Wasn't it up against Endgame?
People wanted Hellboy 3 with Ron Pearlman and were pissed when they scrapped that for a reboot
muh pearlman
Neil Marshall was a poor choice because he's never done fantasy and he's honestly pretty overrated anyway. Even his "good" movies are mediocre. Dog Soldiers defense force in 3... 2... 1...
I love most of Neil's movies but there was really just no saving it even before it began shooting.
>everyone wanting hellboy 3 with Ron
>Mignola going out of his way to spite del tacos hellboy movies
>Mignola having such control over the movie that it's a cluster frick of late storylines merged together
>David Harbour deciding now was the time to go full moron as he suddenly thought he was a big time actor
What’s wrong with Dog Soldiers?
It's just dull, but still somehow the peak of Marshall's career and the most creative thing he ever did.
The Descent sucked though.
Making the Witch Queen plot into a movie was a mistake they should have done something low stakes and spooky.
>Teratophibic
What?
The writers thinking shit like that being a good idea is why it failed.
Fear of monsters.
I don't know what the frick the guy is trying to insinuate by that.
>Why was Hellboy 2019 such a failure?
Probably because it just wasn't very good.
There was a Hellboy 2019?
It made the classic Hollywood mistake of thinking every comic book property must be a comic book movie. Should've been lower budget and more horror focused. Humor was awful and unbefitting for the character. Then you have the typical shit like race swapping and bad cgi.
>bad cgi.
Someone post the Ian McShane thing
>movie feels like three different ones mashed together like Frankenstein's monster
>awful script
>literally whos agents
Yea I wonder why it flopped
It tried to do too much in one movie, making it feel rushed and chaotic and messy. It was too much to throw in when we were getting introduced to this version of the cast for the first time.
On top of that, it just didn't have the same charm as Del Toro's Hellbody movies did.
It all just felt hollow as a result.
- tried to make a Marvel tier horror/superhero movie but with Deadpool's script, and without the budget
- cramped to the whole The Storm and the Fury series into a single movie. too much material
- irregular special effects quality, they get shittier as the movie advances. it shows that some sequences were finished while others weren't. the whole baba yaga scene was pretty good tho
-the whole casting.
my personal complaints
-wanting the woke crowd too by raceswapping Alice Monaghan and turning her into a qween girlboss with psychic powers. there was some shit about Daimyo's original cast not being Asian too
- the demon designs were shit, they're generic as hell and more edgy than mystic. should have gone with the demons from the comics instead of trying to be so stupidly metal and gory. i know there is concept art for demons similar to the comic, with animals heads and human bodies
- they fricked up Gruagach's characterization by turning him into celtic metal Bebop with basically no script beyond "im a fricking pig"
in short it's either because hollywood folks do not understand shit about comics or they just didn't give a true frick about it and just wanted to probe the market to see if a horror superhero movie could work
>the demon designs were shit, they're generic as hell
Par for the course for Neil Marshall then.
>Tried to use the Marvel formula for a supernatural book
Also
>First movie is an adaptation of one of the closing story arcs.
Imagine if they had done Endgame 5 movies earlier and as one movie not two. They fricked it up so bad. Should have done Hellboy in Mexico instead and crammed the wrestler and marriage stories together.
