      What is this from?

What even is the story on why this exists?

It's from a sci fi flick called Maximum Overdrive. A mysterious affliction thanks to a passing comet* affects machines everywhere, and if they're sufficiently advanced they come to life and become hostile to humans. The Green Goblin mask is the face of the "main villain" of the movie, a semi trailer truck loaded with toys which menaces a group of people taking shelter in a gas station. It's not exactly high concept or high butdget but it is actually pretty fun and entertaining.

My favorite part of maximum overdrive was that bit where the baseball kid gets his head crushed by a steamroller

Given that it going to have a Mad Max vibe a Green Goblin truck would be great. You don't even have to call it out. Just having it in the background would be great.

It was a toys r us type delivery truck and I assume Green Goblin was just like a commercial IP they were using as an eye grab. Kids love spider-man and green goblin. Also Maximum Overdrive is such a great fricking movie.

No. It was a Stephen King movie he directed. He was high on coke, he doesn't remember any of it.

They licensed out a Green Goblin head to put on the main villain truck.

The behind the scenes is almost just as fascinating.

                >It would be the directorial debut of the writer Stephen King, who had a three-picture deal with De Laurentiis. In a 2002 interview with Tony Magistrale for the book Hollywood's Stephen King, first-time director King stated that he was "coked out of [his] mind all through its production, and... really didn't know what [he] was doing". On-set translator Roberto Croci didn't remember King's cocaine use, but recalls him drinking from early in the morning until late at night. "I never saw. I didn't. But I did know that he was drunk. That 6 o'clock in the morning we have a roll call and he's drinking beers. And by 8:30, he's on his 10th beer."[

                >While shooting the scene when a lawnmower comes alive in a residential neighborhood, Nannuzzi was struck in the right eye, his "shooting eye," by a large splinter of wood that had become lodged in the blade. According to camera assistant Silvia Giulietti, "We were shooting a scene where a lawnmower—the machine that cut the grass—was following a boy to kill him. And we put the camera on the ground with piece of wood beneath. To wedge, okay? I remember that Armando Nanuzzi [sic] ask to Stephen King, "Can we take out the blades?" But Stephen King say, "no, no, I like to see them." Armando say, "But we don't see them in the shot." But Stephen King say, "No. No. Better that you let it."[9] The special effects department had also suggested removing the blade for safety reasons, but King continued to insist that it remain, so the scene could appear more life-like. Nannuzzi was helicoptered from set and then flown to a hospital in Raleigh where he eventually lost his eye. Production was halted for a brief period, but Nannuzzi returned to finish the film.[9] After the film was released, Nannuzzi sued King, De Laurentiis Productions, and sixteen others involved with the film for $18 million. The suit was filed in New York, as King and many of the other defendants often did business in that state. The case was later settled.[11] Nannuzzi continued to work on films after his accident, but believed he would never again be considered for big-budget projects, as producers wouldn't want a cameraman with no depth perception.[9] He returned to Italy, where he worked until his retirement in 1998. He died on May 14, 2001.[12]

For obvious reasons it's not a marvel film.

However they did directly shout this is based on marvel comic green goblin.

Currently there are three heads. The OG was blown up but a die hard fan bought what remains and fully restored it doing tours with the head.

A back up head made for the movie is currently just rotting away on the owner property who refuses to sell it.

And the third is a replica truck same year and model with a custom replica of the Green Goblin head. This truck is also doing tours around the country.

My guess is Disney wouldn't pay the money for it, or would want to blow it up.

Ironically the one that's been left out and aged would be perfect look for the Deadpool movie. If the owner truly doesn't care, a movie return would be the best way for this guy to go out.

That movie is the hottest sweatiest feeling movie I’ve ever seen. I don’t know how to explain it. Maybe because I grew up near where it was filmed so I know how hot those summers can get.

Why didn't any cars in Maximum Overdrive come to life and start murdering? It would've been a nightmare if they did.

I thought they did? Also I assume budget reasons is why you didn’t see more scenes of machines coming to life.

The only time you see cars acting up on their own were some cars in a junk yard flashing their lights. There was also a pizza delivery car that crashed, but who knows how that happened.

They did. Literally all automobiles and any kind of mechanical device started killing anyone they could.

I guess the car Lisa Simpson and her husband were driving was immune to the alien comet radiation.

'Trucks' was the title of the original story. It was also almost directly plagiarized by Alan Moore in a 2000 AD Future Shock short.
