WHY SMILING FRIENDS IS NARCASSISTIC AND BAD FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Smiling Friends is a toxic show with a toxic message. Now I’m sure we all know this since everyone on Cinemaphile agrees. But the shit smiling friends promotes has literally destroyed people’s mental health with its ableist messaging. It’s up to Cinemaphile as a board to start a petition to Adult Swim to cancel this toxic show for good. And since everyone on Cinemaphile agrees and is on board, it shouldn’t be hard.

Masterbation is good for your mental health, nihilism is good for your mental health. As you can see, Smiling Friends caused a man to have an actual mental breakdown and Cinemaphile had to comfort him.

This is sad

This is sadistic

This is wrong

You cannot make someone be happy. This show promotes toxic positivity, and then precedes to mock better shows that HELP those of us with mental issues (Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman, Loki, and other shows that are about mental illness and the hopeless void of nihilism)

We must ban together, even if we have to protest, as a board that agrees with one statement, outside of the Adult Swim building.

Do it

Do it for this anon.

Smiling Friends is a disease.

Smiling Friends HURT AN INNOCENT MAN

Not a bot. This thread pissed me off when I saw how Zach’s hatred for the mentally ill was effecting mentally Ill people.

I remember when someone told me something along the lines of "I'm sorry that Zach's opinions made you feel that way", and it felt like the most manipulative thing I've been told thus far.

          I’m so sorry.

I've had a weird feeling since the inception of its pilot that it had a much more insidious goal in mind, but most people tend not to pick up on subtext.

Agreed. We need to start a petition.

It’s not subtext, it’s doublespeak or something approximating it. The point is to get his point to everyone who can actually pick up on it without providing any evidence that it was intentional, and it worked. He still denies it, but it worked.

            3. There's nothing toxic about a show revolving around people who want to make others smile.

Smiling Friends is a very poignant commentary on the social climate of the world and addresses many important aspects of modern ideology such as racism, freedom vs security, smegma and privacy.

There is clearly a fixation amongst schizophrenics and bipolars with this show, whether it be the history of the content creators, or the content itself. To be honest, Zach attracts these kinds of people just because of his history with Chris O'Neil and Newgrounds.

I was literally in the process of posting something similar to that. It seems odd doesn't it? I shouldn't talk shit being bipolar but it certainly seems on the rise.

I think it's also because more-and-more people are starting to become aware of their own mental health, yet outsiders who don't know any better like to act like they're in the right.

Maybe, but the fixation on Smiling Friends is still peculiar to me. It really seems like just a silly dumb cartoon. Fun but largely innocuous unto itself.

Covid and its consequences were a disaster for the American population
Quarantine meant more people online, more people online meant the spread of more ideas. At this point in time you can pretty much "give" yourself schizophrenia. Look at /x/ with tulpas, sure some of them were insane already but you can convince yourself of anything if you try hard enough.

Isolation and lockdowns certainly can exacerbate these kinds of illnesses. Whether they were pre existing or not is another convention that I can only hazard to guess. Speculation that probably would be fairly fruitless.

Schizophrenia doesn’t exist. Like, yeah, the term ‘schizophrenia’ is definitely tapping into a real phenomenon, because there are actual things people with it experience that can be relayed and connected without external coaching (schizophrenic brains give this feeling of being trapped in your own head and cut off access to certain psychosomatic skills like thought or speech when they’re stressed), but everything else is just pure pathologized shrink frick nonsense. Most people who have this stuff will tell you that the negative symptoms are a side effect of having to deal with common people and the general cruelty and bullshit of society, and that they’re completely functional in a vacuum. Look into that one bunny artist with borderline if you want to know more.

Op is gay who cares, so how long do think the shows success will last and when do you think it will come crashing down?

      >Op is gay
So too is a vast majority of SF's fandom, for better or worse.

I'll admit, that made me laugh. However, it's still important to look into subtext. (Regardless of whether or not you like someone.)

        >However, it's still important to look into subtext
It does have subtext but it's usually observations about how psychotic people like OP and twitter crybullies can be. The halloween episode for instance, at the end the partygoers let out their most violent, disgusting, animalistic parts of themselves and felt justified ripping apart the demon quite literally because they mistakenly thought the demon was being racist because of how he looked.
Yes it's still a demon, but they were ignorant to the truth and were seeking a valid reason to react violently.

To be completely honest the jokes about autism in OneyPlays and SleepyCabin make me weary of the people working on this show. I still like Smiling Friends but those jokes coming from people who presumably aren't autistic makes me weary. I've met people like that in the Newgrounds community and some of them really are just hateful people and have this trollish behavior to them. I can see some of it in the SleepyCabin people like Cory making a 15 minute animation on some Newgrounds VA he didn't like for basically not being funny. I know that was like 15 years ago but when you actually know people who repeatedly harass other Newgrounds users for the same petty reasons it makes the community a worse place. Spending time around people like that made me hate myself and paranoid about slipping up and becoming a target, especially seeing how much autistic people have been targeted on the internet. I really don't like the idea of them namedropping Chris Chan in the commentary or getting them as a VA. I know people will call me a tard or dismiss me on here but there has to be other people like me that feel this way.

if you feel like you need to be coddled or protected from "bad" people (those who do not share your values and expect you to be a stronger person), you probably shouldn't be out in public.

Being weary of people who make fun of others for aspects of their identity they can't change isn't wanting to be coddled. I guess you've never faced discrimination for your identity so you think everyone else is pretending to be offended when in reality you're just blind. You can still be funny without making others feel bad and Smiling Friends proves it because it doesn't reflect the behavior I described.
