The police did, but there's not much they can do about a bunch of guys essentially catfishing a dude and then just having a conversation with him. The thing that works in the nonce hunters favor though is that the predator assumes its a Chris Hansen type deal, and that there are police around the corner to arrest them, so they stand and talk to avoid the inevitable until they realize the nonce hunters were just full of hot air, and they can't actually touch the predator because the police don't want to promote vigilantism by associating with them.
