That's the point of the movies I think. Vito was a great boss but also genuinely loved his family.
Michael was a great boss but a complete piece of shit. He ended up winning but lost everyone in the process. So much there is no one left who could continue the Corleone mob family after him. He never truly understood the real meaning of family.
Michael never wanted the job. It's like he has aspegers or something. He was ultimately far more successful than Vito, he was just consumed by the responsibility and some would say he went too far in a few places. He still loved his family, he just wasn't as open with his feelings.
>He was ultimately far more successful than Vito
Was he? He ended up completely alone. Two dead brothers, Tom fricked off and his wife and children completely estranged. He gave up his family to protect the "family" and ended up losing both.
>He never truly understood the real meaning of family.
And it kind of goes back to Sonny's point (and pop's), that fighting for strangers as part of a war is stupid. Blood is all that matters. However, Michael didn't believe that. He put whatever he was focused on at any given time above blood.
Yeah I agree. It's still hard to pinpoint exactly what he did wrong but the flashback perfectly shows just how lively Vito's household was compared to Michael sitting alone in the dark.
As a mob boss Michael was far more successful than Vito. Destroyed the other four families and eventually turned legit with most of Vegas in his pocket
Michael just has a colder personality than Vito. Like

said fittlingly: he was consumed by the responsibility. However Michael also had to adjust to business getting more cut throat, his father barely surviving an assassination attempt also showed that times were changing. He barely just got out of the war, his father almost gets killed and gets beaten by a corrupt cop. Also losing both Santino and Apollonia gave him a harder edge.
His actions led almost led to the death of Michael and his wife and just as easily could have killed his children. He betrayed his boss, his brother and his family.

He came in from outside so the values or traditions that might have mellowed others never took root in him. He basically treated the whole thing like a mission during war with no respect for the unspoken rules.
Vito was successful but he also had restraint and a code of ethics that kept everyone in his family happy with him.
Michael was more successful because he had zero lines he wouldn't cross to win and became consumed with winning more and more and treated the whole thing like war
>Why was he so evil?
He was a spoiled AmeriWOP who never struggled for anything. As we see in the flashbacks Sonny is the only one who really remembers when the Corleones were poor. Also I think in the book teenage Sonny starts his own gang because his dad didnt want him in the family business and he works his ass off to gain his father’s respect. Meanwhile Michael grew up only knowing the good life and thought he was better than his parents because he never saw the struggles they went through to get where they were.
Michael did literally nothing wrong. His "family" were a bunch of thieves and parasites, his enemies were the scum of the earth. Cleaning slate and leaving a legacy as a new man, a new house and a new dynastz is exactly what every man should aspire to.
>n-no you can't just bring organization and efficiency to organized crime! that's EVIL and against the code!
Piece of shit Black folk ITT, I bet you thought Lord Beckett was the bad guy in PotC too.
Vito's an assmuncha
Allegedly
Evil how?
>kills his own brother
Fredo was Judas
he was stupid he could have forgiven him
There's stupid and there's opening up the curtains in your brother's bedroom so that assassin's could see when you were back
fredo didnt do that
>it was my medication, I swear Mike. I have Dr.Rosario's note. Please, please forgive me.

Sonny wasn't his fault or responsibility, fredo betrayed him/the family, tom died of natural causes.
>Fredo
he killed the only close family member he had left because he betrayed the family. Pretty ironic if you ask me.
His actions led almost led to the death of Michael and his wife and just as easily could have killed his children. He betrayed his boss, his brother and his family.
>Two dead brothers
Fredo betrayed him and the family and Sonny was nothing to do with him, he couldn't control Sonny if he tried
>It's like he has aspegers or something
he was just psychotic as 90% of army guys
> He still loved his family
>kills his brother
Your point being what? Maybe you're too stupid for these movies.

The israelite trying to kill him pushed Michael over the edge. He probably would have gone legit years earlier if not for that.

>killing your brother is... LE BAD!!
Do protestants really...?

He was ex-US military and those are some of the most evil cucks in the world
