. So I don’t completely buy it when he’s suddenly just evil because Bishop abandoned him, and now is a good guy. This is the kinda stuff I mean when I say this show is just slightly held back from being perfect, just because it’s a kids show. Absolutely amazing content for kids though, they can handle what most people now consider dark stuff and it’s really not so bad if kids get a littler scarred. The first nano episode, that fricked up Angel episode, and even that FF episode with the mutating poison scared the shit out of me as a kid.

It was OK but is maybe the most forgotten turtles incarnation along TMNT cgi movie. Fast Forward is fricking terrible.

A shame, since it was straight up adapting the OG comics for the first few seasons.

Everyone ITT saying the artstyle is ugly but i like the grimy look.
Black person April eas already in that recent show, and she is some sort of a mulatto in the comics anyway.
The only problem is that Seth Rogen is associated with it. He can really frick things up.

this also. You can have black / hispanic characters, but if they are shown like attractive people, it will sell tickets anyway. This TMNT feels ugly on purpose

Because Spiderman has Hailee Steinfeld in it, and the other has some POC has April.

Into the Spiderverse was genuinely good, and the sequel is riding that popularity.
On the other hand, nobody who actually likes TMNT wants an ugly, black April.

Because they are the same movie released in the same year
People who would be interested in seeing this already saw spider verse and don’t want to pay to see the same film again

The animation looks like a flip book. Does that not bother people? I cant even watch the commercials without feeling shitty. 90 minutes of that would be rough.

Get woke go broke (unless you can psyop women and brown people into seeing your movie repeatedly)
I watched the crowd coming out of a spiderverse showing and it was literally 90% hispanics and Black folk
