Because despite having gainax at their peak in charge of animation NGE is still entry level trash.
Because there are only so many anime with high production values like Evangelion. You eventually run out of stuff of that caliber and you're going to have to go down the list of gradually less and less visually stunning shows. Zeta still has good art direction and an interesting story.

Those all look fairly consistent (at least within a single work, like no shit the Rebuilds don't follow the same settei as the TV series), with the differences being pretty subtle. It's not like a Dragonar situation where the animators just decided the settei was for gays and they just did what they felt like

Eva looks mostly consistent a lot of the time but there’s a couple of episodes that stick out like a sore thumb. A Transfer, Hedgehog’s Dilemma, Rei II, MAGMADIVER, The Day Tokyo-3 Stood Still and Lilputcian Hitcher all look incredibly off. At least with the other directors, they kept Sakamoto’s style but on those episodes in particular it’s like they’re working off a completely different settei. The Shigeta episodes look like a shoujo in comparison
