Ask Brian Azarello, who introduced the modern interpretation of the character.

Bendis also ruined him by taking away his personality and shacking him up with a boring white woman

A Harlem ex-con is too threatening for the whitoids that are still the bulk of their audience.

That also got a white woman pregnant.
He would never get good sales.

Are you actually mad that white readers aren’t interested in a black power fantasy?

He was already forced into us but his pushed happened in the early/late 00s so social media didn't exist as we know it today that's why it feels as his push didn't happen

This. Also he's an original black character not a race baiting shit smeared replacement of a successful white one.

    He wasn't.

He's a character very much of his time. To his core luke cage is a blackploitation character, he's very 70s. it's why his partner is a white kang fu master as iron fist was created to bank of the 70s kung fu movies.
They keep trying to update Cage
instead of playing into the fact that he's a blackploitationn character like shaft.
That's why Cage from 2016 is his best run in decades.

Wasn't he big in the 2000s? Like on every Avengers team and in the video games big?

That's because he was bendis's pet character.

Who was he popular with? Because Milestone made fun of him with a parody character that then then killed off.

Real Answer- he had a TV show which complicates adding him to the MCU.

Cuz like most black characters in the past 10 or so years, they've been stripping him of all personality and charisma because self-hating whites don't wanna have it come off as a racist depiction.
He's basically a cardboard standee at this point, and worse, married to a white women, while some would say "good for him, takin a white mans b***h", the other mental defectives of twitter would write off as him turning his back on his people and that he should be with a strong 400lb diabetes ridden black woman.
And lets not forget the whole bullet proof street homie aspect either, too on the nose.

As long as Luke Cage isn't written like Icon (pre-Milestone reboot), no sane person would accuse him of turning his back on his people.

There is a lot more to turning your back on your people than marrying a white woman.

        >As long as Luke Cage isn't written like Icon (pre-Milestone reboot), no sane person would accuse him of turning his back on his people.
Luke Cage (or rather the character created to parody him, Buck Wild) literally *was* Icon. He went from being a jive talking moron to taking Icon's place after Augustus left earth, when he started reading malcom x books, became insufferable, and died.
I'm not entirely sure people that liked Pre reboot Icon and Rocket would be fans of Luke Cage if considering the book's treatment of his archetype.

Cinemaphile would have problems with any black character being the black face of Marvel or DC.

He got a total dogshit show on Netflix, what makes you think he wasn't pushed?

He's just too straightforward with a low budget powerset, and the "blacker than black" Shaft stuff can't really be leaned into. He can be replaced by basically any other minority hero for current MCU's purposes.

Frick you. That show was based.

He disproves the diversity narrative, so he was shelved in place of more shitty OC race swaps to pretend black characters are something new
