Why is TV wrestling stigmatized?

When it was at its peak in the Attitude Era, it was low brow to mainline America despite its mass success. Now it’s more sports based & has record profits but still isn’t a respected television medium.

    >Steve Austin
    >The Rock
    >Undertaker

These characters were fantastic and were wrestlings superstars so without them wrestling isn't the same. What would a modern Rock be? Just a wienery athlete? A modern Steve Austin wouldn't work, though maybe it would if he was left leaning. Modern Undertaker would be cool though.

Even the boomer characters like randy savage, flair, jake the snake, etc. we’re great. Wrestling seemed to have had a major downfall sometime in early 00s which is why they kept having to milk attitude era stars into the 2010s

Steve Austin would work more now than ever. The core of his character was just a dude who hated his butthole boss and allowed people to live vicariously through him. His absolute affront to institutions and authority would be too popular now actually, and considered problematic by institutions and authorities.

MMA like boxing has lot of corruption as far as judges. But that goes for any sport. Portland Blazers getting 30 fouls when they were leading LA in the 4th so big

yeag both aways have had a HUGE problem with "throwing fights" and arranged fights for bets

Making it PG was great for business but put a cap on potential. It’s just theater kids that do CrossFit now as the tough guys are too much of a liability outside the ring. camera work now has so many cuts it disorients the viewer and hurts immersion with the matches, makes live better for the product imo. Last I went to a live WWE show however there was a flagrant amount of commercial breaks, even between entrances. They’ve based themselves around clips for YouTube $$ and streaming PPVs exclusively on Peawiener (which you can’t access virtually anywhere outside the US).
Despite kayfabe being dead they are too afraid of taking the next step forward in shrouding their lives with prerecorded and schemed drama like modern reality TV and influencer personalities do because the talent and creative has been conditioned to bland storytelling with the hopes that the shitty facial expressions and flippity doo dah matches will convince the viewer its legitimate. The boomer executives have failed at merging with zoomer lifestyles (see Miz’s shitty reality show, Corbin’s selfie camera rants when he had hair) leaving the main audience to be ppl 20-40 who caught the tail end of the golden era who maybe got into it because of their dad. But birth rates are plummeting and the majority of hardcore wrestling fans are freaks and geeks who will not have offspring. The “record breaking profits” are due to Saudi $$ and thirdworld shitters now having phones, not because the product has improved. The reception of the WWE UFC merger is proof enough: people think UFC is the big dog and that WWE is just an elder care facility for washed up fighters like Rhonda Rousey. I sincerely doubt they’d bring shoot matches like Dan Severn vs Ken Shamrock.

It isn’t respected “television” because it remains antiquated in developing personalities, child-friendly as a male soap opera and gelded as fighting entertainment.

Pro wrestling is dead. Adults watch MMA. Why “Attitude Era” will never work. Their only audience now is to little kids who are too young to find MMA exciting. Basically need to go back ‘80s cartoon WWF era

No more fishing stories about wrestlers doing copious amounts of substances, pulling pranks on each other and beating the living shit out of people at bars for calling it fake. Also they now give main card events to shitty women wrestlers instead of keeping them as bimbo bawds

The top three matches in the 2020’s has been Logan Paul vs Roman Reigns, Bad Bunny vs Damien Priest, and Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins. Because those had real possibility of career ending injuries. And yet when someone like Big E breaks their neck, they don’t have his buddies turn heel for revenge. But Bray Wyatt’s haunted house bullshit gets green light after green light. They are burying themselves. They will do LÀ Knight like they did Rusef, except Knight has actual talent
