So since we know she practically divorced Frank and departed for unknown departs maybe this could happen . You could literally just say she was influenced by magic to justify her actions towards Peter. Bruh a wizard literally did everything. The "whole chains that bind her" was literally just an escape clause that Lowe and Wells wrote in. The kids were the chains that bind her both to Rabin and Paul and now the chains are gone.

Well you're working from the assumption wells and lowe care about Paul and MJ but they never did. Their relationship doesn't have enough dept to even be shallow, the only thing keeping MJ to him was the kids.

And naturally She can't rely on Paul on emotional support either because whatever affection was between them is gone with the kids for all sense and purposes dead and MJ can't help but blame Paul for it, he effectively proved himself to be impotent against his dad and there is that dawning realization that she's is essentially free from the binds of motherhood and that feeling of relief is making her realize she never wanted to be a parent so now she feels resentful over everything she threw away in a year.
