The explanation I saw ages ago was that one of his family(brother? Cousin?) got a job with the government and when they were running the deep background check on the whole family they uncovered his inflation shit and it finally made the whole family aware of all his online antics from a objective viewpoint instead of from what Dobson's been telling them. Not sure if you guys are just messing around, but the main character was never supposed to be muslim, or a vampire. The main character was the lesbian. The muslim vampire was an idea for a side character that may or may not have appeared later, though probably he scrapped that altogether one over the backlash.
I think it's just more of a misunderstanding of the premise. Dobson stated that he wanted to do a story with a Muslim Vampire, and suggested that this faux webcomic/twitter post comic was said Muslim Vampire comic, and then I guess people thought that the main character was said Muslim Vampire?
I think his words were more like he was doing a supernatural ensemble starring a black lesbian, and that there would be “a gnome, a bearded lady, maybe a muslim vampire??” And people pounced on the muslim vampire thing because it was the most interesting idea he’d dropped, and because they wanted to dunk on him for probably not knowing that blood is haram.

The thing about Crystal is, despite advertising itself as the "FMA Brotherhood" for Sailor Moon, the animation and style is too stiff and sterile for fans of the original anime, and people getting into magical girl anime in the modern day have a lot more choices to choose from. I'm sure there's a few troony boomers who enjoy it, but I get the feeling that most enjoy the original anime more

Not sure if you guys are just messing around, but the main character was never supposed to be muslim, or a vampire. The main character was the lesbian. The muslim vampire was an idea for a side character that may or may not have appeared later, though probably he scrapped that altogether one over the backlash.

Dobson was actually a pretty good animator, he probably deleted all of it but he had his animation demo reel on youtube at one point, and I remember being surprised at it being quite competent compared to his usual art. He could of been a successful animator at a small studio if he didn't give up animation when disney stopped 2D. Although, now that I think of it, he would of been too stubborn and autistic to learn 2D rigging and such, so I guess there wasn't hope for his animation career after all.

Regardless of your feelings on it, there's a whole family tree of people who worked on that show that got their own shows, and people from their shows who got their own shows. It shaped the landscape of cartoons in recent years.
