That's just the thing though. They ARE integrated into the game. That's exactly why the DLC is useless. You can get all the DLC shit for free in abundance just by playing the game normally. Aside from the soundtrack DLC, they're all just items you can find ingame or even buy from ingame shops.

Similarly that they wouldn't be dumb enough to have those items for sale and still allow players to VERY EASILY mod the game so you can get them more frequently or for free, like with Ferrystones.

It means it's an always online game with no custom servers where they try to keep players engaged for years using piecemeal content releases and flashy cosmetics you have to earn through daily engagement.
