Why was she naked? I get that she was proud to be a mutant but what does that have to do with not wearing clothes?

because Hollywood was still trying to appeal to teenage boys at that time

Yes, she was. I think they had this idea that being naked was her way of saying she was proud and didn't want to hide being a mutant. And I'm all for fully naked female action characters that act otherwise normally and semi-unaware.

If she wears a dress, when she transforms into someone else she'll be someone else in a dress. She HAS to be naked.

It's like, if your power is to turn invisible but your wearing a suit and tie and you turn invisible people will just see a floating suit and tie.

    Also boobies.

She can create clothing using her powers, so if she turns into someone she'd turn into them wearing her clothes over the fake clothes, or if she turns into them naked she'll be wearing what she was previously.

Why doesn’t she just create clothes for herself then?

That's the point: in universe, when in her "default" form, she is trying to show her pride in being a mutant by not covering up. Plus, as mentioned earlier, it's hot so why complaint?

This is the only actual answer. But we never see her have a limit to how much she can transform.

You know how black women feel like they get "diz krimi ated fo' dey hurr"? So they embrace their hair by making it as obnoxious as possible?

Mystique displays her weird blue skin as a display of pride of who she is.

What’s that have to do with not wearing clothes. You can still see peoples skin when they wear clothes.

This is the closest we'll ever get to a casually naked, only one naked, and actually fully naked female character in a mainstream movie, isn't it?

It will probably swing back to something like that in the future. Women are, at once, being hypersexualized & desexualized, purely by normalcy, all at once. In the old days it was considered 'immodest' whereas now it's 'objectification'. The brief period 68-89 really wasn't what you'd imagine. By '90 boomers had aged in to complacency or 'sensitive pony tail coffee shop guy' mode, both with shrewish/academic women harping on them incessantly. It started ramping back up around '98 as Millenials started getting horny and HipHop entered the mainstream but was DOA as soon as older women could get online via their phone.
That being said, Not Another Teen Movie and Return of the Living Dead are great for that.shes no looker, but Mean Streets has a good scene

I'd agree with you normally, but only homosexuals disagree that this is the rare case of the movie "costume" being a vast improvement

I like how when she lost her mutant DNA and became human, Magneto turned his back on her and left her behind (X-Men Last Stand).

This was oddly predictive of how late stage victim-groups treat anyone in their own group that they deem as having made even one mistake or change of heart. For instance, trannies seethe at detransitioners. Anyone in the LGBT groups turn on anyone that has the slightest difference of opinion on one subtlety. Blacks despise and resent any of their group that is successful and displays the smallest hint of acting "white." I'm sure the are examples going the other way too, and sorry for getting /misc/, but that scene, and the way he just abandons her just always bothered me. They probably put it in there as an "oops, we made the villain make too much sense and need to make him kick a puppy) move.

It always feels to me that nerds are supposed to think she's a fricking bombshell and have to adore her, when she's just some blonde chick.
It's like that Battlestar Galactica blonde, every single gig she's gotten after the show it's like a meme that she's supposed be beautiful and every guy lusts for her even though she's a 50 year old hag

She has an absolutely kino costume too, surprised J-Law didn't insist on one since that would save on makeup time.
